  1. She's blasted, primed, and back on the frame! Up next: welding in new floor pans!
  2. Thanks! I appreciate that. 🙂
  3. Thanks Ben! I've got a rebuilt, original-style master cylinder installed. I have been debating adding power steering and power brakes, but haven't decided yet. Any thoughts?
  4. I'm still here! Babylife has been keeping me busy, but I have made some progress on the Buick in these past 4 months... 😉 The engine and transmission have been mounted and the body, doors, and panels are ready for the mobile media blaster. I'm planning to have that done in January. After that's finished, everything will be primed and the floors will be cut out and replaced. Then, we'll paint the bottom and put the body back on the frame. 🙂 I've also included a photo of my little helper, wearing his favorite onesie. 😛
  5. Thanks for the advice Pete. I appreciate it. 🙂
  6. My interior trim code is also 64. I understand that to mean gray cloth, gray headliner.
  7. Yeah, I'm missing all of that stainless door trim. Dang it. 😕 Does anyone out there have a set of door panels for a 51' Super that they aren't using / don't need?
  8. Thanks! Close ups of the doors would be very helpful. Is your headliner original?
  9. Hello Pete. Thank you for the insight! I see what you're talking about on the doors... Here's how the interior looked when I purchased the car. The doors, visors, pillars, and seats are in excellent condition. I'd like to use as much of it as possible, to save some money and just enjoy the car. As a side note, I've also got a '55 Cadillac coupe restoration going that's going to be VERY expensive to complete. Any money saved on the Buick will be diverted there. So, what would you recommend, given what I've got to work with? The interior is more blue than green. These photos are a bit deceptive.
  10. Hello Everyone! I'm restoring a 1951 Buick Super Riv. sedan. According to the data plate, the interior should be gray cloth, but what I have is this grayish blue (more decorative) fabric. I'm guessing that this was done sometime in the 80's or early 90's. The interior is in really nice condition, so I'm planning to put it back into the car as-is to save a little money; just replacing the carpets and headliner. I need to know what fabric style / color this is before ordering a replacement headliner. I'd also like to know what color carpet would have come with this interior color. When I purchased the car, the carpets were black aftermarkets. The headliner matched the seats and side panels exactly. This could be completely custom, but I have a feeling that it's a period correct kit, just based on the fit of the original headliner and door panels. Any assistance that you guys could provide would be most appreciated!
  11. Thanks for all the advice and support! I'll take another crack at it this evening and report back. 🙂
  12. A good friend and I tinkered with the Buick tonight and there appears to be damage to a few of the splines, preventing the shaft from going in. I’ll be filing them down and working to get them back into shape tomorrow. With any luck, it’ll do the trick.
  13. I've replaced the torque ball seal. That much is all back together.
  14. Well, I've spent all day trying to make this work and it just won't. The spline will not slide in, as described. No angle or adjustment seems to matter. The only thing I can assume it that the spline is damaged, even though it looks fine. I'm not sure what to do.
  15. Thank you for the reply! Mine is the Dynaflow automatic. Any recommendations for lining up the torque tube? I have the rear end disconnected, as it says to do in the book. It’s on a floor jack so it’s still mobile without allowing the wheels to spin the shaft. I spent a solid hour trying to line it up with no success. 😞 I ordered a seal kit for the torque ball housing and it came with 2 matching paper seals, and three additional paper seals, but different colors and much thinner. No instructions. Finally, does the copper bowl use a seal against the transmission? 😛
  16. Hey guys. I’ve got a question, or two... So, I've spent most of the day mounting the engine and transmission to the frame in my 51'. I'm having some trouble mounting the torque tube to the rear of the transmission. The book suggests that the spline should just slide in, but that's not been my experience. Perhaps I don't have everything lined up properly? I’d also like to get some clarification on proper assembly of the torque ball... What gets sealed, what gets lubricated prior to assembly, etc. Are there any oil channels that need special attention? The book is very vague on the subject. 😕 Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance! - Joseph
  17. The front suspension is finally done. 😊 Engine and transmission go in tomorrow!
  18. Well, would you look at that! 😎🛑
  19. I'll be doing the chrome on my 51' Super soon. How did you get it looking so good?
  20. Wowee! Beautiful car! Your chrome work looks fantastic. I love the look of that script on the trunk!
  21. Wow! Nice Buick and lots of progress! How much power are you expecting from this new drivetrain? What's your plan for the interior? Also, I'm jealous of that MEGAshop! 😛
  22. Spindles are back from the machine shop! Wilwood disc brakes go on this weekend! Here's a diagram of the conversion, for those of you interested.
  23. More progress! The spindles need to be honed before they can be put back on. The distributor is rebuilt and ready for instal. Electronic ignition will be added after the engine is back on the frame.
  24. Got the parking brake cleaned and painted tonight, along with a few other odds and ends. Yes, I know it's not supposed to be black. Originality police, arrest me. 😛
  25. More parts cleaning tonight! The heater core is done and most of the distributor parts are cleaned. Hoping to have the distributor back together by the weekend. I've been going through the shop and storage rooms, just cleaning and painting any parts that I can find. It's getting harder and harder to find unrestored parts, which must mean that we're getting close. 🙂
