  1. I like the stance on your car . Can you get measurements from ground to wheel well trim for me - front and back . Thanks KReed ROA. 14549
  2. Hi Bob - got them long ago from Tom Mooney. KReed ROA 14549
  3. Hello everyone and Merry Christmas - I am starting to thin my Riviera herd a little due to some health and space issues . I currently have 10 Rivieras between 1963 -1972 and need the space in my building . I am starting with this really nice 66 GS . Here’s the story on this car: I purchased the car about 5 years ago . It was painted lacquer black and advertised as correct numbers GS . I bought it sight unseen ( lesson learned ) based on multiple pictures . The seller said the paint was 8/10 . When it arrived the paint was 4/10 and looked like it had it had been painted in a sand storm. The motor was incorrect and was a 401 MT code (which actually ran great) instead of a correct 425 MW It did have a correct 3.42 rear end . The car is an original bucket seat car , non AC car . Original paint code was gunmetal . With above findings I started a 2 year frame -on restoration . Being a California car it had no rust issues . Stripped the car to bare metal and repainted gunmetal- no Bondo . Took out the MT 401 and installed a correct, rebuilt MW 425 with completely rebuilt dual correct Carter carbs . Rebuilt the 3.42 rear end . Interior is mint bucket seats ,dash with faux wood steering wheel , power windows , power seat , power brakes and antenna . It is a non- AC car being from California . Suspension , red line tires , brakes , steering and exhaust are excellent . Trunk completely restored . Rally wheels and all trim excellent .All electrical works including headlights . I have no prior documentation on the car . The car runs extremely strong and one that you will enjoy . ( gunmetal color is killer ! ) I am offering here first before exploring other options . Feel free to contact me with questions . Price is $42,500 firm KReed ROA 14549
  4. Thanks Tom as usual you make it it sound very simple. Didn’t realize there was a specific internal relay for the park position . I sure hope that is working after spending $$ getting that darn motor rebuilt and the royal PITA installing it ! Will check it out later today . Thanks very much . Ken KReed ROA 14549
  5. Ok all you windshield wiper guys . Finally got to the point in my 65 restoration to actually putting on my windshield wipers yesterday . The motor was rebuilt and the two speeds work perfect. My problem is the wipers do not park in the down position but stay in the most upright position on the windshield rather than at the bottom when I attach the blades at the high point of motor rotation. What am I doing wrong ? In what position should the motor be in when the blades are attached ? Tried attaching in the lowest position of motor rotation and the wiper ends on the cowl grill . If I attach them in the highest position of motor rotation they end up opposite of where they should park I.e. corner of windshield . Suspect there is a midway point in motor rotation to attach but wanted to make sure as they are a PIA to get off and on the motor . I know the right side is the lowest in the final park position . Hope this makes some sense . As always appreciate your help . KReed ROA 14549
  6. A friend of mine is repairing a 71 riviera for a customer whose manifold was badly cracked and non- repairable apparently . He found one right after I posted the above . Thanks KReec ROA 14549
  7. Please ignore - problem solved . thanks KReed ROA 14549
  8. If anyone has a goodpassenger side exhaust manifold for 71 -73 Riviera 455, please let me know price and contact info. Many thanks , KReed ROA 14549
  9. This hole allows access to the lower screw on the wiper motor only . The upper two require contortions to get to but they are doable assuming hood and bracket to the wheel well are removed . Good luck KReed ROA 14549
  10. Highly recommend Jeremy Wemark in post above. KReed ROA 14549
  11. Thanks Gene - please send it along and let me know how much I owe you . If you have the correct bezel with it I would appreciate having it sent with it as well as the fader I have does not fit into my bezel easily / correctly . I know it’s a tight fit anyway . Thanks as always . Ken
  12. Need the correct fader for my 65 Riviera AM /FM radio if anyone has a good one . Thanks KReed ROA 14549
  13. I will have to gently disagree with you Winston . Looks like Bamboo Cream to me . The lighting is quite bad but in several shots it’s definitely a yellow car IMO. Not that it’s important anyway . KReed ROA 14549
  14. That is a bargain for someone . Good luck KReed ROA 14549
  15. If you need to send it for repair, I HIGHLY recommend Sam Coleman Classic Wipers , Travelers Rest , SC . Great guy with all the expertise . You might even wanna call him for advice before you pull it which is a challenge it and if itself . KReed ROA 14549
  16. Just saw Gerald Shuck’s post regarding the fuel sending unit door- perfection! KReed ROA 14549
  17. That’s what I’m talking about ! Outstanding . KReed ROA 14549
  18. All very good points , particularly engineers expected longevity of the cars at that time - I feel better now , kinda 😬. BP 130/72 . Appreciate everyone’s thoughts and agree heater core is right there on the unreachables. Re: Tom T’s two points ( eyes wide open ) : 1. Certainly agree that the gas tank can be completely removed w/o removing the muffler and therefore easy access to the sending unit . What you cannot do in my experience is safely remove the sending unit easily by simply releasing the straps and angling the tank down safely while on a support as it puts undue pressure on the neck of the tank . ( my muffler is in the correct position btw). 2. There is no “ access door “ in the left fender well on a 65 Riviera that I am aware of ( at least not in my two cars ) . If anyone has pictures of such an animal , it would be greatly appreciated .There is, however, an apparent factory made 2 “ hole in the upper fender well covered by a rubber grommet in both 65’s that allows access (with a socket and long extension ) to the lower bolt attaching the wiper motor to the firewall ( made easier by removing the left front tire). The other two bolts are somewhat accessible after removing the hood hinge and fender well bracket . BTW if anyone has ever removed the left front fender to gain access to a wiper motor AFTER spending hours putting in back on during a frame off restoration ( yes wiper motor was working perfectly when I put it in with fender off) , then you’re my hero for patients and persistence ! Thanks again for the conversation. KReed ROA. 14549
  19. I know Bill Mitchell had a major influence on the design of the first generation Riviera but what moron decided to put the wiper motor under the left fender and the fuel sending unit in an unreachable spot in the gas tank up against the trunk floor and essentially inaccessible w/ o taking out the muffler. Would it have been so hard to make a small door/plate in the left fender well ( like they did for the antenna motor on the right ) or a small door in the trunk floor right over the sending unit ? Smart designers seem to often overlook the obvious . I’m griping about this now as I have just been trying to fix both problems . Maybe someone knows a good reason for both and will chime in and maybe my blood pressure will go down a few notches 😀. Now I feel better. KReed ROA 14549

  21. Got the windshield motor out finally on my 65 and am here to tell you that it can be done without removing the fender thankfully. Getting in back in may be another story though. Here’s what I did to remove it ( curse words omitted) 1. Remove the hood ( 2 bolts on each side) 2. Remove the driver side hood bracket ( 3 bolts ) 3. Remove the DS fender to wheel well bracket ( 5 bolts ) 4. 3 - 5/16 screws hold the motor to the cowl - top two can be reached through the opening made by removing hood brackets ( lateral one is somewhat of a challenge 5. Remove front DS wheel - Bottom motor screw accessed by removing the rubber grommet from a factory made 3 inch hole in the upper DS wheel well using an 12 inch extension on the 5/16 socket ( pretty straight shot ) 6 .Remove all screws holding the wiper assembly (9 total) 7. After the screws holding the motor are removed , pull the motor forward off the cowl and remove nut holding assembly to motor 8. Assembly can then be removed with gentle persuasion ( I came out of the passenger side hole but suspect it might come out on DS as well Took me about an hour . My motor needs to be rebuilt and then the big challenge comes getting it back in ! Will let you know how it goes . If I had not got it out this way, I had already planned to be wiperless! I would not take my fender off again as it was a royal PITA to get on and gapped right ( grill, bumper , headlights , etc ) . Miller time ! KReed ROA 14549
  22. Hi Tom - sorry to say there is no plate on the inner fender well on either of my 65 Riv’s . One has a two inch hole which is rubber grommet plugged that barely allows me to see the motor but certainly no one to approach the screws on the motor . The other has nothing but solid sheet metal . Think I will go the hood route and see if I can get it resolved . As always thanks for your input . Ken KReec ROA 14549
  23. Thanks Tom and Bill - very frustrating to say the least . Appreciate your advice. Will keep you updated . KReed ROA 14549
  24. I have read all the threads I can find on the forum regarding the access to the wiper motor . Had mine rebuilt and it worked fine when I put in a few months ago as I was doing a frame off on my 65 GS . Naturally that was easy to do with the fenders and hood and cowl in full view . Just got everything put back together in my dash and wiring and stated the wiper and it was making a loud clanking noise in the assembly for some reason which I have yet to figure out. As I was trying to figure it out, the motor stopped suddenly and cannot be restarted - fuse is OK . Took the cowl plate off , assembly looks OK and moves like it should but obviously I can’t see the motor . How accessible is it if I take the hood and bracket to fender back off ( having spent hours getting it aligned ! ) . PLEASE tell me I don’t have to take the fender back off as my grill , bumper and headlights are exactly where I want them after literally spending days lining them up ! I am about ready to leave them non- functional if that is the case as I’m sure everyone who has done this knows . So very frustrating ! Whoever designed this wiper motor placement should be beat with a large stick and hung out to dry ! I have learned many valuable lessons over the last 20 months doing this restoration - main one being NEVER AGAIN ! Seriously would appreciate any thoughts knowing there is no easy answer . 25. I do not know the answer to that question but Jason or Tom can surely answer it. KReed ROA 14549
