  1. One suggestion would be to put only a very few nails in the skin of the doors until you have them hung on the car and adjusted right, then go back and put all the nails in. We tried to tell this to a guy in our Model A Ford Cub, But he didn't listen and then ended up super frustrated and brought the car to us to adjust the doors and paid us to go back and pull all the nails out so we could tweak the doors to fit. Another big learning lesson is to let the metal trim pieces determine the opening width for the doors, not the wood- The sill board metal cap pieces and the roof rail metal trim pieces. Tweaking the door to fit installing nails after fitting Good diagram to learn the names of the wood pieces.
  2. Wow! I can relate to the project you are doing. Very nice looking woodwork. My brother and I specialize in make and installing vintage auto wood. I am currently doing my 1930 Ford 2 window 4 door(blind back). I am making all the 65 pieces of wood and saving a ton of money( $6,500 retail) I am amazed at how similar the wood looks to the Ford, in fact your car looks like it has even more wood than mine. Ford had no wood in the cowl area except the header over windshield. The piece over the rear wheel wells look so similar, even the metal L bracket that supports it. even the kits you buy for the Fords Do Not fit that good and many modifications need to be made to get things to line up and work properly. Lining up the 4 doors is probably the hardest part of all. That is what gets us most of our work. I was really surprised how much wood my Buick coupe has, thankfully looks to be in really good shape. Will be following your progress, Thanks for sharing! That's my brother in the pictures
  3. I have the dash knob advance system. I think my distributor is working pretty good, had the car out running good on Thursday. What is weird is I found out I need to pull my chock on about 1/4 of the way or the car will not accelerate hardly at all, But when I add the chock it runs really good. I just rebuilt the carb too. I had it up to 60 MPH and she was humming nice! So I think all the advance stuff is working good or it probably would not have ran that good.
  4. I have a 1934(very late 34) engine in my 1932 56S. It has a single point vacuum advance distributor on it, I was wondering what year Buick started using this kind of distributor, I know it was after 1932. Also can you give me advice to test and see if it is working properly( the advance part)? Thanks for your help!
  5. I just purchased this 1932 56S and see the engine number doe not match the frame number. I was wondering if you can tell size of engine by the number. Also engine isn't running very well, think it might be carb. Was thinking of converting to down draft carb ??? I see I have vacuum advance on the distributor, is that original? Thanks for your input in advance! Brian
  6. SOLD!! I have purchased the car from my friend. Thanks everyone for looking! Brian
  7. Well I am the owner of this fine old Buick now! Can any help me identify the engine? number is 2922039 I also need help getting it to run better, I believe it is a carb problem any advice would be appreciated Thanks , Brian
  8. I am helping a lady friend of mine to try and sell her late husband's car. He purchased the car in 1974 and finished restoring it in 1979. So the paint is at least 36 years old. It is a cream yellow color with root beer brown metallic fenders. All the chrome and stainless are in really good shape. It runs nice and stops good. No oil leaks and just a tiny leak from water pump packing nut. I haven't even tried tightening it yet. The body is in super shape, looking underneath you see no sign of damage repair. The worst spot on the car is a 3/4" crack in the lip of rear passenger fender. speedometer says 68,000. Please post any questions and I will try to answer. She wants $18,000 for the car. Has Wisconsin title, but car is in Mesa,Arizona.
  9. Hello Everyone, I am new here and want to introduce myself. My name is Brian Giancola and I recently took in my dear friends Buick after her husband graduated on to Heaven. She had her son bring the car out to AZ from Wisconsin. Now it is in my garage and I am trying to figure out what the car is worth to see if I can afford to buy it without taking advantage of her. Please help me out to learn a little more about the car and place a value on it. I currently have a 1930 Ford and am restoring it. The Buick is running and drivable but the paint is from 1979 and is showing its age. It needs work on hood strip and latches and a few other little things. It seems to drive nice and has nice upholstry. All the chrome and SS is nice condition. I haven't found anything missing or that does not work, yet. My 6 yr. old son loves it and said we should buy it! My wife doesn't want me to have it, so it will be posted on here after I figure out a good asking price. Thanks in advance for all your input. Attached Thumbnails Sorry about photos of interior side ways, I turn them before posting but they reverted back sideways.
  10. Here is a picture of my parents on their wedding day with their 56 Buick July 12, 1957
