  1. What is the best coolant to put in my 1954 Buick Century? I presume there is a thread on here somewhere but can't find it currently. Any tips for the flush? Thanks, Kevin
  2. Anyone know of anyone who makes seat foam for older Buicks? I have a 54 Century and my upholstery guy says he can cut new foam but it is easier if I can find it ready made. Thanks...
  3. Dan, I found the attached build sheet yesterday in my 54 Century. Maybe it'll help you decipher yours. You would have loved seeing my smile as I unearthed it from under the carpet. Kevin
  4. Hi All, While pulling the front seat carpet back a bit to reposition it better, I found this 8x10 card under the front passenger carpet. (see attachment). It looks like some sort of build sheet with the options on my car. Has anyone ever seen one of these before? It describes my car to a T. Posted this on the 1954 Buick Hwy forum as well, so forgive me if you see it twice. Thanks... Kevin
  5. Sean - thanks - will try the Pittsburgh chapter option. Take care, Kevin
  6. Anyone know how to get a copy of the June 2014 Bugle? I recently joined BCA and noticed the June edition was all about '54s. Would like to have a hard copy. Thanks. Kevin
  7. Jpromo, Thanks. As you can see from the picture, mine has a few dings, so needs replaced at some point. If you can look for it, that would be great. Thanks!!
  8. I actually uploaded the picture in my "images" in my profile. I hope you can see it there. Thanks.
  9. I measured and it is 30 inches long, 2.5 inches wide at the bottom and about 1.5 inches wide at the top. I have a picture of it and can try to send in a private message. Thanks.
  10. It is about 2 ft long and wider at the bottom. I can measure exactly tomorrow. Thanks for looking for it.
  11. Hi all, I am looking for a piece of stainless steel molding for my 54 Buick Century 4-door. It is part # 1163662 and is for the right rear door. If anyone has one, used or NOS, please let me know, I am happy to buy it from you. Thanks! Kevin
  12. Chris, Thanks - yours is a beauty too! Yes, I want to go to the Rockville show in June, so hope to see you there. I hope to have the horn working by then  Kevin
  13. Unfortunately, the original spare was replaced with a brand new tire. Will post pic of the trunk when I can take one. Here is the data plate. I did not replace the tires last summer, was the previous owner. I think I would have kept them. And yes, the Nail Head V8 does scat, with a nice whiiirlll on acceleration.
  14. Thanks guys for the nice comments. When I drove out to first look at it, I said to myself, I am not going to buy this car! (Don't need, can't afford, etc.) Then I saw it and all that changed. Had to have it -- it had so much in its favor. Low mileage, almost all original, new tires (original tires were removed in 2014), new brakes, engine rebuilt 5,000 miles ago, great colors, etc. Mr Earl, I did not know some of those distinctions of the Century. Now, I can talk like I know something! Sure, you can put the year in the title of the thread, no problem. I will post a pic of the data plate from home. I love Buicks because of the many bold color combinations. Who would have thought a creamy beige would go nicely with a deep green interior. In fact the green interior makes the slightly tinted windows glow in a way that makes it very welcoming. Ya just want to get in it and go somewhere.
  15. Keith, Thanks. I tried to upload a picture when I posted this, but it didn't work. Here is one that should go through. I had a 55 special as my first car at age 17, so I am reliving my youth in this -- but a little more careful! Love my Buick!
  16. Lucky for me, the horn wire is not an issue because that is the reason I am taking the wheel off. The horn wire is there but is loose and not connected to the horn connector slipring. The wire is just hanging inside the shaft. The slipring was in the glove box when I bought the car, so I have to reassemble. So, I can remove the horn wire before getting the wheel off. Will try auto parts store, or local garage for a puller. Thanks again for the help all.
  17. Thanks guys. I knew good advice would be forthcoming. Will try these suggestions when I get a break from work and weather. HNY to all...
  18. I am working on restoring the horn in my 1954 Buick Century. I have all parts needed but have run into a snag. I can't get the steering wheel off the hub. I removed the flexible horn ring, the shaft nut and lock washer, so threaded shaft is exposed but the steering wheel (which should now be free) does not budge. Maybe it is just stuck but I can't get it to move. Manual says to use a J 1566 puller which looks like a three-pronged claw with a screw down in the middle, but alas I do not have one. Anyone else have any such problem when trying to remove the steering wheel? I do not want to be too rough with it for fear of damaging something. Thanks. Kevin
  19. Hi All, In November, I bought a 1954 Buick Century Tourback 4-door sedan. Only 39,000 miles on it and it is pretty original. Painted once in original Casino Beige with a green interior. It has a little old lady provenance. I found it in Salisbury, MD and I live in Arlington, VA, so I drove it over the Chesapeake Bay bridge to home, 130 miles, without a problem. Thanks to all for posting good info on all little and big things that need attention when owing a 60-year old baby! Kevin
  20. Thanks Brian, The slipring is still in good shape. I found it in the glove box. I now have to connect it to the wire that is hanging in the shaft. Someone cut it at some point. Also, after further inspection, looks like the gasket under the brass slipring is in good shape too, so I have to take the wheel off and reassemble once I get the new relay.
  21. New to this discussion. Bought a 54 Century a month ago and horn is a bypass button under the dash. Would like to restore it to the steering wheel. The relay on the column (with the 2 screws) is gone, but I found one and can order it, NOS. In the glove box is an in-tact brass slipring with a short white wire soldered to it. I guess someone had the whole thing apart if this is off its shaft. Took off the horn ring from the steering wheel and inside the steering shaft is the spring loaded connector for the horn button with a white wire attached but it is not connected to anything -- it is about 2 feet long, just hanging inside the shaft. Does someone know how this long white wire makes contact with the horn relay? The shaft turns when steering of course, so if the wire goes through a hole in the shaft, it would get tangled. I think I'm smart, sometimes, but can't figure this one out. I suppose to fix this, I will have to take it all apart, but would like to know how it connects before I start. Thanks for any advice. Follow up - I saw a photo of the slipring on another post and I see how it turns when the wheel turns and the relay touches it constantly. So my question is answered, BUT, where can I find the rubber bushing that goes in between the slipring and the shaft? Or, can I make one out of something else? Thanks...
