  1. Thank you for the Feedbacks! Probably I won't be there at the meet, long trip from Switzerland and no holidays left for that! But I'm pretty sure, he will send it if he has some
  2. Hey Chuck! Really, really well done job - I can imagine very well what kind of problems you encountered... Im doing exactly the same work right now on my 65Riv and I'm deeply impressed how neat your car looks now! Congratulation for that great work and thank you for the inspiring photos! In some parts I went a bit farer... I changed the whole panels with birch wood instead of this ugly "papmaché" (pasteboard) and made the vinyl and fabricworks with the basic material from SMS Auto fabrics too. They where able to provide me the original vinyls and fabrics of the luxury version of the seats for '65 Buicks GM exported to Europe. I was pretty lucky to find SMS!!! Same as you, I first ordered all the patterns and as they came, I was very impressed about the quality they provide! What I also redone is the complete paintings of all parts in original color (the mixing of the colors where done by my good friend and specialist) the apply then by myself. Wooden applications where also redone completely with canadian maple (provided by a german specialized provider) wich I finished with a special oil mix for parquet. Looks pretty neat at the end! So now I have a complete new interior as they rolled from assembly line ;-) Now all interior is done, I've just to put everything in place again. As a newbie with zero skills in all kind of these restoration workings, I'm a little bit proud of what I could achieve in this challenge! I say that just because a lot of you guys out there could do your restoration all by yourself only by watching some pics, exchange your problems in forums (here I want to thank all the people who supported me with great ideas and very constructive suggestions) and last but not least, forsting the internet (Google became my best friend!). What I learned during these workings is that with a bit imagination, problem management and a helping hand from time to time, everybody is able to get a good skill level to restore a lot of things in their own oldtimer! Nothing is more satisfying then that! (Well, ok, except good s.. ) For whom it interests, here the link to my flickr album (work in process): https://www.flickr.com/photos/142025655@N08/albums Enjoy!
  3. Does anybody know where to buy this indicator insert for 65 Riviera? I have replace mine which is broken. I was searching the web for hours, couldn't find anything (or have to buy the whole plate, wich I already have restored). I only need the black the insert with the letters... Any suggestion are welcome :-) Thank you! P.S.: This one on the pic is not mine, (I found it on internet, it's a insert for 65 Riv).
  4. Your seats looks great! =) This is something I've seen on TV one of the last days (was a restoration of a very old Porche)... They have cut the seams, and only the lateral panels provided with new leather. Old leather was refurbished with some special and colored grease they massaged in by hand. No difference between old and new at the end! That was very interesting (and a lot cheeper ) ! have fun with you new seats! Mine are remade completely by new ones and in one peace... made by SMS Auto Fabrics (A very well done job!)
  5. Thank you EmTee His is what I'm afraid of the more and more I look to this wheels... I have no air ride system on my Rivi why these wheels will look a bit ridiculous on my car. I found out, this are 14" rims from Sinister, not from Dayton as Steve and I first thought. In any way, I will look for other rims like these, but bigger (at least 15" or better 16"). If you have any idea where to get them for a good prize, I'll be very grateful! =)) Thank you all again to have prevent me of a wrong buying!
  6. Hi Ed I'm so grateful you took the time to drop your lines! In fact, I'm a bit blended about the look and the prize of these rims, so that I didn't ask myself deeply, if its the right wheel size I need... In deed they look great and prize is fair, but as you mentioned right, they are with 13" quite small and possibly the seller wants to get rid off them exactly because of the factors you mentioned... What I want is to have some rims and tires like these, but in a classical look (and last but not least secure) and well balanced to my Riv! I've too less experience at the moment to be sure what's fitting, why I posted this thread... What I want is a well balanced look with knock-off wire wheels to a reasonable prize... ;-) So if you tell me - with your great experience - these rims would not be really safe for my car, I prefer to leave that deal! Eventually you would know who to ask for wire rims like I'm searching for? (I prefer not to expend a big fortune for that, if possible! ;-D) Again, thank you so much Ed, I really appreciate!!!
  7. Hi Steve Thank you very much for these kind inputs and for the explanation pics! I'm very glad to know that the rims are from a good and high quality US brand (I was a bit afraid they came from China for that prize). So I'm tempted to say that 1000 box is a reasonable value for the whole package... About the spacer: I will check out if needed when the wheels are here, this is not difficult to find some who fits here in my country ;-) Again, thank you and have a great day!
  8. I've got the opportunity to buy some wire rims with tires. As I always liked to have some on my Riv, I'm very tempted to buy these (see pics). The seller seems to be a neat guy and he would sell this 4 wheels for 1000$. I don't know anything about the brand of the rims and how much they would cost if there where new... On the pics I got, they look very nice and clean. I've also no idea about the tires... (Seems to be some Premium Sport). The seller told me, he drive only 100 miles with, so they are quite new. What do you think? Is that a good deal?? Anything important I've to think about before I would buy them? One open question is, what kind of adapter I've to bolt on... it is not clear yet if they are part of the wheels. Every feedback is very appreciate!
  9. They truly are Paul! ...Its why I got these Xenon high beams from Delta (not the originals I know, but security in that particular case goes first - also why I'm thinking about LED brake light).
  10. Good to know, thanks Tom ???
  11. Thank you all for these very useful comments and helping informations! I was thinking about that change because a lot of bulbs of my Riv are already broken (specially into the dashboard), so I was looking for a alternative... After all your feedbacks, it is now clear to me that I'll discard the idea to convert to LED and will stay on the original instead. Do you guys know where to buy some kits? Here in Switzerland no chance to buy these kind of bulbs, why I would prefer to buy all at once - otherwise I will have to pay so much more for shipping! Eventually, Jim, could you give me these infos? I really would appreciate! =) Ed, thank you also for your inputs about the brake lights... this was also something I was thinking about to change to brighter LED-light (turnsignals included! At the front they are actually not very good visible). So thank you for the hint with the resistance! Headlights are already upgraded (https://www.opgi.com/riviera/1965/lamps-lenses/light-bulbs/CH25130/) Greez, Eric
  12. Hi while I restore the complete interior of my 65Riv, I was asking myself if this would be a good idea to change the whole lights into LED... I've found a kit who could fit on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kit-1-NOS-B-Buick-203-peice-LED-SMD-Instrument-Panel-Courtesy-Light-Bulb-4-Box-/271171218173?fits=Make%3ABuick|Model%3ARiviera&hash=item3f23106afd:m:mJI-bQzlQDuG-sHXmQl3KVA&vxp=mtr Does anybody made some experiences with these kind of Kits? Would you recomend to make a change like this? If not, what speaks against it? Any change to do on the electrics? Thank you for your feedbacks ?
  13. Eureka! That was it! I finely got that board out! Thank you Jeff, that was a damn pice of work (screws were totally rusty)... I'm so happy to be able to restore it outside the car now!
  14. Hi Pete Try to get in touch with Rick Rawls (aka "buickbonehead") ..he knows everything about that topic. http://forums.aaca.org/profile/111062-buickbonehead/
  15. Yesterday I gave a new try on it but I'm still in big trouble with my dashboard who doesn't want to come out! I was 3 hours laying under the steering wheel or somehow in back breaking positions to try to take that ****biiiip***** Dashbord out, but no way! I also put the tilt column down as much as I could, build out the dash pad on top to have a better look inside, but it seems that the dashboard can't go over the ring behind the steering wheel because on top there is this this metal dash holder which I can't build of... Maybe you guys could me give some more advice if I post few pics... Thank you so much for helping me! This is the view on the back of the dashboard thru the front window (where the dash pad was mounted) I can't bring the dashboard over this ring just behind the steering wheel... (I tried to build off the structured tube on the top of the tilt column to have more space, but this, I couldn't build off nether...) The dashboard can't pass toward also because of this top bar wich is the dash holder View from under the tilt coulumn
  16. Thank you Bill for all these interesting infos. I took a look at it and found what I'm looking for... Did you meant this trunk parts of the catalogue (see page 3)? http://www.oldbuickparts.com/cart/pdf/catriv/riv15.pdf ...they have the half cover I'm looking on the last page. For the full cover, it seems that they provide them only for 63 early models. Regards, Eric
  17. Hi Bill Looks great, thank you for the pics! I will redo my trunk too 'cos it looks worse than on your first photo ! I've ordered all material in the US and have it here, but I didn't started yet. Where did you got the hull for the wheel? Or is it remade by handwork? Please let me know, thank you very much! Regards, Eric
  18. Just awesome work Alexander! Thank you for sharing the pics and process descriptions! I'm also in the restoration process of the whole interior of my 65 wich I documented with a lot of photos... will post them soon
  19. Hi Chimera What a cool Riv! Yes in deed, that was discussed in following thread: Maybe this can help you!? It is a good idea that I also had, but uhh... the angle is really bad. If you mount the mirror at the same level than the one on driver side, you really will see nothing! If you change the placement of the mirror, it changes a lot to the optic of the car wich is not well balanced anymore (in my opinion).
  20. So do I! This thread is quite old, so I don't know if anybody will see my request: (If not, I'll start a new thread). Any chance to get this horn bar and horn cap from buickbonehead? I tryed to get in touch with him one week ago, but didn't got any response by now. Do you guys know where is an other place to get these parts? (...and ship them to Switzerland!) Many thxx
  21. Cool, thank you very much for the information, I just ordered them... Have a great day!
  22. Hi Maybe you'll get some here: http://www.smsautofabrics.com/ I've no experience with carpet mats, but I made my floorings and door panels of my 65 with their looped products and I'm very happy with - looks absolutely like original! You can ask for patterns to check out the material and color... they do it exactly made to measure (or the way you would like it). Regards.
  23. Hi and thank you guys for your answers! @Rivnut: So you mean, I could buy the same as I allready have (remote) and only change the rotation to be able to place it on the passanger side!? That would be perfect... I'm just a bit unsure, 'cos when I look at the mirror I have, the head where the circular mirror holder is fixed on with the screw, has an individual angle. How is it possible to rotate it to have the right symetry ??? In my opinion this head part must be turned 180 degrees up side down wehere is no hole to scew it in... Do you know how I mean? But maybe I'm totally wrong with my point of view... If you tell that it is absolutly possible to do the way you told me, so will buy one - I've such problems every time I park in in my small place... (Beton pilon)
  24. Hi Darren Thank you for your answer and for the link! I'm looking fo a manual version. The original mirror I have on my Riv looks a little bit different... I would like to mount one on passenger side who should look the same than the one I already have. I've found some on ebay, but these are all for driver side. Hmm... Any other suggestions? Thanks for helping!
  25. Hi Steve No idea about that... but maybe Frank could answer your question? It seems that he intensivly study registry of the power plants. Greez from Switzerland, Eric
