Chandler would be a great car to have a registry. You would be building a support team that would help keep them on the road. I'll send you the PM I sent to TAKerry I was asked do you have a dedicated web site that just includes the registry, or is it linked through somewhere else? www.gardnermotorcars.com The registry page is a form for new members to fill in. It worked great for years but now requires their email to be set up a certain way. However many of the new members just used my email address. My rules are simple I need their permission to list their address and/or their phone number. I will list their email, but this is never listed on the internet. In the past I've had people contact me and ask do you know of a car my dad once had? Often I do know where it is today and I will contact the current owner by email and he can choose to contact the prior owner. (they always do) New members want their privacy protected and this allows for that . You may have better ideas, so this is just something to think about.

I was given a registry of Gardner cars with about 40 entries. I created a web site and a page where you could list your own Gardner. Today I have 152 cars on the registry, I do not publish it on the web but it is available to club members. I'll send a PM with the format I use and my own experiences. For a rare car this can be very helpful in a restoration.

The "Victoria Coupe" body style of 1914-1930
prewar40 replied to alsancle's topic in General Discussion
How about a four door Victoria. 1927 Gardner model 90. Landau irons and a divided front seat appear to be the difference from the Brougham. -
1926 IH 1 1/4 ton chassis S26 with Lycoming 6 cylinder
prewar40 replied to RickV's topic in General Discussion
Gardner used this engine in 1926 and the owners manual lists 6 quarts. Lycoming list about 6 quarts. As for the weight I use Valvoline 50w racing oil in my Lycoming eight. This oil was recommended by a renowned restorer. You'll find an 8 page pamphlet from Lycoming on the Series S engine at: http://gardnermotorcars.com/engines.html PM me if you think the Gardner manual would be of help and I'll format a pdf. -
Here's an interesting example. The first ad from Sept 1926 does not list the brand and write to a NY PO box for details The second 2 page ad says write to Gardner Motor for details. I saw this same type of promo for Erskine.

After Pearl Harbor my mom though we would lose the war and got a job riveting warbirds. My dad went into the army. Mom talked a lot about the war years my dad never did. Somehow, he thought he hadn't done his part because he never went overseas. My uncle was told he was too old (mid-thirties) but by 1943 they let him join and he was killed at Normandy. Only my mom would talk about that uncle and she knew some interesting details, five years ago I told those details to his niece and all of it was news to her. So many of the greatest generation had vivid memories and closed lips. So, my point is if you have family stories share them with your grandchildren.

Here's a link to an 8 page booklet published by Lycoming on the CT engine. www.steamwagon.com/index.php/manchester/lycoming-ct-engines -
I found this on the internet and the quality of the print is not good, but it's all I've found. I don't know if this will be of help but I'll let you be the judge. In years of collecting anything for Gardner I never found anything for Carter. Dykes 13th edition 1925 page 141. It's not in my 1927 15th edition.

Thanks oldford for the effort but the 635B for Chevrolet had a shorter shaft, so I don't think this was a replacement. I bought an interchange book to find the answer but 635L was not listed. It's in great shape and I'd like it to go to someone who needs one.

What car had this tail light? My guess was Willys Knight but it's not a match. It's 5 1/2 inches tall.

Looks like a 28 or 29 Chandler to me, but I couldn't find an exact match with the split in the louvers and the headlights."

The actress in the photo is Bessie Barriscale and she was the star of "Women go on forever". I have pictures of her in that car taken in March 1928 and the show was running at that time. I knew the car quickly but this question took 11 months.
