For grins and giggles I called the Land Rover dealer and asked him a couple of questions about the '65 Riviera.  My questions were:

Where is the shroud for the fan?

Why is there a 1964 air cleaner on a 1965?

Not too much of a response from the salesman that I talked with.  😊

I mean, pretty weird for a non-classic car dealership to sell something like this. They're not going to know sh*% about it. I wonder if the dealership owner wants to keep it but is throwing it out there just in case someone bites that worm.

  2. We’re going to replace the starter solenoid. So happens I had bought a new one last summer thinking it was an issue (starter was sticking) but realized I couldn’t install it myself without taking the starter off and I wasn’t up for that.

thanks guys. Hopefully that fixes it. The diode will be a nice backup protector for the line.

  3. So I have been having electrical starter issues. The voltage regulator would fail and the car would refuse to shut off.

My mechanic has been diagnosing it and has decided that the alternator is creating feedback and he’s going to install a special diode in the line.

Sounds interesting. Curious if anyone has had voltage regulator problems too or heard of this.

The problem is that most of them have too much mod and not enough resto.

That’s a funny line, good one.

Honestly I don’t care what they think it’s worth. If she bought it for 8k I bet she’s spent $25k on it and looks to me like it needs more still. It’s a TV show and they’re going to inflate it for drama. The owner thought it was $25k and that sounded about right to me. Maybe $30 on a good day. The mismatch panels was the worst.

On your seal, cut a couple of short lengths of clothesline and put them in the seal channel under the seal on either side of the lock area. That has worked for me in the past.

This is interesting. I'm pretty sure my rear window is not leaking, and the taillights are sealed - I think the trunk weatherstrip just isn't working great and these spots where the water gathers have rubber drain plugs, so I wonder if they are designed to drain. I will try and investigate. Again, I usually just avoid driving in the rain! haha.

  6. I try to avoid driving my 64 Riv in the rain but today was unavoidable. I get rainwater pooling in the trunk in the dimples near the trunk release. Suspect the weatherstripping isn't great, but I did replace it last year.

When I get home, I just take a rag and get all the water out of there. There appears to be 2 rubber drain plugs too and I made a point of trying to clear the holes. Still, I think I just have to endure this.

My thought is to spread some kitty litter in those dimples, just in case! Eh, what do you think? I don't see any terrible rust, just 50 years of normal deterioration.

  7. Not sure if we had the same issue, but mine wouldn't start last week. Power was fine until you clicked the ignition over, then it's like a whole fuse blew. Everything went out.

If I went and jiggled the positive cable on the battery everything came back on after a bit.

This afternoon, I went and sprayed all the electrical connections from the battery to the firewall with cleaner, then noticed the RED wire at the horn relay was burnt a bit at the connection. I jiggled that a little and sprayed it a lot. The car started as normal.

So I'm guessing I need to replace that red connector point. Hoping it's not a problem with the ignition, that didn't seem like my issue.
