Does the Plymouth knobs have the outer trim rings? If you have any of the originals, you may be able to resin cast them. I had a set made for my '36 Dodge by D&D Automobilia years ago when the original owner had it. I don't know if they would make you any now! Because the Dodge knobs are cast to the shafts it was a bit tricky getting everything right and a couple were redesigned to screw on.
They do have a stainless ring around them. You can see in this picture, my chipotle knob is a white color while the rest are marbled. Not the greatest pic, but you get the idea.

Bit of a pity party here, I recently found an ad for a batch of P2 knobs in the marbled brown color that I need. After exchanging a few emails the gentlemen informed me that someone else has sent him a check. So I missed out 😭. Due to my usually cautious nature, I really wanted pics first to be sure we were on the same page. He had to get someone to help with that and in that time someone else bought them sight unseen.
Not the buyers fault at all, purely mine, but I'm kicking myself over this one as you NEVER see the marbled knobs come up! So if you're the individual that bought than and perhaps do not need them all, please contact me!? I could really use at least the choke knob, perhaps a few others.
Or if anyone has a line on some I would appreciate it. I've tried several of the major salvage yards and watch Hemmings Motor news and Plymouth bulletin regularly as well as eBay.
Thanks!

Yup, as mentioned you have to hammer it into the channel over the fabric. You should have wood spars covered with chicken wire as a frame. I do not recall where we got the rubber from, but I do recall that NONE of the suppliers matched the original exactly. The repros work fine though. It was a pain to install though. Took us better part of the weekend and I don't think I could pick up a pencil for a week! Hammer trick worked on in a few areas, but we had to work it in by have a little at a time. I also don't recall where we got the fabric, dad picked it up for me because he got a deal. Ended up with grey, I'd prefer black. But it works.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I didn't realize that the coupe windshields and garnish mouldings were different from the sedans Just checked in the parts list and there it was. It would have been so easy to assume that all the '36 Dodge bodies were the same. Continuing education for the old guy.
Possible help for anyone looking for '36 Dodge parts - I found two ads - one in the AACA magazine and one in the Dodge Brothers monthly publication
1.AACA - NOS and used parts for 1936 Dodge, also 1935-42 Dodge Plymouth and De Soto parts. NOS fenders, hoods, wheels, hubs and most all parts on the 1936 Dodge coupe and sedan. Rebuilt items and small pieces as well as engine parts and pieces. (912) 663 5307 (Georgia)
2. DB Magazine - 1936 DB Parts - Too many to list. Joe (773) 586 4049 or (715) 445 2573.
I'm in the process of getting in contact with these folks myself. It looks as if they could help a lot of us.

I may have to check with them as well. Any experience with them yet? I'm still looking for some knobs and whatnot for the interior, and of course the elusive gas pedal!

mold star 30 for the mold and I ended up with reoflex 60 for the final product.

Here is the column seal process. Smooth-On is the product.
Replacing obsolete parts

I'll double check when I get home. I can't remember right now. I do remember I had to add brown and white pigment for the color and the plastic model needed to be scuffed up a bit, then sealed with clear. If you don't scuff it the river will come out shiny and if you don't seal the model the rubber won't cure (some interaction with the primer I used on the model and the liquid rubber).
I definitely need a new firewall pad and kick panels.

I had been contemplating casting a new pedal as I haven't been able to find one either. I have a new pedal, although the front face has some defects, that would make a good pattern but I'm not sure how to cast the core in it. The sockets for the rod and balls would have to be repositioned to fit. Going to have to cast the steering column rubber seal at the firewall since no one makes the correct one. Still keeping a lookout for the pedals.
I had to cast that as well. Let me know if you go that route. I made a mold with a 3d printer and poured the rubber. I don't see a way to do the pedal though.

I'm happy with the repro gas pedal I got from the Airflow Club of America. Dimensions as I set out above. The price is right and it fits properly. Cheaper than trying to create one from scratch. $25.00 + shipping.
Problem is that one does not match the pattern for ours. I still don't know how to account for that.

What had everyone decided to do on this? I'm still without a pedal. My core and back are useable, so I may hack up one of the slip on covers to get something useable so I can drive. But I'd love to see if anyone else found a solution.

Randomly got a price sheet in the mail for Pat Walsh restorations and they claim to have a 36 Plymouth accelerator pedal.
Unfortunately a quick search leaves me less than enthusiastic about dealing with them.

Out on a limb here, but isn't that mounting plate inside the bucket a separate piece? Might be able to swap some parts and make it work? Just a thought.
-
Yup, that to one is definitely a P2. The mounting and stanchion are different, but I believe the rest of the bucket is the same, including the way the headlight mounts into it. I agree that tires have been converted to sealed beam. Looks like your missing the springs that hold the riteway lenses in. I don't believe they would be used with a sealed beam conversion. I've never done it, so I could be wrong on that. Just my guess.
-
Well that's disappointing. At this point I don't believe I've found a pedal in Black or brown. I'm going to have to run my old one which is down to the Steele core on front.
-
That's certainly possible. Dad doesn't remember Grandpa changing it, and neither does Grandpa, but then Grandpa didn't remember a lot these days. He got the car on the early 60's, so still plenty of unknown history with this car.
Is be interested to see what you have as @keiser31 claims his looked like mine. Maybe there were different versions available? I've been wandering how I'll replace that type of stuff when the time comes. Just another mystery with these cars I guess.
-
Here's what's in the P2 @jpage, not sure that helps you any as what you describe isn't making sense compared to what I have. But then I haven't tried to take it off yet either.
-
Well I learned something today. I had no idea that's what that we called or what it was for. Did you get replacement pieces? Or reassembling the original? I might be able to get pictures of mine for you if yours is the same as the Plymouth (it's a few hours away from me, but Dad might be able to get a picture). I'm not sure what condition it's in though, I haven't spent much effort of the back yet.
-
I don't think it's the same as the P2 then. Notice how my original, the throttle button is all the way at the top.
-
@jpage curious to hear your thoughts on this one. Dies it look like it will fit your D2? Perhaps we need different party numbers for the P2 and D2 after, or was 797919 wrong for both?
-
Well that's interesting. Does it have the number stamped on it somewhere? If that's 797919, it certainly does not match mine and would not fit the P2. The top one may, but not sure there is any angle on it. How is it that the listed part number is clearly different than the original?

I just had a look in my Desoto book and a 797919 is for 1936 S1 Desoto Sed another book says 36 Plym P3 and 36 Dodge.
745978 (brown) is for Desoto S3 Canadian built and S5.
745979 Desoto S3 Limo, 37-38 Ply, Dodge & Chrys.
Let me know which one you are after, I may have a 797919 but it is black.

While you are looking, I need a gas pedal for a 1936 Dodge sedan orig. part no.495993 superceded by 797919. I need an original in any color. Repros and later originals are marked with no. 745978 or 745979 and said to fit '35-'38 but they don't. Thanks Jim
One for me to please!
37 Plymouth - Grommet for Steering Column
in Plymouth
Posted
This may sound complicated, but there is a solution. I could not find the column grommet for my 36 either. I ended up using 3d software to create it digitally, then printed it with 3d printer. Using that plastic model I mold a silicon mold and then was able to cast a new part to fit. I going someone with a 3d printed that also helped with the software, so that's a big part of it. But it is doable.
