  1. I dont know, but every single piece of chrome needs to be replated on the car. Big money! It is only a Series 61, not 62. Seats are for sure incorrect. Surface rust on the frame or floors, okay, but here it is everywhere. No fun. They can tell my grandma it was always garaged. It is obvious it wasn't. Engine redone and then it looks like this? I give them credit for the fact that it looks rather complete. Air cleaner might be under the garbage. Here there is not one alarm bell, there are millions. The red 48 Ser 62 coupe I am in now for 10 grand, although partly dismantled, is the far better deal. Value the same as the 49s.
  2. I feel sorry for the car. Stuck with the same family for more than 70 years that does not give a damn....
  3. I enjoy so much driving my 49 Buick Super convertible in summer. People are stunned and highly impressed. There is no jealousy, these cars are highly sympathetic and just a symbol of a different time when style, grace and manners ment something.
  4. Al, thanks for the message. This 49 screams coolness! The wheels are amazing! My poor vehicle has an outside visor, too, and the vent shades, but only one of the skirts. But mine is customized by the factory with these incredible chevrons underneath the tail lights. I love that gimmic. I am not a big fan of removing the hood and trunk crest. These are so distinctive and beautiful. There are tons of money in that 49. I do mine on a budget.
  5. Fantastic car, I simply love the interior! This old wrinkled juicy leather has seen a lot of butts. Just gorgeous. Expensive? Of course. If you have the money, why not. Drive in style.
  6. About the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. I lived the best year of my life in San Diego, when I worked at the Scripps Research Institute there. Had the luck to work for a future double Noble price winner in chemistry. But the real star was the city, the beaches and the Hotel del Coronado. Sunday morning brunch in the crown room of the hotel with some friends. Unforgettable.
  7. I paid 10 grand for mine with really original interior. Steering wheel is correct. 47 had the marble like steering wheel, 48 the black one that was used until 53.
  8. Just a few weeks back I told myself, I never buy a car that is possibly incomplete, needs paint and an interior. And then I saw this. If you mean the easy work is the dismantling, right. But a project car that moved at least three times for sure there are more missing parts waiting to be discovered. Now I am in it.
  9. Rodney, you are so right! And that's a good question! I like the color, but it's flaking off everywhere. The windows are out anyway, the firewall is more-or-less clean, so this is ideal to paint it again. It had been gray, but I would go for black. Otherwise I keep it bone stock. We recently discussed here a black 48/49 coupe that was totally good but hotroded by somebody. No, no, no, that's not my way. I want to bring my car back to former glory. This design is so outstanding, the cars needs nothing else. I hope I get it done. The former owner had it for 8 years and the two owners before him died with the car.
  10. Hi Roger, good to here from you. Thanks for the encouragement. The unknown engine condition gave me two sleepless nights, but over time I am ready to take more risks. Or I believe more in myself. I don't know. Always good to get help here. I am curious about the famous flathead in the 48 and if it is really idling so smooth. My two sunken Buicks, the 49 Riviera and the 52 Super Riviera are succesfully revived and need only the final touches. Currently putting a new interior into the 49. Looks incredible. That's why I feel ready for something new. The 56 transmission is still my big worry due to the size of the car. Hope I get to it soon.
  11. You know I buy cars mostly because of their looks. And it must have an engine. 🤣 The design of the 48/49th is just breath taking. Of the 4 fastback versions, 61 and 62 in each year, I wanted exactly that 48 series 62 because of the chevrons under the rear lights and the side trim. Call me crazy. I can deal with that. 😁 Hey and by the way, can anway here spare a 49 Buick Roadmaster Sedanet? 😁🤩
  12. I tried to contact this guy a few weeks back. Never replied. Asked a friend in the US to get in touch with him. Same result. Now I spent my money elsewhere. I think the Torpedo has a slightly different shape of the fastback rear end compared to the streamliner, making it a little clumsy. I think the slightly longer Streamliner looks better, more elegant. 6 or 8 cylinders, who wants 6?
  13. I did! It freightens me a little, but what is life with no thrills. If this is over my capabilities, I have a nice paper weight to look at. 🤣
  14. Okay, I confess, it is not a Buick. After 5 Buicks in a row I had to buy this. It is in a miserable state, engine condition unknown. But it is an iconic car and supposed to be rustfree. Most of the outer and inner trim is there, the glass as well as the mechanicals of the engine compartment. I always wanted a 1948 Cadillac Ser. 62 Club Coupe. Now I got one. Please keep your fingers crossed that this will not be my biggest nightmare. To buy sight unseen is always a gamble but that's my only chance and the seller is really a very nice guy. I guess there is only a handful, if at all, in Europe.
  15. Thanks a lot for the reply. This morning I let the seller know I am going to come over, a 3 h drive, as we had discussed before. He was not reachable anymore, not by WhatsApp, email or phone. Left a voice message, nothing. In the late afternoon he came back and said he has corona...
  16. This car appears now in the Netherlands and is for sale at Eur 16.000. Does anybody know more about this car? I might have a look tomorrow...
  17. Absolutely stunning car. I love the color combination. You guys with driving experience on them, how does it drive compared to a 40s or 50s cars? My oldest is a 47 Super sedanet.
  18. A few years back I came to know a dealer in Paris, Kentucky, selling a 49 Buick Roadmaster Riviera and 2 49 Super convertibles, one with Dynaflow, the other 3 speed manual. I was only interested in the Riviera and bought that one. Then I told my brother what I had done and he said are you nuts? Why you didn't buy a convertible. You do have 5 hardtops and no convertible. Okay, bought one of the convertibles, package deal. The convertible is on the road since 4 years, the Riv is not. Regret that I didn't buy the 2nd convertible. 😂 Usually I prefer the early 50s hardtops over convertibles because I love the design of the roof and the side windows. The convertibles are just cut off hardtops, missing so many design features and they just look clumsy. But my 49 convertible is the most beautiful clumsy convertible I can think off.... Sorry to say.
  19. Hi Dan, what's the price range of your car? Do you have an engine picture? I guess so.... Thanks
  20. Very very nice. Sometimes I believe I was born at the wrong place. Soooo jealous!!!!
