  1. Been a while since I posted here!

The 57 Project is slowly but surely moving along. I got the body work passenger-side of the car, (the worst side), completely done with patched doors, fenders, new rockers, etc.

Currently the engine is out. It needed new freeze plugs, plus I wanted to repaint the whole thing and power-wash under the hood and get what I could reach undercoated.  With that done, the engine will, (hopefully), be back in soon!

When you put the drum back in place with the tension coil detached, the tang bent out at the end of the coil should be just a little ways away from where it needs to go.  You should then compress the coil just enough to get the end tang in place.  Is that how you did it?  Do you have any pictures of your drum on the spring side that shows the orientation of the coil/spring when at rest?  I'm wondering if A] the spring itself has been damaged/stretched or B] the orientation of the spring has changed (maybe during repair).  If A] is true, it might be tough to get it calibrated correctly and may only be possible through trail and error.  If B] is true, the shaft would need to be repositioned so that the spring is correctly oriented.

I actually just removed the entire assembly. I can take some pictures and send them over and see if you can make anything of it. I had to take 2 speedometers and make one. I did it about 2 years ago and forgot how it all went back together, to be honest. But i know it all seems to work great, minus this issue. If it can be solved without me sending it off that'd be great!

I'll get some pictures later on todnight.

What do you mean by "out of adjustment"?  If it is put together correctly and the components are in good order, there should not be anything to adjust.  It sounds like maybe you have the tension coil wound too much or inserted incorrectly?

    Hi, Lance!

I'm thinking the tension coil is wound too tight/is too loose. Everything works like it should, and by the I mean it no longer grinds, jumps around, or anything of the sort. The problem I have now is it's almost too sensitive - I'll be going 10 mph and it says I'm going 35. I just don't know how to properly adjust the coil so I know it's the correct tightness.

  4. Hello, I am looking for someone who works on property adjusting the Speedometer for a 1957 Buick. I have replaced the ribbon and gauges, and everything seems to work fine, however the ribbon is out of adjustment, and I'm tired of trying to fix it.

Any leads/contact information would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  5. Hello everyone!

I do appreciate everyones input, it really does help a lot and i value your time and knowledge.

I bought the 4bbl intake back in 2017 and have had it sitting on a shelf since! I found one in a California junkyard and paid about $50 shipped. Im going to slap it in the ol 364 one day and see how it does.

Brandon, can you show some examples of your work,

whether it's for Buicks or even for non-automotive artwork?

    All the best to you.

I saw a cartoon where an old car's owner took his car

to a restoration shop to be "checked."

The car came back to him, its body painted in a bold checkerboard pattern!

Hi John, and thank you for your reply!

The two pictures that are in the ad above are two examples of paintings i have done, but i will include an image of a 1940 Buick i painted for a customer and a painting of the Titanic.

You should get a painting! (If you want)

    Thanks again for your message.

  7. I am open to a couple more Buick paintings. Please see the advertisement below and let me know if you would like your car turned into a piece of art that you can use on shirts, framed on a wall or to show off to all your car friends!

All of my work is done by hand. No tracing or photo manipulation.

Let me know via email, phone or PM if interested. If not allowed on this page I apologize. Move it to where it needs to be, (hopefully not the trash).

...assuming that you don't break something irreplaceable in the process.  The speedometer in my GP reads about 5 mph low at 55 mph.  Rather than muck around with the car, trying to correct for the error introduced by the modern radials, I have re-calibrated my brain to drive at an indicated 60 mph for 55 actual mph.  No parts to buy and no risk of damage.  I save my energy for things that matter.  ;)

I'd like to get it fixed as much as i can, because it does matter to me, silly. ?

  9. Hello. I was wondering if there is a way to adjust the speedometer on my 1957 Buick without taking it all apart again? Mainly I'm asking if they have an access hole in it to adjust the resistance.

I've had the speedometer tinkered with a couple times, it used to not work at all. Now it works fine, but it's a little too sensitive, saying I am going 55mph when I'm going say 30. I believe the problems lies in the speedometer rather than the transmission, since I've messed with the speedometer a couple times and I know for a fact it was completely broken before.

    Thanks for any help!

  10. Hello all. I may be long forgotten on here by now - It's been a while. I'm slowly creeping my way back into the internet car world.

Super fast updates on what I have been doing over the past year:

    - Built a garage for my 1957 Buick

    - Ended up buying my SECOND project car.

    - Garage is already full.

While I did not work on the Special itself that much last year, I consider building a polebarn just for it, (and now my second car), progress on its restoration, haha. I'll include a couple pictures of the Buicks new home! I love my new polebarn, and I thank my father for helping me build it. I'm ready to get back into staying updated on here, asking for help, giving advice when I can and get to finishing up the Buick.

Cat Update: Oswald still rules! He helped build the garage.

Thats just an aluminum bell housing isn't it??

I may be wrong but won't a Saginaw and Muncie interchange?? Same bell housing?? Don't know if length is the same.

I think I have a bell housing that I had as a spare for a 1968, 327 Muncie. Never owned or swapped a Saginaw, so I don't know.

I'm not using it. When some one confirms that "all bell housings are the same" your welcome to it.... Not much more than shipping.

Really? Awesome! Thank you so much. I believe those two do interchange. The only concern I have is if a Chevy 350 and 327 bell housing bolt the same. I will pm you if you would like

This thread is a blast from the not so distant past. Brandon, what was the name of the place that did your work? Wouldn't mind finding something like that near me, that's about all I can afford.

I'm sorry!!! I just now saw this! The guy that did mine is just a local friend that lives near me and happens to do upholstery for a living, haha. Really talented and nice guy. Did exactly what I asked.

You might want to check this thread out. It's a unibody Chrysler, but....https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1960-chrysler-new-yorker-rustoration.1061117/page-4#post-12087999

If you could get some photos of the underneath areas that you can cram a camera into, that would help determine how bad it really is. Maybe get that trunk open and have a look. I would grab it if it only has a few holes in it.
