  10. Something about the coupe styling that really "completes" the overall unique look and character. Not unlike so many vehicles where the convertible versions were a design compromise.
  11. Thanks Bushwack, good advice. At this point I've settled on a Reatta coupe and will relegate my convertible urges to an Allante. Do I hear UNLOVED?!

  14. Hello fellow members. I'm new to the Reatta scene and would like to purchase a top-notch example. Which years are considered the best in terms of refinements, options and collectibility? Also, what mechanical issues should I be aware of? Thanks in advance!

  16. 1932 Rolls Royce Phantom II Continental Mulliner Sports Saloon Highly sought after short-chassis specification. Full history from new. Stunning proportions and ready for immediate touring. Featured on p. 156 of Raymond Gentile's landmark publication, The Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental. 80MS was delivered new by London's Jack Barlcay to Ernest Mortimer Thomas Esq on November 24, 1932. It is a remarkably preserved and completely original example wearing striking close-coupled saloon coachwork by H.J. Mulliner, body #3989 and bearing UK registration YY7232. Thomas required that his new PII provide "chiefly fast touring" and indeed that challenge was met with this aristocratic sports saloon. (Of note, Ernest's wife Jill was a highly skilled racing driver, competitively piloting Bugattis and Bentleys, breaking the 500-mile record and becoming the first woman to lap Brooklands at an average speed of 120 MPH!). Thomas parted with the 80MS on September 30, 1938 whereupon it was purchased by Angus Cuddon-Fletcher of London on March 13, 1939. Fletcher, also a driver of some renown, accorded a fourth place position at the 1938 Whitsun Meeting in his MG Magnette behind a very experienced Prince Bira and his matchless ERA. Subsequent owners of 80MS as follows: John Lewis Esq of Southwick, September 18, 1946,Charles H. Stegmery of Belleville IL, 1962,Arthur M Young II of Philadelphia PA, 1962,Bill Borden of Bryn Mawr PA, 1989,Present owner as of 2003.While under Borden's care (1989-2003), the engine was rebuilt by John Dennison of West Chester, PA, a respected marque specialist. Additional work retained by Borden included new wiring, a modern turn signal system including twin filament parking lights and wheel re spoking by Dayton Wheel Company. In the summer of 1996, Lyle Reider of British Marque Auto of Bainbridge, PA carried out a full bare-metal repaint in Claret with black fenders, replaced any faulty roof wood, repaired and resealed the fuel tank and installed a new Everflex top. Re plating and fresh new upholstery and carpets in the correct pattern and materials rounded out the considerable restoration. The current enthusiast owner--a regarded marque enthusiast himself--installed a fresh new cylinder head sourced from Ristes, totaling $15,000, a new clutch and stainless exhaust. A recent leak-down test confirms that the engine is as good as a new modern motor. What's more, 80MS has journeyed thousands of reliable miles, all originating from Kansas: Philadelphia, the RROC Texas Tour, the RROC Chicago meet and a CCCA tour also in Kansas. One look at the grandeur of this highly sought after Phantom II specification is enough to make the heart run apace with images of what it may have been like to have utter command of British and Continental roadways so long ago. With just 70,000 pampered miles, today, this magnificently proportioned and lovingly maintained Rolls Royce is ready for immediate enjoyment, is an assured concours entrant worldwide and an essential addition to any patron of elegance and power. Located in Wichita and priced at $295,000.
