  1. The HCCA and AACA Tours are really nice, a lot of very unique cars. How about the non-tour events, say 1-2 day shows or events in old historic towns or areas around the country which cater to the older cars from before the 1950's? Anyone been to any of these events that maybe are hidden gems, perhaps not well known but are must see events for old car enthusiasts? I am sure everyone would love the input from anyone who knows of some of these.
  2. For the last few years, we have been going to the Old Car Festival at Greenfield Village (pre 1932 cars only). Events like this allow car owners to display their older cars in a neat setting with similar cars, then drive your car around. In the Detroit area, we have a lot of actual Cruises, and millions of car shows (including Saint John's and Eyes on Design Concours events, and events at the Gilmore Museum), but nothing else in a nice or historic setting geared specifically towards older cars. Is anyone aware of any other shows around the mid west (or where ever) which focuses primarily on the early cars, perhaps in old or historic settings, towns, museum districts? Not specific to one brand, like a Studebaker meet or a Model A show. Everyone is aware of Hershey and Carlisle, but what other hometown neat events are out there for the older car crowd that may not be well advertised or widely known, but worth traveling to attend?? Bill
  3. CWC references the block casting company in Muskegon Michigan used to produce the early split head six engine blocks during this era. Bill
  4. Thanks Bill, I did contact a couple people in the WOKR, but never heard back from anyone. Bill

  9. Yes, I have e-mailed Mike in the Graham Club and a couple others, but they are not aware of any around our area. I also contacted the gentleman who restores Sharknose's down south, but he can't help either. I am very surprised. I will keep looking. Bill
  10. Ah yes, probably the nicest Sharknose, good eye. Out of curiosity, any regular two or four doors come to mind? I have found virtually nothing around the MI, OH, IN area. Bill
  11. Which one is that, I do not see any info or link. We are still looking for a nice Sharknose, only a few weeks left to register so if anyone has a lead, please let me know. Thanks, Bill
  12. HEY GUYS, we are looking for a sharp 1937 Ford two door sedan 'slantback' to fill one last slot for a very special class we are doing at the Eyes on Design Concours show held at the beautiful Edsel & Eleanor Ford Estate in Grosse Pointe Michigan (suburb of Detroit) this Fathers Day (June 19th). This is one of the top events in the mid-west, and it would be a GREAT opportunity for someone with a nice '37 to attend an actual Concours type event. There is typically 250-300 cars and a great turnout of spectators and media. You would certainly have a fantastic time. If anyone has a VERY nice restored '37 Slantback in the mid-west area, or knows of someone who does, please contact me at your earliest as we are going to be finalizing entries soon. There is no cost for invited participants, plus you get all sorts of goodies! Thanks,..... BILL
  13. Tinindian is correct in that the 1930 motor is the best choice because it's slightly longer stroke gives it a higher usable rpm range. But either would work well for around town in your Panel. That said, the 26 to mid '28 motors were designed with a very short stroke meaning low rpm, but great for use in the 35-45 mph range (most common then). However, they also used a milder 4.18 axle ratio, and that is more the key to greater speeds if that is what is desired. The 200 cube motor of late '28 and up used a tall 4.42 axle. The results were that the 186 cube cars were good for a steady 45 mph, the 200 cube combination (slightly limited on top end with the bigger gear) was good for about 10-12 more mph at reliable cruise speeds, but the 200 also had GREAT inner city pickup and this was always Pontiac's goal early on. Anyone crazy enough to try speeds over 60 mph with one of these '26-30 era cars today should keep their feet off the floorboards for fear of flying parts, and prey the wood wheels hold up. But if top end IS your goal, try the 200 cuber, the early '28 reared (improved from '27) with the milder gear, and use a couple inch taller tire. However, I do not think speed is Mulchman's goal.
  14. Hi Rick, I am in the Early Times Chapter of the POCI, and I have recently seen a gentleman who has a '28 and a '30 motor and trans. I will e-mail you his info, hope it helps. Bill
  15. Hi Dave, your green '39 is absolutely Beautiful! What a great color combination. I sent you a message. We would love to have you at this years Eyes on Design. Send me a note at the e-mail address I provided when you can. ALSO, we may still be interested in a Sedan body style if anyone has a really, really nice one. Thanks, Bill
  16. Thank you for the Gilmore Museum info. I did contact them, and they contacted some club members to assist in the search, but no contacts as of yet. But thank you anyway.
  17. Hi Doug, the event is on Fathers Day, June 19th this year. Condition-wise, most of the cars in the event are well restored cars. The exception would be outstanding unrestored originals (which we have), but these cars would need to be super nice on the exterior and interior. Very nice paint shine, no major issues. A few minor chips would pass. Excellent chrome, nice (fairly clean ) interior. The cars are displayed with hood and trunk closed, so motor and underside need not be flawless. Is your car a Coupe Sedan (with the roof to bumper flowing back), which is needed, or the standard two door coupe with trunk?
  18. Hey guys, we are currently looking for a VERY nice '36-39 Zepher 2 door Coupe Sedan, or a 4 door regular Sedan, for the Eyes on Design Concours show held on Fathers Day at the beautiful Edsel & Eleanor Ford Estate in Grosse Pointe Mich, a suburb of Detroit. We are doing a special Streamliner Design class centering on the sleek, fastback designs of the mid thirties to the late forties. The Eyes on Design is one of the central mid west's top concours events and typically has between 250-300 hand picked cars for specific classes. More can be viewed at www.eyesondesign.org/carshow. Please let me know if you have a nice car that would fit this class well, or perhaps you know of someone in the area (MI, OH, IN, IL, PA, ONT etc) that may wish to attend. Thanks, Bill
  19. Hey Guys, we are still looking for a sharp Sharknose for the Eyes on Design Concours. So far, we have not found a really nice car that is not street rodded located around the mid-west. Can anyone get me some contact info for someone who might be able to make it up to the Detroit area for this very cool event? I have tried the Graham Club as well as the gentleman down south that restores these, but no luck yet. Bill
  20. Hey guys, we are looking for a very nice, well restored Graham Sharknose for the 2016 Eyes on Design Concours Show. Held at the beautiful Edsel & Eleanor Ford Estate in metro Detroit along the banks of Lake Saint Clair on June 19th (Fathers Day), this is one of the neatest events around the mid-west! It features 250-300 hand invited cars for specific classes, and has a great deal of media and spectators. We are doing a special class this year called 'Streamliners By Design' which center's around the mid thirties thru late forties sleek designs. If you have a nice Sharknose, or if you can refer me to someone who may, please let me know. More info at www.eyesondesign.org/carshow . Thanks, Bill
  21. Thanks for the suggestion Dave, 1941 would work great also. I did not mention it because finding some of the GM cars in '41-42 is very tuff. Still need a Buick, Caddy and Olds for this group, any leads on very well restored cars around the Mid-West would be appreciated, especially a super nice Buick! Bill
  22. Hey Guys, we are looking for a well restored '42-49 Buick Sedanette (fastback style) for a special class at the Eyes on Design Concours show held next Fathers Day (June 19th) at the classic Edsel & Eleanor Ford Estate in Grosse Pointe Michigan (suburb of Detroit). We are doing a special Streamliner Design class centering on the special styling of the mid thirties thru 1949 fastbacks and aero designs. This is one of the Mid-Wests most unique events and attracts a great deal of media, auto execs and spectators, plus a field of about 300 beautiful, hand picked cars in special classes. More can be viewed at www.eyesondesign.org/carshow . If you have a beautifully restored car that would fit this class and would like to attend, please drop me a note (and a photo) and I will get back to you. You will love the event. Bill
