  1. Does any one have a close up photo of the timing marks on a 1936 Dodge D2. It appears when the timing was marked at 4 degrees BTDC and it's supposed to be 4 degrees ATDC. It's very difficult to see but a close up would be helpful. Thank you
  2. I have always checked the timing with the motor running and the vacuum advance hose plugged. I mark the 4 A.T.D.C. on the crankshaft pulley and rotate the distributor until it coincides with the timing light. Is that the same in a sense? I'm not quite sure what you mean. Call me dense I guess.
  3. I haven't checked the timing on my 36 Dodge D2 in awhile. The timing is supposed to be 4 A.T.D.C. Is there a specific r.p.m.?
  4. Thank you both for the input. I added another quart which brought it up not quite to the full mark. There is some oil in the filter housing which would make it 6 quarts.
  5. Thank you for the photos, especially the throttle knobs.
  6. Thank you. I'm trying to determine how many quarts to use. Somewhere I saw 5 quarts but can't seem to find it in my manual. Anyway, I added approximately a quart to the filter with the new filter in and 4 quarts to crankcase. I checked it this morning after running it yesterday for leaks and it shows a quart low. I know that adding to much oil can cause it to foam which is not good for lubricating the main bearings.
  7. I'm not sure if this applies but on my 36 D2 Sedan the rear drums are tapered. You need a special puller so you don't distort the drum.
  8. Thank you for the photos. The knobs look awesome. I looked up D @ D and look like they are still in business. When I restored the Dodge I did everything myself except for the paint job, replating or polishing the exterior parts and the interior; headliner, seats etc. Everything came out like the original except for the dash knobs and door handle knobs. The dash knobs were replaced with knobs which are quite similar without the rings and letters. There is one knob that I assume is a throttle knob but isn't marked and has only a metal pull knob. I use it to keep the idle up a bit while warming up the car. I did manage to find one letter and ring. I'll have to search in my left over parts they gave me if there are more.
  9. I appreciate the replies on the motor oil question but I forgot to ask if anyone knows where I can get the original dash knobs or someone who can make replicas.
  10. Thank you for your information. As far as I know it this was the first time the engine had been rebuilt.
  11. I have a 1936 Dodge D2 Sedan which my late wife and I finished doing a ground up restoration in 2006. We drove it around occasionally until she passed away 2 years later. Since then it has been parked in my garage and ever so often when my children come to visit we take it for a little spin. I was thinking of changing the oil and filter before my brother comes to visit since it has been sitting so long but I can't recall if I used a 30wt non detergent or detergent motor oil. It does have a oil filter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  12. I have a 1936 Dodge d2. Seems to run rough at about 35mph. Not sure if it's the driveshaft or tires.I checked the compression on each hole 2 thru 5 @100lbs. Number 1 was 95lbs.Any suggestions would be appreciated
  13. I live in Southern California and I'm looking for suggestions for classic car repair in Southern California. I have a 1936 Dodge d2. Thanks in advance for any
  14. thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I have only 1 light knob with the letter L and ring. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  15. 😂 I'm looking for the original dash knobs or if someone knows where I can have replicas made
  16. anyone know where I can have my driveshaft balance in Southern California
  17. Can antifreeze/coolant be used in a 1936 Dodge and is there a specific water to coolant ratio?
  18. I don't know if this will help but on my 36 Dodge I've got dual horns and they didn't work after I installed the second horn and wired it up. I eventually found out that the inline fuse was bad even though visually the fuse looked fine.
  19. Curti. I did the light show last nite. There was some minor arcing at the spark plug bracket but number 1 was definitely a show. I didn't realize it was laying against the thermostat housing. Thanks for the tip.
  20. Tha.no you. I've set it at 550 -600 rpm
  21. Thanks. That's what I thought but couldn't find any specs in my manual.
