  1. I have had 2 Cadillac 75s and neither one had anything under the hood. That’s why I’m asking about it. They were just metal and what looked like body undercoating on the inside of the hood. But I’m sure that’s not what I should be using.
  2. I am in the process of repainting my 1952 Cadillac and I am at the point where I need to paint the engine bay. For the inside of the hood do I need to use some sort of insulation? Is there a spray insulation that should be used? Can I skip insulation? What are the thoughts on insulating the hood?
  3. I wouldn’t say the paint scheme ALWAYS looks bad. It’s unique for sure. Without the definite paint stop after the trim it looks odd but I’ve seen much worse ideas. What I do find concerning is that it claims the original engine is in it and one of the pictures shows the Cadillac blue engine. However another picture of it shows an engine in Chevy small block orange..
  4. Is the wind lace on the driver’s door falling off the frame on the B pillar? And are we at all concerned that there is no picture of the engine bay or trunk? Or the underside? As much as I love our American flag it concerns me that someone would put a giant sticker on a door’s paint. My friend did that to cover a nasty dent.
  5. I’m not calling the information you gave misguided. I’m saying bringing it up to a crowd that are already feeling attacked was misguided. I thought the information was good because any research that proves fact is important. Unfortunately in todays society we are supposed to “believe the science” until it isn’t what we want to hear. So no matter how much fact and research we provide to say we aren’t the cause of all of life’s issues they will still say that we are. You and I have argued in the past about things but I didn’t have an issue with you saying that we aren’t the problem. The main message of my post was lost. If this is going to be used to pit members against members then it may not be worth the argument, at least here.
  6. Peter, it was a nice but misguided attempt to present this material. We all know electric vehicles have become a political agenda because our politician, including the President of the United States has decided to force them by 20__.. That makes them political. This topic has been deleted many times due to the aggressive approach of responses and personal attacks brought up by it. Unfortunately they did not allow the consumer to decide if they want electric vehicles, they are attempting to force them upon us. We have seen in this very thread that the debate is as sensitive as the abortion topic. So I think it would be in the best interest of this forum that you do what you do when other threads get aggressive and remove it.
  7. I find it funny how some cars are the holy grail on here and others are garbage regardless of condition. For $2500 any car with all its fenders and an engine is worth it in today’s world. There is a Hudson a guy on here is going to buy at around $13000 for the similar condition and everyone says he would be crazy not to buy it. Help me understand this bizarre logic.. please..
  8. 28 months! That’s far too long. There are plenty of things I can do but I’m losing steam when I have seen no progress updates, I haven’t been told that they are even assembling it. And every time I hear from him they have been “closed.” And then he has the nerve to tell me he gave me a discount for waiting. It it’s still almost $9k. And to add insult to injury a friend of mine had an engine rebuilt by them too. He gave it to them last year and the engine is already back in the car. It’s hard to keep your chin up when you can’t move the thing or hear it run. How does one get the motivation. To spend thousands of dollars on a lawn ornament? I guess it’s just finally hitting me that I made a mistake with using this guy and he certainly isn’t getting my ‘51 Dodge engine that I want to rebuild..
  9. This engine situation has caused me to completely lose motivation. The engine was supposed to be done by August 1st. The engine rebuilder didn’t get back to me and I finally got in touch with him two days ago. He said to me they were closed for four weeks and just started running again. I’m so sick of his excuses. I told him he has until 9/16 and I’m coming to get the engine whether it’s finished or not. He told me I can’t. If it’s not finished he isn’t releasing it. So now he has my engine held hostage. I’m so disgusted I’m tempted to just sell the car and let some fool put an LS engine in it and hot rod the damned thing…
  10. Took some time but I was able to piece together what was missing on the fender. I have to clean it up and grind the welds but I’m pleased with the look and I’m pleased with how it fits on the car.
  11. Looking at the seller’s page he has several listings, including this car at least 3 times. In one of them that is listed at $5,500 it shows it running. Is that a recent video? To me it sounds like it needs some tuning up.
  12. I would love to hear the real history of this car. The engine was removed due to an oil leak. It’s a 1953 engine so I am assuming the ‘52 engine had a bad cam shaft like they were known for. The metal under the grill is crumpled. This fender was clearly damaged and repaired. The whole car was repainted in a similar to original color. The front driver’s fender doesn’t have undercoating yet every other panel does. So I’m assuming it was in a nasty accident and the repairs I’m finding were done to quickly get the car back on the road. But I don’t know very much about the car.
  13. I’m going to argue that if you like the car then look at it and go for it if you feel comfortable. With reasonable electrical wiring skills you can rewire that entire car yourself. There is pretty much nothing on those vehicles that you can’t do yourself. I have a 1951 Dodge that looks identical and it wasn’t running when I bought it. I had no knowledge of how to get it running; I took the head off and replaced a valve and it ran after 40 years. I am rewiring the car now, one wire at a time and enjoying the experience. These are good cars if you are limited on funds. I love the people on this site and I value their input but I have asked on a couple of occasions on whether or not to move on a vehicle and the answers are always the same, “find one that is in better condition.” Keep in mind, none of us are experts. There is no such thing in this hobby, we are merely people who enjoy cars with an experience with them. I find these cars to be strong tanks and with a little fine tuning you can go through Hell itself with it. Check under the driver’s floor for rot on the edges of the cab near the frame. When the floor pan rots the side wall under the pan also rots. With that being said, I agree that I don’t love the wiring job he is doing and having him finish it just for you to remove it and rewire it seems excessive to me. Even though it says firm perhaps since you have had the conversation with him about wiring you can make a compromise to lower the price a couple hundred dollars and take it as is.
  14. I attached the light to the fender. It is just about ready to go back on once I clean and paint the engine bay.
  15. The area I sanded was covered in body filler, some over 1/8” thick. It was hiding a long dented area. Does the brass repair indicate anything, such as an age or style of repair?
  16. This was a Pennsylvania car. It was resprayed after some body damage. And then this repair did a lot of damage itself
  17. Took some time but every bolt came out beautifully. I was pleasantly surprised. Say what you want about how I tackle body work, but I would never do this.. (lower left side)
