  1. Wish I could help. Just have Chandler ads Look forward to seeing the article.
  2. My first antique car was a 1960 Cadillac. Quite long. Was living with my brother and sister in law. Pulled in teh driveway and before I could get to the door my sister in law was out shouting "Oh hell no that thing aint staying here!". She never warmed up to it, and since I was not in a position to afford my own house yet, I sold it about six months later. But the bug stuck and once in my own place bought a '52 Chevy Pickup. Then a few parts pick ups and well you know how it goes.
  3. Looking at his profile I think this is not legit. Trust your instincts and if they say don't trust you can pretty much bet your are right
  4. All three four of the rims are expanded and offset like this in their relaxed position..With no tire on them I can pull the ends together fairly easily, but with the tire I have not been able to. I am new to this type pf rim, so I have no experience, and don't know anyone nearby who does. Unfortunately these were all disassembled when I got the car. You are correct they are Firestone rims. Does your tab move at all? Can I weld the two back pins to the rim? Eric
  5. Trying to understand and repair demountable rims on a Chandler. The tab in the photos below is supposed to slip into the slot at other end of the rim, then the round tab is turned to hold it in place. In my trying to figure it our the tab with the hoof pooped off. I assume its suppose the far end is supposed to be able to move up and down slightly and that is why the two back pins are not welded in. So how do I get the two rear pins to stay in place but still allow movement? Though it looks like I ground off the underside of the pins I didn't the piece popped off and then I wire wheeled it down to bare metal. So as you can see the pins do not extend all the rim. If they did I assume the y would be hammered to flatten out the edges Help dealing with this would be greatly appreciated. I have never dealt with rims like this before.
  6. Its a beautiful drive and like someone mentioned tons of history along the way. Hot as heck in July/August so keep that in mind.
  7. I looked at that last year and even went back and looked at it again. My son who was supposed to be my enabler talked me out of it. I could not find any info on that company. I hope it works out great for you. His price, assuming it was about the same was decent deal. Will be unique that for sure. Good luck.
  8. I come each year as a buyer. Sometimes looking for specific things, other times like this year not so much, But it is so much fun seeing all the cool old parts or tools that I have no idea what they are and talking to the sellers about them. As someone mentioned signs seems to be the dominating thing these days, but if that's what people are buying then people are going to bring them. The friend that was with me brought up a good point. Seems most of the vendors are older and been coming for years. Is anyone going to replace them? As folks die off or can't come anymore and their kids inherent their stash are they going to come and sell? But i bet people have been saying this for decades and it still keeps going on. I did buy a new project even though I wasn't looking so next year I will be on the hunt for specific parts. I love coming. i spend way too much on gas and accommodations to justify the trip but who cares.
  9. I ;earned years back no point being there at 7 am and many vendors are still getting up and ready. We usually show up a little after 8 in the morning. Stil plenty of tiem for me as by 4 my legs and back are wiped out.
  10. Its a huge event and I am sure a challenge to host each year. No way you are going tp please everyone. I think it goes pretty smoothly speaking as a buyer not a vendor. Yea there are things I might like differently but the world doesn't revolve around me. I am grateful to be able to attend and grateful I can walk the 16 miles that we put in in two days. Next year I might need to start training in July and maybe I will make it through all the fields . Only covered about 3/4 this year.
  11. Walking the corral it seemed to me looked ;like $30K would buy you a lot of car. Lot of options in that range. I say lots of pretty good deals.
  12. Spent Tuesday and Wednesday walking the swap meet. According to my friend's Google watch we did 16 miles total and covered about 3/4 of the swap meet. I too wished it could be condensed somewhat but I also know a lot of the folks going to vend look forward to seeing their neighbors each year. Don't know the answer. Jokingly, sort of, told my wife I will need to start training for the swap meet in July. Will be back next year.
  13. Looking for an OHV conversiion for Ford Model A, A prewar chassis/ drive train to build a speedster based on it. Grease caps for a Chandler, and whatever catches my eye as unusual and may someday be of use. Haha Mostly looking to take in all the sights and talking with folks about parts I don't recognize. Bringing a friend who has b=never been so it should be interesting getting his take on everything.
  14. I can explain the fields for you easily. Green field. the first section you spend 1;2 day in feet are fine. Orange field, second field you spend the afternoon in. Feet are a bit sore but the thought of dinner and beer help mask the discomfort.. Red field is the section you walk the morning of the second day. Foot pain come back quickly and no relief. Black field-the section you begin the afternoon of the second day, and your feet say hell no, and you just glance down ailses to see if anything looks interesting. You get through the black field in about 45 minutes.
  15. Did you have the Eskine there for sale last year? It was black? If so and the same one I may be interested in it I and if not still interested in what you have.
  16. CASH Lots of it. and a shopping list and an enabler. See ya in a month
  17. Only thing I can offer is work on something with him that you can complete in a reasonable amount of time say a year. Where he can see more immediate results and not something that he begins to think will never get completed. And of course ask and take his input and direction and hopefully he'll keep more interest up in the project. Give it a shot. You wont regret trying to impact someone life in a positive manner.
  18. I can just imagine the guy looking around after he was done thinking damn where the hell did my tire iron go? At three am he lying awake still trying to figure out where it went.
  19. More cars to look at? Count me in. More folks to walk the swap meet? Sound good to me. More potential AACA members? Sound good to me. But I also get the other point of view.
  20. Wanted-Oil Pressure gauge for a 1919 Chandler though I think they were the same for a number of years. Not looking for perfect just one with a little nicer face than the one I have below. Thanks, Eric
  21. I painted my '48 Harley with single stage Urethane about 15 years ago, and it looks as good today as it did when first finished. Today;s paints, applied to a correctly prepped surface will last for decades. Assuming you are not using a metallic finish.no need for the clear coat even if you want to color sand and polish which may be over the top on a 1920's car. Be sure to share photos with us. I am still working in my 1919 Chandler
  22. My two cents-don;t over think this. I attend 3-5 cars hows a year with my speedster. I have zero dash plaques. The trophies i have are usually people choice and are nothing special but I think I am like most that attend car shows I am not there for the trophy. Hand a few out and I say don't worry of they look a lot like regular trophies. Have good food as I guess you will having the cafe, have some music, and pray for good weather.
  23. Years ago i sold a 1960 Cadillac to an airline pilot. I live north of Atlanta. The guys shows up, inspects the car, purchases it and then asks me if I think it will make it to Texas. Told him i didn't drive it to work if i had to be there on time. He drove off and I never heard from him again. There was no way that carnwas making it to Texas under its own power. And boy do I wish I had that car today.
  24. Look into arbnb or vrbo That what I do every year, if staying a few days usually ends up cheaper then a hotel.
