  1. Do these early cars, specifically chevrolet, have engine mounts, or do they bolt direct to the chassis. Even though this car is original, apparently the motor was changed, and thus might not have put the rubber cushions on the frame. What do other cars of this era have for engine mounts. Thanks
  2. I found that Vapinc.com, or Vintage Auto Parts Inc has new clevis rods, but I don't seem to be able to orderfrom them. Any ideas. I am in AAustralia. Thanks. The car is a 1929 chevrolet tourer.
  3. Thanks fot the help. I know I can get it from Filling Station, but their ones do not have the full length, only the u piece with an internal thread. PHIL
  4. I need to get 2 new clevis that hold the rear brakes. This rod is about 6 inches long with a u shape at the bottom. It holds the front of the rear brakes close to the outside of the drum.Any ideas who might have these for a 1929 chevrolet tourer. Thanks Phil
  5. Sorry, the special lube can be obtained from Penrite. It is thick and clear. Phil
  6. Normally the old oil was 600w. But you cannot get that in Australia. The conversion is now 160 oil. I was advised to use 140 being the closest oil, which has been confirmed by Penrite. Note- k I was told not to use 250, only the 140 gear oil fpr gearbox and diff. As far as water pump goes, it os a special grease, l have heard of one person using a marine grease if you can't get the other. Phil 1929 chevrolet
  7. Normally 1 oil on the bottom and two compression rings on top. I have some bolts in a spares box that might fit . Just have to compare. Phil . Also have a manual that tells you how to check rings and the placement of the gap for a 1948 holden- probably the same as the Buick.
  8. I now have the Phaeton and it is fully road registered. Just repairing the oil leaks in the rear axles at the moment. Apart from a new exhaust, it was easily registered. Phil
  9. I have a 1929 chevrolet and it is called a Phaeton and that is in their own literature for that year. Phil
  10. You might have to make sure the wheels turn true by ajusting how tight you pull up each nut, as you spin the wheel. Phil
  11. I have the 1929 chevrolet and am checking on the brakes as oil has leaked through the axle bearings onto the linings. Is there a way to clean these brakes or is it better to just replace. I might have to buy the linings and do it myself. Which way to go . Thanks Phil
  12. I still would like to know if a a model radiator cap will fit the chevrolet at 2.5 inches diameter. Thanks Phil
  13. On the 1929 chevrolet tourer the wire goes part way up the steering columnand thae you have the wire stop. 1 inch away is the earth contact. From the horn button you pprobably have a u shape wire that joins the wire to the earth. Look under the horn button. Phil
  14. Steve, should have bought a chevrolet. Phil. Although I have to repair my brakes and maybe replace the right rear axle.
  15. I have the 1929 chevrolet. Mine is the international model. R on the engine stamp is for _ right hand drive. The rest of the nos is just the engine no. The nos molded into the egine is different. These nos tell you the month (letter) , the day, and then the year ( which might only be one no I.e. 6 is 1926 or 1936. Hope this helps? Phil
  16. Thanks Trinindian, I am now replacing the gaskets on this wheel ( axle) and probably will replace the axle as the key is loose. It appears as though nobody repairs these axles except to replace them. I have oil leaking from the bearing, reason enough to replace the gasket s. Thanks Phil
  17. Just taken off the drivers rear axle and need to replace the brake shoes. Problem- the axle cutout for the key is enlarged so I will need to repair or replace the axle . What price can I expect , and can the shaft be cut in on the other side and the original cutout be filled in? It is a shame that the axle is ok yet I might have to replace it. Any ideas, thanks. Phil
  18. Fixed problem. But, will wait to see .
  19. The new seals replace the leather gasket. They sit in a cup which seals against the diff wall. In this case, because the car has not done many miles since new axles and bearings were put in, I am only replacing the seals. Thanks for the help. Phil. There is another problem. Where the cup rests against the wall there is a hole for the grease to come through. The grease has to squeeze between to get to the bearing. Question_ should I put sealant on the outside of the cup(against the wall) and again sealant on the outside of the new rubber seal(with the lip). Thanks
  20. The new seals replace the leather gasket. They sit in a cup which seals against the diff wall. In this case, because the car has not done many miles since new axles and bearings were put in, I am only replacing the seals. Thanks for the help. Phil
  21. 1929 chevrolet tourer. I have pulled out the rear axle and now putting the inner rubber? ( Hard) gasket in (to stop the oil from coming out to the brakes) and put this inside its own cup holder prior topressing it back in. The question is whether to put some grease in this rubber seal(it also has the circular spring inside this rubber seal) . I am thinking that if I do not the gasket could get hot and not perform for too long ( no oil , no grease).
  22. Thanks. Information about this obtained. It is the cast nos on the block.
  23. Thanks. Worked it out The cast nos on the block gives the year model and actual date. Details obtained from a previous query by somebody else.
  24. I have the same car but not any issues with the motor. After I start it with the choke out about 1/2 inch, about 10 seconds later I start to push it in. In 200 feet the choke is all the way in. Phil
  25. I wonder if a Ford Model A radiator cap is the same size as a chevrolet 1929 model. My inside diameter of the cap is 2.5 inches. Just trying to replace a moto meter and cap for this car.
