Took me second, Ghostymosty to figuare out what you were getting at. set aside my previous story RE: grille tridente,.... it may be wise as Ghosty says in so few words, words or as i may say boldly,.................." Be aware of this car " The Craigslist pic's of the green TC does however look like a 56,000 mile TC and the owner shows a pic of the odometer reading as such.
  2. I did get a closer look as to the grille on the British Green TC. It is a basic beehive style background grille material and is not the original TC grille. I did consider this way of after market before i started my grille project but i wanted it to be a worlds first for a TC. I decided to keep the original plastic grille / horizontal / vertical grille fins and blend it into a removable 80's Maserati Tridente. Afterall , whats 35 - 40 hours of your life worth?
  3. The close to British Green is very different, i agree. This TC owner person has a good imagination with a nice touch. I hope the TC was stripped to bare metal and all trim removed before he did this colour change. ( new paint, level and without orange peel ) What caught my eye WAY MORE!!! than that was that it has a,.. or what looks to be,... a late 80's Tridente grille emblem instead of the original Pentatrident. I would like to get a close up to see how that TC owner' made that happen and the close-up results. Back in May / June of this year, i had that same bright idea,...( although, maybe not so bright ) I bought a donor grille from Ebay and bought a Maserati Tridente also from Ebay and 35 to 40 hours latter i had completed that same task. Believe me! it can happen only by a ' labor of love ', not to mention scared /nervous sweating should you make a mistake and then have to start over, also some due to the expense but mostly due to the extreme detail to make it all happen. My goal was to make it happen so as to make it look like Factory at not ten feet away but at one foot away. This project for my TC, without labor was $320.00. I was happy at the end of that project and in fact got a very good compliment by a local Doctor who has a very rare 1991 TC with 12,000 mi .....Black and with the RED WINE Bordeaux interior. I also kept the original grille with my TC that is about a 9.2 condition wise. " I keep all of my original parts ".
  4. How many of the black one's were made with the Bordeaux interior? Found only 2 blocks away from where i live with only 12,000 miles ( 1 owner )
  5. The situation were I didn't have full control,.... I had the hard top on. The cowl effect is probably not uncommon with this car. If i understand what Bill is saying,.. is that the top holds the car in one piece so as to avoid twists and turns throughout the cars body / frame-work. Keep in mind,... I still have the original Sachs struts and i have 58,000 on them.
  6. Going back ( days ) a bit,...when texaslowell mentioned or put forth the question ' with top on or off ' and the cowl effect. I believe he was thinking ( correct me if i'm wrong ) about the top heavy effect,.... even though the Cabriolet top is only 83 ponnds,... I suppose it could create the 'out of control issue that i previously mentioned ..if you're talking about the cowl of the body ( and only ) without any cowl wind factor involvement,... then texaslowell you did indeed bring up something worthy to discuss. I guess what i would think of in the process of elimination is bad shocks / struts as to the way heavy top problems. I do hate to give up my factory 'Sach's though.
  7. I had my P4's installed six weeks ago by Discount Tire. The 29 psi was too low for all around. You can't go by the factory rec's. I found that 31psi rear and 41psi front works best for this tire / car combination. 29psi does not work. The front-end of this car is FAR TOO HEAVEY. With my adjusting tire press along with Discount Tire's guide..ing., I now,...love my new tires and the way they perform.
  8. I'm slow , I know' but i finally had the Pirelli P4's put on last Saturday. 'Discount Tire' installed the P4's with the standard 29 psi on both front and rear tires. Within twenty miles of travel,.. i had a crazy situation that required me to swerve very hard and quick to avoid devestation, new tires had a quick FIRST response but rubberbandish thereafter ( side to side sway )...... Back to Discount Tires and now 31 psi rear and 38 psi front... This is soooo much better,.... I can't explain how much this improved the handling plus the improvement on the low tire profile look on the front tires to match the rear tires equally.
  9. Draining the old fluid out completely ( every drop ) is also a very good place to start with. Petrolium products get old and then will not do their job properly and if it is in you're case, the original gear oil in you're manual Getrag tranny, it should be changed. You will also have the advantage of checking out the metalic debis on the magnetic drain plug,.... and that tells a story too. ( very helpfull ) It may have been contaminated by ' who knows what ' along the way in the hands of an un-caring / unknowing auto dealership or backyard mechanic. It is best to replace the fluid and not take chances. My Chrysler Mas service manual on page 0-3 calls a fluid change every 15K miles for the manual transaxle and recommends SAE 5W-30 ( SF or SF/CC or = ) Hemi mentioned replacing bushings and i don't even know if they are nylon or other on the TC but after 25 years, they are old and brittle and best to ( if they are going bad) as he says; replace them too. I agree. I myself have used lithium or grafite lubricate on linkage bushings on other manual trans (if they are nylon) to extend the life of the old ones if I can't replace them right away. Petrolium products take on different characteristics as decades go by but it would be the same even if it were a Borg Warner T-10 or a Muncie ( Hurst linkage ) tranny or other. Things sticking and / or sticking up are all part of the aging process, it ( age) will make things gummy til it becomes like glue,...( sticks, sticking, stuck or hanging-up ) dehydrating / oxidizing and all other science that interviens and eventually becomes part of the,... well , crusty old rubber and cork gaskets that will absolutly cause and create tranny leaks; and other,... that is a strong indication of a situation of drying and dehydration when the bushings, seals or gaskets fail. However for the internal parts of the tranny 'Synchronization' is the key word for any tranny and new fluid will help,, whether it is forward motion or going into reverse. . Thank goodness that all of those encased metal gears etc. do not wear that quickly as do the outer bushings and gaskets In you're perticular situation with a Getrag tranny problem and for the best brand of relacement fluid for best performance and least friction, Jim Bird; consult with member; Rick Diogo out of Florida for a better explaination / solution to what i have just said here. ( Rick diogo has an 11 second 1/4 mile 16V Chrysler / Mas. engine race car and you're own logic will tell you that, those results didn't happen with a bad tranny )
  10. C-OZ I do believe, if I understand correctly,.... what you're looking for in the way of a car cover, you will find it at Pep-Boys Auto Supplies. Make sure you request the '100% water proof ' ( not water resistant ) car cover. They come in various sizes. The TC is: length 175.8 width 68.5 height 51.9 RE: fuel lever trim. www.arizonaparts.com should have the original lever you're looking for.
  11. Nobody mentioned the miles on this 16V car other than trip mileage at 000. My previous thought on a price of 1k max. was based on no mileage understood whatsoever. If it has under 30K confirmed miles, I think it was a fair gamble at the price it sold for if the buyer lived somewhat local to that area. If the buyer is planning to hold on to this TC for long term and really feels it is going up in value then it is even better than a fair gamble from an investment standpoint.

Give us members the inside on a tour of this nature,.. and oH! of course... how did those Perelli's ride/ work? ..... did they,... .........How did people look at th P4's ? Old or just a new COOL! ?

In the last 15 years I've bought about thirty or so , cars from auctions,... this is not alot but i still get the feel and so i've lost money on about 15%, broke even on about another 10%, made good money on about 30% and made extreme high returns on the remaining %'s. This was something i did on the side and not my normal prof., I would buy at LOCAL auctions and try to find the best quick turn investment deal. I would bid on the car as if it had no tranny ( or a bad one ) soas to safegaurd my bid. If you back up 3 or 4 threads, someone had thoughts close to this. I did all of my own detail work and about 85% of the mechanical work needed Trying to stay close to the topic; When i first started buying auction cars, i found it stressfull,... you've just paid for the car and you get out there to start it and it only makes a clicking sound. previously BEHIND THE SCENE....are two very happy young men have made a profit on the battery that was originaly in the car and now the good car you've just bought has a junk battery. This is the way it is here when you're dealing with auctions, .. some better , some worse...... So how it relates to this 16V is that all of the cars that i started and left running , all sounded really bad except one. ( that's really bad odds ) ALL the others that sounded BAD at first, ( when cars have sat for a good long while ) only needed to get out on the open road ( 60 mph +) for twenty or so miles and get the heat and fluids running and flowing well. this works in about 85%, Noise, smoothness , ticking and clacking, shakes / brake problems & other seemed to disipate AS IF BY MAGIC.,... well with the other 15% or so,.. you're on you're own.
  14. I have not seen this car or know anything about it but the estate holder claims that the deceased owner had spent 17K with receipts in resto. This is a 1991 4-way black as i understand it. They don't mention the miles on the car. I found this on Craigslist in the Seattle area so you will find it easily.
  15. I've got a good feeling about this 16V car. This is one that was garaged most of its life, had old gas and so it may not start or run good but it,.. and / or, might have been willed to a grandson / daughter etc.... or whoever and they don't know what to do with it now. I would just tack on the cost of another Getrag trans. ( almost worst case ) then determine if its worth it. Looks to me like a fair gamble for those of you that are local to that area to snag it for a good price that is under $1,000 dollars.

Maybe the best way to conclude this topic is by saying that if all the above stated problems / mistakes had not happened,.. starting with Maserati being nearly 2 years late in production, their might be a million of these little cars on the road today then they wouldn't be unique but just a common car , one on every street corner,..like Mercedes, Honda, BMW & Tesla's .... (Alfieri and Lido as well, would have then upon seeing this, had a heart attack) ,..... then we probably would not want to own one today and the value of the car would be near zilch now and in decades to come.
  17. Trying to stay closer to the tiitle subject; ............. ( I would like to 'thread-off' on another topic soon RE: the last message by Hemi ) .............. The base price on a 2015 Maserti Ghibli is $65,600.00 and that's in ' Now Dollars'. Are beloved TC's varied between $33,000.00 to roughly $38,500,00 in 1989 to 1991. This equates to 71K - 72K in todays dollars. Any coments?

Vonblood, as i leave this message you are likley on the 'OLds 27 cruise' ....and OH! sorry about you're broken bolt thing ( bad luck ) on the thermo and you got it fixed... but...I hope all in the cruise are having a BLAST! ........... This will give a good ' field day ' as to how the Pirreli P4's are doing. I wanted you and others members to know that , it is the P4 'PLUS' that i willl be putting on my TC and it is probably the same that you have on your TC now. The PLUS is just the upgrade of that tire. One last note on the Pirelli tire; the Chrysler originated ' Viper ' and the Dodge ' Hellcat ' (SRT) from what i'm seeing in later 2015, also use the Pirelli tire on their 600 Horsepower plus cars.
  19. Adding to the list. My TC is a 1991 4 way black ( 58K miles ) has wood trim , no fuzzy speakers , came with hardtop carrier and was a late production car. Production date is March 1990. Vin # ending in 207909
  20. Bill, were they Pirelli P4's that you put on the front or P6's or other?............ With only two front tires to make a big difference,.... Thats ' CRAZY. ( in a good way ) Is the steering from left to right more or less positive? When you say harder ride I would assume you mean the Pirelli has a greater comfort ride vs Goodrich.
  21. I was really hoping that someone would go on this thread who actually had chromed the Fondmetal rims soas to make it a little easier on myself and others. It didn't happen, so i seeked out. ............ A TC member that is now out of the Country but was happy with his Fondmetal Chrome results when he had it done at a given company. He has emailed me and will tell about this towards the end of the month. Maybe early Sept.
  22. Hemi, i'm glad you threw in on the conversation. Thanks Marty14 for you're input too. This is very good info. for anyone on this thread. 'Confirmed history' will without a doubt, make the value of this rare two seater grow in a much larger way. Marty, i believe the loss was huge with Sprint R/T and IROC R/T. I happen to have a soft spot for street sleepers ( Sprint R/T ) but as Hemi brought to the forefront, RE: TC complete and total costs / R&D venders etc., costs and with all capital letters in my book,............ SHIPPING PREPARATIONS & SHIPPING COSTS,... being the final big iceberg to sink the TC ship,.. sad, but could be proven true, i do believe. So the BIG MYSTERY of this little car will indeed continue for sometime to come for a list of other reasons adding to a gathering pot of things undefined and inconclusive. Something i should make clear to anyone that is following this thread from earlier, ( from my last statement ) ,....and you may never have heard of this,... ( Hemi exclusive ) ...Chrysler calls their auto designers ......... 'Stylists ', I don't know why, but they do and thats been the way its been with chrysler for oodles of decades. To me its the way i'd think of a hair thing,.. but what it equates to is an ' automotive body designer ' to most of us. It should be understood that Tom Gale was the' Chief Body auto designer.' ( coach designer ) in the late 80's and early 90's. for Chrysler (Please correct me if i'm wrong here Hemi or others). I've read the loss of 103,000.00 stated from some sources and Hemi says over 100,000.00 each TC,... it seems to match (close) and now i've thrown away my dollar store caculator because of all this. So now we have got a good idea on Chrysler's loss,....... So how about Maserati's loss's to add to the pot (?) WOW !!!!!!! .............. here we come. trimacar, the decibel point may have been in the right place after all.
  23. vonblood, I am trying to figuare out if I want to do something with my rims at the same time I have my P4's put on. You have responded to my blog regarding potential tires and now i'm thinking that nows the best time to resolve the dull finish issue of the Fondmetal rims. You have chosen to do a pro rehab on the rims to make them like new and the photo's look great. In person when you are looking at them in sun / night and alll types of light, do they look almost like chrome? Best stated and like you said, photo's can't show it all true, so you're best decription might be better. If you'd be so kind, what was the luster like before and after? ............... So you know, I'm considering chroming, but understand that over aluminum has potential long-term issues? I also wonder if their is magnesium ( to make them lighter ) for this Italian factory typical 'Formula One' Fondmetal rim. One thing that concerns me about chroming is that blistering might or could possibly happen? If you have people looking down at your wheels in awe when you drive you're TC now, maybe chroming is NOT the best answer.
  24. Hemi, i'm not surprised that Pirelli makes their tires in South America or as Digger914 says Rome Georgia. Seems to be a growing worldwide trend these days, for the big manufactures to make there product out of the Country or a long distance from the companies Headquarters. The big U.S.A. Companies do this as well. Maybe in the case of pirelli, its closer to the rubber materials from the rubber trees there. Less shipping costs. Who knows. Vonblood asked if i got my P4's and if so, what do i think. I still plan on getting my Pirelli P4's but have held off since i may have my Fondmetal wheels chrome plated during the same time. I checked on this 6 months ago and the cost was prohibitive, ... $1,900.00 after shipping costs. Now i am finding Chroming for aluminum wheels for about $750.00 including the centercaps and shippings costs to & from California. There was a yellow 16V TC on Ebay a couple weeks ago that showed close-ups of the tripple chrome ( he says ) and the caps looked great as well. Just when i was about ready to go in and get my Pirelli's put on too. A few more of my thoughts on Pirelli: The Maserati 100th ( 2014 ) Aniversary car is called ' Alfieri ' which is 2 years late of course,... be avail. in 2016, anyway, i got a close up of the wheels online and it had Pirelli tires. Lamborghini has used Pirelli's exclusivley since the 1960's and infact have a new 'Pirelli Edition Lamborghini' out now. The winners seem to choose Pirelli plus the Pirelli Headquarters is Milan Italy, where the TC was completed. Pirelli is going on 144 years in tire production and they have a good track record on and off the track.
