  1. I had 2 options for the bumper - paint it black or try the chrome powder coat. I simply have no desire to put much more money in this thing. I bought it for fun....to learn new things and to enjoy driving it to the grocery store on Sarurdays to pick up beers and steaks for the grill. It definitely is not chrome....looks more like silver paint.....but I like it. It is more chrome-like than black paint.
  2. Dang, I just thought I knew something about these old cars. Compared to you, I know nothing! Sounds like a good parts car. I kept gonig back to the picture of the passenger side rear wheel. It looks too small and/or off centered. I thought maybe the car is on jack stand or something but not sure why it would be on a trailer and jacked up. I called the owner last night and got a little info on it. The guy that owns it has only had it a few months. It had been in his neighbor's barn since the '70s. The owner died and this guy bought it as the estate sale to flip. So he knows nothing about the car. I asked if he knew if the engine had been rebuilt or just cleaned and pained and he had no idea. It's no longer listed on ebay but you can still see the pictures. The guy that had listed it on ebay for the owner said he is done messing with the car but sent me a message with the owners name and number. I don't know if other ebay users can also see that message with the number or not. If anyone needs the number I will get it and send it to them. If someone wants to buy it for parts I will give $1500 for the wheels, engine and transmission.....and $200 for the generator. Everything else would be yours. He is asking $3250 so you'd end up with the chassis and a lot of parts for $1,550.
  3. So this is off the market...but I have a line on it. I do t want the body.....but would like the drive train. Anyone interested in going in with me for parts?
  4. Thanks for posting that. My 2 are 765,956 and 709,768 and I finally why they have different engines....based on serial numbers they should both be type C engines. This is the first time I have seen the caveat that they overlapped the B and C engines. Having spent 29 in aerospace I am appalled at the lack of configuration management. :-). As a vintage car fan I feel like an archeologist searching for historical truth and I just found a gem!
  5. I thought maybe it was different model coupe than mine. It has side windows behind the doors, mine do not. And yes, trunk is much different. Nice catch on the door hinges..
  6. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1926-Dodge-Other-/181897214232?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=PH1hatdQPBAQ5QevFBTLZvnJVEQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc I can't believe this didn't sell. This looks like a good deal. I have 2 DB Coupe projects and just can't take on another project right now. Best advice I ever read for vintage car is, "buy someone else's project". Most of the difficul and expensive work has been done. I'm still on the fence with this car.....
  7. There a centrifugal timing advance mechanism in my distributor that as advances (or maybe retards) the timing as the engine speeds up. There are 2 springs that keep the wings of the centrifuge assembly pulled in tight until the desired speed is reached. I read in the book of knowledge (or whatever it's called) that these springs can get week over time and should be replaced. 1. Does anyone know where I could find replacement springs? Myers does not show them on their website. 2. I found a spring company that will make any spring you need per your specs. My guess is 20 springs will cost slightly more than 2 springs. Is anyone else interested in getting these two springs? Anyone know if the specs on the spring is documented somewhere? If not, a micrometer will be ok. Need to measure the wire size, diameter, number of turns, types of hooks etc. Let me know if you are interested in going in on getting these custom made. I've also been in contact with Myers to see if they would like to order some if I have them custom made. ~Mike
  8. What do you mean when you say 'wood body'? I have wood supporting my rear window and a wood roof and a little wood in the doors and the floors are wood and there is wood behind the seat in front of the trunk. And there is a little wood on the back of the door frame. But the vast majority of the car is metal. Here is some wood that I replaced in my '26 Coupe. I guess you could consider this structural....
  9. My '27 Coupes have wood in the doors but it doesn't appear to be structrual. The only wood I in the doors at the bottom of the window opening and holds the bottom on the window frame with 3 or 4 screws. How much is he getting the Coupe for? I paid $6,500 for one of mine and $6,000 for the other one. Neither one of them ran. Mine were build it Jul '26 and Sept '26 so I call them 1926 but I've been told they were 1927 Models for whatever that is worth.
  10. ....there is no telling what secrets they hold.
  11. What else can I say? It's that time of the year....
  12. Wish you'd of told me this before I started! :-). Looks like I got the wrong valves from Myers. They said they'd take them back. Mechanic said he can get them but will see if he can grind these.
  13. My wife had a horse saddle custom made by the Amish. The tree (inner structure) broke and made the saddle worthless. Most modern saddles are build around a fiberglass tree.
  14. Haven't tried it yet. Package came in and I had to go out of town.....I took the jerkey me but put the Vegimite in the fridge. Nothe jerkey was good!
  15. Understand. This has been a wonderful learning experience for me. I probably spent /wasted a lot of money I didn't need to but it's just money. Can't take it with me. I'm having fun an learning. Much rather spend money on this than on green fees and bass boats. I trust the mechanic....for the most part. I think he thinks I am rich though. Last rebuild I pulled the plug at $4k and finished myself. My hope is he will come in under $2k. Since I provided the parts. I'm already upside down on this car. Into it about $10k. Prolly worth $7500 IF it were running.
  16. Mark, got the package of really cool Australian stuff! Thanks brother! Very cool!!
  17. I got everything except the pistons. When my mechanic measures thing he will let me know and I will have Myers send them directly to him.
  18. I really didn't want to have to try to pull the engine. I don't have the equipment to pull the engine. I like what you are saying but since I will probably only put 100 miles a year on the car, my hope is it will last another 10 or 15 years till I give it to my son or grandson.....then they can have it seriously rebuilt. :-)
  19. I don't know. I don't even know what questions to ask. What does this mean anyway? So Myers has 3 sizes of Pistons with rings....(0.030, 0.040 and 0.060). At the risk of sounding stupid, is that the bearing inserts or is that the oversize of the pistons themselves or is that different size piston and rings. Only engine I ever rebuilt was a 4 cylindar Farmall Cub tractor. You could get oversized inserts for the connector rods to account for wear on the cam shaft. I wasn't sure if they is was the same thing? Myers shows a picture of the piston but doesn't show the connector rod so IDK if that comes with the pistons or not?
  20. I am having the engine rebuild for my '26 DB coupe? I bought the parts - pistons, rings, valves, valve guides, valve springs, piston pins and gasket set - to the tune of about $1k from Myers and provided them to the mechanic. The mechanic will sent the head out to a machinst to be checked for cracks and machined flat. He will do all dissambly and resassembly. (The last time he did a rebuild he had to cut the exhaust off and then weld a sleeve to couple it back together.) He will adjust the valves and hone the cylindars, adjust the carb (if necessary), set/adjust the points, etc. He charges $80/hr. Given that I provided most of the parts how much will the rebuild cost? Take your best guess (of what it should cost) and I will put the actual cost when I get the bill.
  21. It took 2 months for my local glass company to get the laminated glass but I finally got it back today. They set the glass for me and it looks awesome. Spent the last few hours getting it reinstalled. Only one trip to Lowes to get some different screws because what I had bought did not work. Then spent 20 minutes looking for where I put the support arms. Nice feeling of progress. The passenger side window was plexiglass so I ripped it out and got 1/4" glass cut and edged. I will work on that tomorrow.
  22. I just use Liquid Wrench. Good stuff poted here. I usually get impatient....and get a hammer......tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, KAPLUNK! Aww sh**!

  24. Nothing to see here....move along.... What is it about us that we see a thread marked 'delete' and we can't help but open it up? Maybe we just wanted to confirm it really was deleted? :-)
