I have been car crazy since day one and began my admiration for the Buick Riviera when it first came out. My aunt and uncle had a next door neighbor who bought a new 1963 and I would always be checking it out when we went to visit. I knew I would own one some day and that day came in March of 1972 when I bought a used 1964 for $750.00. It was diplomat blue with a deluxe white vinyl interior. I was a senior in high school at the time and my gear head friends were envious. I ended up keeping that car for 24 years!
I have owned several other 64's and 65's and numerous parts cars over the years. The 1965 is my personal favorite, particularly the Gran Sport. I prefer the small emblem cars.
In October of 2000, I bought a 1969 with 6,700 original miles. It was all original right down to the tires. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time when I purchased the car from the estate of the original owner. I reluctantly sold the car in 2015 and I regret it to this day. I also had a 1997 that I purchased with 30,000 miles from the wife of a Buick dealer. It was my daily driver for a number of years and I handed it down to my son. It had 197,000 miles on it when he sold it and was still running great.
I am a charter member of ROA with a member number of 67. What a great organization! I don't currently own a Riviera but I hope to own one again soon. I still sell parts that I have accumulated over the years and I look forward to helping out members and enthusiasts whenever I can.
