1953 Studebaker Champion VS 1953 Pontiac Chiefton
Hans1965 replied to Matt129's topic in General Discussion
I never really liked the Studebakers of this era, to me the typical small European like coupe, special maybe for that reason. The Pontiacs have a huge presence, at least for me.... But I am European and like these big GM cars partly for their sheer size, the Pontiacs for their Indian theme, the hood ornament etc.... -
1953 Studebaker Champion VS 1953 Pontiac Chiefton
Hans1965 replied to Matt129's topic in General Discussion
I never owned a Stude, but my 52 Pontiac is a wonderful, very reliable car, that gets a lot of attention. The straight eight is a smooth running engine and the hydramatic just perfect with it. Brakes are really good on these cars, too, and the silver streak theme makes these cars outstanding.... But it depends on if you want to drive or wrench in the first place. I miss the cars most that I didn't buy or gave up on. To have one classic you can enjoy already while you work on another, that's what I would do. For me the driving experience is the thing. -
1948 Buick Super Convertible (Nipomo CA) - $20,000
Hans1965 replied to Reynard's topic in "Not Mine" Automobiles For Sale
This kind of car is still on my list but this one is not talking to me. The paint looks dull and the interior color is just not mine. 20k is still a bargain. Paid for my 49 Super convertible 15k though. -
1949 Lincoln 2 Dr Coupe - $13,800 (LOVELAND CO)

The car looks so clean and then you see the engine compartment and think what happened here, flash flood? How can the dirt hit the air cleaner even? -

Ferrari wins Le Mans 24 hour race for the first time in 58 year

I can clearly say, I wasn't there. 🤣 What's your source? But, honestly, the whole thing is really not important. -

First winner in 1923 drove a Chenard & Walker, in 1924 a Bentley won. Sorry for nitpicking. -
A ‘39, a ‘48, a ‘49 and a ‘50 Roadmaster for sale
Hans1965 replied to MrEarl's topic in Buick - Buy/Sell - Not Mine
The 49 Roadmaster is for sure worth saving. The others, hmmmm. But the 49 is really something. I would love to own one, but this car needs a thorough inspection or it needs to be cheap, or better both. 😏 -
Which year hood hinge is this? 1949 or 1950?
Hans1965 replied to Pete Phillips's topic in Buick - Post War
In my 49 the hole is in the corner. 👍 -
I consider to buy an Olds 403 engine for my 1981 Firebird base model currently with the V6 that is available at my place. Is this Olds 403 engine so much worse than the Pontiac 400 or what makes the 400 superior? Really interested to hear. Thanks.

But do you want that on a wiper motor? Isn't that the reason to switch to an electric one? That it is giving you more safety? I have not converted any of my other 6 volt cars. The vacuum wiper motors are a little sluggish at idle, but good enough at speed, at least for me.

Has the W72 400. Maybe it was later added to the description.

This is such a cool original car. All these little things, the Pontiac emblems everywhere, the hood ornament with the 8, the side curtains, the FDR emblem, the little oil can in the engine compartment and the Pontiac symbol on the engine block, the fantastic dashboard, the heater and honestly I love the personal add ons like the pillow that makes it even more lovely. What a wonderful car!

A few years back I checked with Newport. They only made 12 V motors at that time. If you want to switch to electric you need to buy a 6 V to 12 V converter on top which cost me as much as the Newport motor and needs to be hidden under the dashboard. Unfortunately Newport advertises that there wiper motors fit to 6 V cars but that is only mechanically, not voltage wise. There is always a little note that says 12 V only. I think that is at least a little misleading.
