  1. It's one of two that secure the metal bracket that holds the windlace in place and wraps around the kick panel at the front door jamb on a '65 (and presumably all first generations). #10 x 5/8" with a VERY FLAT and 1/2" wide phillips head. Already looked at Mr. G's and Allen's. Anybody have any take offs from a parts car get at me.
  2. Mike, Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question. Makes total sense and it's clear now why I was so perplexed by it.
  3. They're 5/8" if anyone else was wondering.
  4. I'm hoping some one can shed some LIGHT on this as I've been baffled thus far: 1. When removing the shifter plate, how do you detach the light? I feel like if I pull any harder than I have some thing will break. Twisting it doesn't seem to do anything either. 2. Where does the ash tray light mount? Mine was just dangling there inside the center console when I acquired the car. It seems that mounting it on something metal is what grounds it and makes it work properly but I can't seem to find a clip or anything that seems like it would mount onto. To be clear I'm referring to the front ash tray on the center console just below the heater/AC controls. There is only one drawing of it in the shop manual and it is not detailed enough to figure out what is going on. Photos may be the clearest answer but any help would be much appreciated.
  5. Does anyone know for sure which size socket the lights on the instrument cluster on a '65 take. I'm missing one and I see ones sized for 1/2" and 5/8" holes but I'm unclear as to where exactly to take the measurement. I tried eyeballing a 1/2" one at an AutoZone and it looked smaller than one that came out of my dash. The 5/8" size are not as readily available and are only available in quantities greater than one so I want to be sure before I place an order. I'm considering replacing all the bulbs with LED's too.
  6. Does anyone have a photo of what the package shelf offered from Cars, Inc./OldBuickParts.com for the 1st generation Rivieras looks like installed. Their website doesn't have an adequate photo and I tried contacting them to see if they have any but they do not. Not going to deal with OPGI and the Clark's one, I'm sure is nice, but 3 times the cost.
  7. Hey! Check it out: http://forums.aaca.org/showthread.php?t=384880&p=1374337#post1374337
  8. Before: After: Thanks to Clark's Corvair for the carpet, cardboard and vinyl. And, thanks to Pete Lempert (http://forums.aaca.org/f177/63-trunk-vinyl-covered-cardboard-380672.html) for all the help and advice.
  9. That is understood. What do I use to attach it though? If there is a screw or some kind of trim fastener that once held it in place, it is long gone on my vehicle and I am wondering if some one can provide me with a photo or a part number that would be a suitable replacement.
  10. I don't understand why any of this matters. Both cuts (with or without remote release) have the holes I mentioned. It seems to fit just fine. Let's leave it at that. What I'm trying to figure out is what piece of hardware to use as a fastener to secure the fold in place. Wondering if anyone has a part number (or even a photo) for a trim fastener/retainer that is a good fit for this particular set of holes.
  11. I got the cardboard set from Clark's. They only have one style/cut (which seems to match OPGI's cut for the remote release). Either way it seems to fit mine and both cuts have the holes that line up when folded.
  12. My trunk resto project is well under way and I've run into one more question: On the piece that covers latch there are two holes that match up when you fold it into place and there is one more on the top panel to the right of the latch. What did you use in the holes that secure the fold and are any of those holes used to affix to the trunk metal? I just spoke to Clark's and they didn't have an answer for me and my original trunk cardboard was long gone by the time I acquired the vehicle so I'm working a little blind here.
  13. My thoughts exactly. Nothing is really rotted out, just a few patches that I want to arrest any further corrosion and the cups, from the underside and what I can poke around from above with my finger, seem pretty solid.
  14. Kaber, Thanks for that. Those photos help a lot in knowing exactly what it is that I can't see. Still going to try to patch it with fiberglass but now I'm not working quite as blind.
  15. Is there a way to tell if I have a busted rear window seal without removing the glass? Pour some water at the bottom of the window and see if anything shows up in the trunk?
  16. Also, glad that Eastwood was mentioned. I have a couple of their products on order (Fast Etch and Pre Painting Prep) which will be my first line a of attack in treating this.
  17. Good point and I will, although I don't think it is. The reason why is hard to explain and impossible to get a photo of but it seems that what is under the hole is some kind of cavity and doesn't just open up to underneath the chassis. The reason being is that absolutely no daylight comes through and as far as I can stick my finger in there it seems to be an enclosed cavity of panels. I'll try to get a better shot of it tomorrow in the daylight and post another.
  18. I'm in the midst of restoring the trunk in my '65 Rivi. This car is my daily driver, runs great but has some interior issues that were neglected by previous owners that need attention. I have spent the last few days with a powered wire brush cleaning off the trunk panels, brushing off the adhesed foam, smoothing out the scratched paint, and chipping off a bunch of filler that some one did a hack job lining all the seems with. So far so good the only major issue I have come across is in the photo. Two spots of corrosion. I have not come across any major rust other than surface rust anywhere else on the vehicle. My plan is to patch these two holes with fiberglass. I have ground down the rust back as far as I can but one of the holes, most of the corrosion is between the trunk panel and whatever panel is underneath it and hard to get to. I welcome any and all advice from any of you who have experience dealing with this sort of thing and if any one recommends a particular fiberglass kit. I think the most suitable one I can find so far is the Bondo Fiberglass Resin Jelly Kit: http://bondo.com/431-bondo-fiberglass-resin-jelly-kit.html My plan is to re-carpet and re-cardboard the trunk so these panels will not be visible but I'm going to primer them to hopefully curb any further corrosion.
  19. Awesome! Thanks for all the info. Hope to have some photos up of mine in a couple weeks or so.
  20. I have recently embarked on essentially the exact same project. You have given me inspiration and a level of detail to aspire to. I have a few more questions: 1. Is the carpet glued down? If so what did you use for an adhesive? 2. You got the cardboard from OPGI and the carpet from Clark's. Any reason for NOT getting them both from Clark's? 3. This is actually the first time I've seen a photo of what looks like the PROPER way to secure the jack in it's place. Is that the original spring holding it in there or did you find a suitable replacement. If the latter where did you get it and what are the specs? 4. What did you do with the edge of the vinyl? Wrap it around the cardboard an inch or so around the perimeter? Any stapling involved? Also, Now that I know they exist, I'm looking for 8 of those cardboard clips so if anyone has any leads please let me know.
  21. All set on the Rallye wheels. Thanks for everyone's help.
