1970 Ford Ranchero GT - real or clone?
Buick56Special replied to Buick56Special's topic in General Discussion
It looks like if the fourth character in the VIN is an 8 then it's a real GT so I'll pass that along to him. Thanks.... -
My brother in Florida is seriously considering buying a '70 Ranchero GT and I was wondering if there is a certain letter or number in the VIN/serial number to show that it's a real GT and not a clone. He's going to see it tomorrow (Sunday) so please reply ASAP if possible. Thanks....

help me start my Dad's car

Have you checked the brakes? If so and they're OK and you don't live on a busy street try pushing or pulling it down the road at 20-25 mph. It may start that way. Good luck.... -
I was just wondering why you would purchase a 1978 AMC Concord? I owned a clean '61 Rambler several years ago and heard a lot of not so positive comments at car shows and cruises so it may be even worse with one from the late '70s. Good luck with it....

There's a lot of different ways to do it....

If someone buys something through Ebay and pays via Paypal and they aren't happy with it all they have to do is file a claim. Ebay has a simple policy when this happens-the buyer is always right and the seller is always wrong. I've sold over 30,000 items on Ebay since 1999 and have been down this road many times. Even if you tell them that they "are on the hook for it" they can file a claim and Paypal, which is owned by Ebay, will put a hold on the amount of the claim in your account and you can kiss that money goodbye....

If it weighs less than 70 pounds send it by parcel post with the US Postal Service. Put a lot of bubble wrap around it and use a strong box. Good luck....

I need a set in good condition for my '56 Buick at a reasonable price. I don't want bias ply, just radials. If you're within a couple of hundred miles of Louisville, Ky I'll cruise over and pick them up because shipping them would be a PITA for you and expensive for me. Please email me at 61rambler@bellsouth.net with pics and price. Thanks....

Put what you're searching for in quotes, as in "1956 Buick" and it will narrow down the number of search results considerably and eliminate a lot of the crap. I've sold over 30,000 items on Ebay to people in over 40 countries since 1999 and have seen a lot of changes with them for better and for worse. It's still the biggest marketplace in the world whether you like them or not. What other site reaches over 100 million people in over 100 countries? Good luck....

I had the front end aligned today at one of the shops recommended by Fred Trusty, the president of the Louisville chapter of the AACA. The tech said the toe-in was off so both front tires were pointing outwards which explains why it was so hard to steer. He also tightened up the screw on one end of the center link four turns because he said it was way too loose and he also heavily greased everything up front which I'm sure helped too. It made a big difference so now I can steer it with one finger instead of two hands. We took it for a spin when he was done which is when he explained to me all

Fred called me this afternoon and we had a nice chat for half an hour. He recommended a couple of places in Louisville where I could get an alignment. He said they only accept new members into their chapter of the AACA in October which I thought was a little weird. He said to contact him in August or September so I could fill out an application. They have a limit of 275 members so I guess they can pick and choose among the applicants. Are all chapters like that?

They are radials which were purchased new when the car was restored in 1996-97. They don't have any cracks or other signs of age on them so I'm going to stick with them because I don't want to spend $1000 on a set of radial wide whitewalls right now. (Does anyone here have a decent used set of 15" WWW for sale?) Here's what it looked like during the frame-on resto in 1996-97....

Thanks for the comments and advice. I have a factory shop manual but I couldn't find any specs in it for the front end alignment. I haven't received any emails from anyone. I'm going to put 50 pounds of air in the front tires like someone suggested and see if that makes any difference. My wife has no interest in old cars whatsoever so I probably won't be joining the AACA. If I get this problem resolved I'll let you guys know. Thanks again....
