  1. I am looking for a set of brackets for the front bumper on my '35 527T.  I believe these are the same brackets for other models with the two piece bumpers that form a slight "V"  shape where they join.  Anyone out there have these?  I would also be interested in borrowing a set to use as a pattern to fabricate a set for myself.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Steve

  2. just getting my 35 527T running again after 10 years or so in storage.  A few steps into the ordeal,, I replaced the dead battery.  Excited to start 'er up, turned the key, pressed the starter button...nuttin.  Got out the voltage tester and started tracing wires.  All hot under the hood, so I started under the dash.  Being extremely tight (honestly not too fat!) so I removed the front seat...surprise, surprise!!!  Another battery under the floorboard!  Say what?????

Tested the voltage and, you're right...zippo.

Just made it back from purchasing another battery...about $250 spent on batteries alone...grrr.

Anyway, why two batteries?  I know Hup's were noted for their reliability and all, but...???  Anyway, gonna hook up the new one tomorrow and see if I get fire!

Is this model just a weird one, or is this more common that I knew?

  3. going thru the tasks to finally get my 527T running.  This a.m. I installed a spanking new battery, climbed in and gave the key a turn...nothing!  Key kind of free-wheels (no spring tension for instance).  Looked for a floor starter button...nothing again.  Before I start examining the wiring and such...does someone know how this car is supposed to be started?

  4. Well for starters pictures and color schemes for the interior---I have no upholstery and no front seat structure also would like to confirm that originalially this car was 6 or 12 volt system???

    2. front right brake drum

    3. spare tire cover (continental kit type)

    4. radiater cap

    5. Hup medal front above grill

    5. front headlight glass

    6. rear tail light lense (and housing)

I have some spare parts---generator--Auto Lite GBK 4604, Transmission with gear shift and others I havent envintoried yet (I've only had this guy 20 years!)

How do I post pictures here?

I've found a great resource, not only for hard to find parts, but for technical information....contact Dave Romani at studiehupp<wbr style="color: rgb(119, 119, 119); font-family: 'normal arial', sans-serif; font-size: 12.222222328186px;">@aol.com

  5. Great Pictures! Started me wondering...it appears from the pictures that the front and rear bumpers and spare tire cover from 418's and 518's might be able to fit my 35 527T...so I'm expanding my search to obtain bumpers from anyone who has same from a 418 or 518. Production volume in those years might provide a better source for parts. Anyone have these parts for sale, or can anyone suggest whom I might contact? Thanks, Steve

  6. Hi "British" old car folks!

I am a new forum member from Australia.

I have three old British cars:-

1928 Morris Cowley Roadster (In pieces)

    1932 Austin Seven sedan (restored)

    1950 Austin A40 tourer (original)

I also have a restored 1926 Chrysler that I have already pictured in Chrysler/Mopar forum.

Hello down under! I just ran across your post. I am restoring three cars that may be of interest to you...a 1958 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, a 1935 Hupmobile 527T (manufactured for Australian market and owned there until 2002 when it was purchased and shipped to U.S.), and a 1935 Austin Seven Pearl Cabriolet. I noticed the picture of your Austin Seven (nice!) and wondered if you knew of any Australian Austin Seven clubs, associations, etc. I am always on the lookout for interesting cars and, as you no doubt know very well, always in the market for quality spares for these lovely automobiles. I would be interested in obtaining any helpful information from you regarding auto restoration and spares in Australia! BTW, visited Sydney for a week's Rest and Recuperation while in Viet Nam in the early 1970's. Loved it! Thanks, Steve

  7. got the email and replied via gmail. Just in case...These look like the right ones. I only need one, but will purchase two if necessary. Email me with details regarding payment (prefer check or paypal...posting credit card info here or via email can be scary). Thanks, Steve

  8. I read that a gentleman in Auburn, IN had purchased a warehouse full of NOS Hup parts. I tried to email him HupmobileGraham@aol.com, but got a kick-back as an unknown address. Further research revealed that the gentleman passed away in 2013. Anyone know a good email address or website to get info, or did this enterprise die with the owner? Thanks, Steve

  9. I have hubcaps that fit the artillery wheel. I don't have any other parts and am looking for a few things myself (bumpers, headlight bezels, spare tire cover). I ordered these hubcaps by mistake. I have wire wheels with a smaller hubcap. If you're interested in these, send me your email address (this site won't let me upload higher res pics)

  10. OK, here are three pics of wire wheel, hubcap and inner diameter measure. They are for my 35 527T. However, I believe other years and other models had the same hubcaps, correct? In any case I am looking for 4 that fit my car. Any help, suggested resources, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I also have better pics that can be sent via a conventional email program (gmail, hotmail, etc). File size limited on this site.

  11. I have five (5) Hupmobile hubcaps for sale. Four are in good condition (minor small dents and scratches). One is rough (several large dents and scratches). Dimensions: inner ridge diameter is 7", outer ridge (chrome skin) is 8 1/2." Not sure of the model match...not for 527T though. Pictures available upon request. $600 + shipping. Steve

  12. Just purch a couple of "stop gap" bumpers for my Hupmobile 527T. Didn't realize the authentic bumpers would be impossible to find. Anyway, when I restored a 53 Jag 120 in Colorado a number of years ago, I took the body to a place that dipped it in a large tank, which removed paint, primer, bondo and rust. Came out totally clean.

I live in VA now and have a 58 Rolls Silver Cloud 1 and the Hupmobile. I want to find a service that can clean a part down to bare metal, or find a good product that will remove rust, starting with the bumpers I just purch (note: I know chroming companies can do the job, but I'm probably just going to paint these to save $$$ until I can find the authentic ones).

    Can anyone help?

    Steve

  13. enjoy the conversation. As for casting, I wouldn't be looking to make absolutely down to the micrometer replicas, just something that would look fairly good to get folks by as a temporary stopgap. However, you make some good points, particularly re: type of metal. Then of course is the issue of tinsel strength....for sure would want something that would actually behave like a bumper.

As for the plastic parts, I have found quite a few chrome shops that say they chrome plastic. Haven't looked into the details. As for your bezels, I think any in reasonable dimensional shape would work as something to model via cad-cam or whatever is used to create the file. Pits and other minor irregularities are not an issue.

I have just purchased 4 "reasonably good condition" hubcaps, so I might use one as a test for replication via 3D, just to see how (if) it works.

Of course, would be interested in either side of the front bumper. If you have a point of contact, I would be in your debt (a beer perhaps?). Steve

  14. Another member came up with a couple of good ideas...3D print the bezels (not too familiar with what can be done with this process, e.g. plastic or metal too?). Another idea, get a good bezel and make a mold to make more and more and more bezels....cast in some kind of metal (more familiar with this process as I'm a sculptor and have done this a few times in bronze). In any case, could you possibly send me a bezel (on loan only), so I can try these two techniques to see if I can get something worth putting on a car?

could also work with the bumpers, albeit the size makes it more of a challenge, but casting new parts is certainly doable.

  15. Have you ever thought about having the headlight bezels cast,

or reproduced on a 3-D printer, from excellent originals which a

    club member might lend you?

I'm not an expert on such a topic, but I thought my two cents might help---

two very good ideas...wouldn't have thought of either myself. I will definitely look into them! Thanks, Steve.
