My '49 sedanet trunk lock works differently than Dan's description. The handle is turned only 90 degrees CCW to open - the 3:00 position. Also, and I don't know if this is normal, the key cannot be removed while unlocked. It must be re-locked to remove the key.

Not sure how correct this is. It appears to have been replaced at some time a long time ago. On mine the slightly longer peice is attached to the body down to a bit past halfway. The slightly shorter piece is attached to the rear of the trunk lid. There is a rough taper where they overlap.

The quarter stainless mouldings are beat up pretty good. Found a pair of gravel guards on ebay for cheap that needed restoration, so I bought these to work on as optional replacements. They weren't any better than what's on the car but it gives me some insurance against failure during the repairs. I've managed to work all the dents out of this one. Next is to see if I can weld up all the DPO holes without destroying it.

Still waiting its turn in the restoration/repair queue. Car runs and drives good as is, but the Dynaflow outflow is measured in miles per gallon.

Thought of making this a "Show us your..." thread, but I concluded that it wouldn't get too many examples. So just posting this up to share. Here's my 1940s Benett 646 gas pump. Don't know whether it originally came in Buick livery or if it was dressed up by a former owner.

Layden, those are neat! I recently replaced the pan gasket on my 65 Ford Mustang and was delighted to discover that the gasket came with a set of plastic guide tools very similar to those you have. They really helped with the installation. I never knew that it was an old idea and that there were genuine tools made for that purpose.

One reason for no 15" wheel offering might be related to the Skylark wheel being a 4-bolt. Bolt pattern is 4x114.

Don't see any period photos with RH side mirror, but the LH side in your photos resembles the stock US mirror. Dual mirrors were not very common then but the RH mirror in your photos appears to match the LH.

My 62 Skylark convertible originally came with power windows, power top, PB, PS, AT, air conditioning, V8, 4bbl carb, SS trim on the sides, the wheel arches, and the rockers, button tucked interior, bucket seats, tinted windshield. In other words pretty fully loaded with options. So I assume the 63s would have offered a similar option list. "Skylark" was more upscale than its economy minded sibling, the "Special." I had a 63 special sedan that only had the V8, AT, and PS which I think was the most common.

I think it's actually 11',2". But yeah, there was some intentional reason I chose that dimension when I designed it. Only now years later I can't remember why! I think it was a compromise between having room for a lift while not making it too tall for the inside stairway up to the 2nd floor loft.

It's a little more comfortable with an 11 foot ceiling.

I wish I had room for another project. This was my '62 Skylark I had back in the '80s. I've never seen another as fully optioned. Wife talked me into selling it, around 1985 if I recall, for $1200. Miss it.

Does it look like this? I don't have a source, but thought it might help to have a visual reference.

1940s Sun Motor Tester. Haven't used this yet but I did power up the various modules and all seems to be working. Made in the late '40s.

Pete, do you still have the rear quarter trim piece for a 49 sedanet that you mentioned a while back? "I have the long, rear quarter molding, fits either side. One is used, has door dings, and a 5" long fairly deep scratch on the lower half. The other one is virtually perfect and I think it is new old stock. They will be expensive because I paid a lot for them several years ago thinking I would own a '49 Sedanet someday." Especially looking for the long trim piece, and a nice gravel guard too.

That rumbling noise sounds like the rear end. Remember you said it was dry and making a scraping sound before.

This is original paint on my 49 super. Not body color but some shade of gray. Can't tell you about the body tag because mine was repainted once and I think the tag may have been painted over too. (black).
