Today's amusement: remove an old tire from a rim - or not

Now that's a stubborn tire! -
Both for me. Maybe building and learning more so than driving. Proof might be that I often sell something shortly after getting it running so i can finance and have room for the next project.

i hear you John, but I would pay a wee bit extra to have the green Mustang Steve McQueen had just to do a burnout now and then and pretend I am as cool as he was.

The term probably is overused, but there are folks out there that do "Build" cars from scratch, and I think term readily applies to them. Maybe I am guilty as when asked about my Chander I say I am rebuilding it as I don't want anyone to think I am restoring it.

I don't go to many shows. If its nice out and I have the free time I would rather go for a drive in my speedster. I take it on grocery runs and trips to the hardware store quite frequently , and when parked it gets lot of attention. I invite kids to climb in. There is nothing they can hurt. and you never know which kid is going to sit in there and the dream starts. It fun for everyone, but my car had a $10 K pain job and spotless interior I would be thinking differently I am sure.

My daughter helped me in the shop from a very young age. My son had no interest until he was 17 and bought a busted up Miata to raid rally. Hid very first project on it was replacing the clutch. He and his buddies did it without any help from me. All i did was help him get the car up on jack stands because I w wanted to make sure it was safe.

The Early Orphan Makes -What do you have?
erichill replied to pkhammer's topic in General Discussion
Working on putting this 1919 Chandler back on the road. My father bought it out of some farmer's field in the mid 60's, drove it home and never got anywhere with it. That's me in the driver's seat at probably 12 years old. I a 58 now. Starting to work on the body now after going through rebuilding the chassis, motor and drive train. About zero information out their on these older Chandlers. It;s been heck of a learning curve for me.- 71 replies

I would have to say mixed improperly, or they never wet sanded and polished it out completely. Did areas where they may not have wet sanded and polish shine more? The fact that the paint is single stage urethane should not have been an issue for longevity or durability. A few decades back I had a paint shop for a while and we did a lot of older sports cars -Triumphs, Mg.s 240z' etc and many of those projects were single stage using Sikkens products. I still a few of those cars around and still look pretty darn good. I painted my '48 Harley about 15 years ago, and it is ridden a lot and in rain etc and the paint still shines as new. I would imagine a daily use car parked in the sun everyday would not have held up as well. My two cents anyways, but I have been out of the business professionally 20+ years, and I am sure paints have come a long way since then.

Thinning the herd, how many cars are too much?
erichill replied to Rivguy's topic in General Discussion
For me it's two cars. One that is running and only need maintenance and the other a a project. More than one project and I am deer in the headlights and cant decide what to work on. Space is limited too. -
I have never been bothered by that question. I think most people ask because they would like to carry on a conversation and that seems to them a good place to start. While I do most of my own work including bodywork and paint I currently have a speedster that I did not build. I have no problem telling people that I purchased it. The guys that want to look down on your not building are few and far between for me anyways, and they re not worth the time. The guys and gals that may ask that do their own work I think most can appreciate we all are not in a position to do that for whatever reason. Hell for me life can get so busy with work (self employed) and family that I can go six months or more without being able to get serious shop time in. Building cars or motorcycles is not for everyone, but it was never a requirement to enjoy older vehicles. Enjoy and ignore the negative people out there. Theya re probably jealous because they can't afford to buy a car.

Just had to go and post this did ya? I had just about talked myself out of going to Hershey this fall because of previous scheduled engagements on both the weekend before and the weekend after Hershey. A love walking the swap meet looking and asking questions and learning about all kinds of stuff and purchasing a few that I absolutely do not need. I might as well start making travel arrangements tonight.

Collector vs. hoarder, what’s the difference ?
erichill replied to TTR's topic in General Discussion
Collector vs Hoarder. All depends on the attitude of your spouse. -
Can you find someone in your state who deals with selling classic cars for advice. If you can't title it you sure should be able to sell it with a bill of sale to someone in state that only needs a bill of sale. Good luck. I hate you have to deal with such frustration.

Great looking car. I would have been a nervous wreck watching him back that car out. Enjoy it!

A Chevette was supposed to be my first car. After a test drive we walked through the dealership to do the paperwork and I saw a 1969 Kawasaki 500 H! someone had just traded in. Much to my parent's dismay I came home on it instead. Best $1300 I ever spent!

Beautiful car. Makes me miss my '60 Caddy though it was no where near the beauty of yours. Is that a stock color?

Well you all are smarter than me; I just keep making the same mistakes over and over.
