  1. The shipping company picked up the car today. I received the wire transfer last week. Once it cleared, I forwarded the paperwork to the shipping company and they arranged the pick up. I photographed the car before it went on the flatbed and once it was on the flatbed. I sent the photos to the buyer via email. This was relatively painless.
  2. Thanks for all the good advice; I'm heeding it. I called up the shipping company. The woman I spoke to was very nice. She told me that they worked with the potential buyer before. She explained that they could pick up the car from my home and that they could wire the money to me. She agreed with me that it's a bad idea to pick up a large amount of cash near the docks. The woman also explained that their company attends Hershey and Carlisle and ships cars purchased by overseas buyers directly from these meets to the port and on to the foreign countries. I looked in last year's Hershey program and it lists a vendor space for this company. When I spoke to the potential buyer later in the day, I told him that if he wants the car, he has to arrange for pick up from my house for delivery to the port. He tried to negotiate a lower price to cover the towing cost, but I refused. He said he'll look into this and get back to me. I think he might be a dealer and is trying to protect his profit margin by saving on the towing cost. I understand this, but I'm not paying for the towing either. While all this was happening, a local person came to see the car and said he really liked it. His wife was with him and she liked it. He wasn't ready to make a deal just yet. I told him about the potential sale to Sweden, but that didn't speed him up. I'll post a further update when things move along. Thanks again for the great insights and advice.
  3. I've only ever sold cars locally. I have an offer on my 1965 Impala from a buyer in Sweden. He says he'll wire the money to a shipping company in Elizabeth NJ (I've looked up the company, but don't know if it's appropriate to list it here) and they'll pay me cash when I drop off the car at their location in the port. Has anyone on the forum ever done this before? I'm a little worried about being in Elizabeth, especially by the port, with a large sum of cash on me. If I go, I'd have at least one friend who would follow me and then drive me home. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  4. I've had good luck with Rock Auto. I bought the majority of the parts for two cars' mechanical refurbishments from them. The first was a 1961 Bel Air and the second was a 1965 Impala. Our local NAPA stores are also good at finding parts for older cars. I've also bought a few parts on ebay - no complaints so far.
  5. Yes, the car is still for sale. Please send a PM to discuss further. Thanks.
  6. I had the car on ebay. Someone bid but they haven't paid. As far as I'm concerned it's still for sale. Send me a PM via this forum so we can get in touch to arrange for you to see the car. Thanks.
  7. I tried it for the first time recently. I advertised my 1965 Impala for sale (also listed in the cars for sale section). I've had a few questions about the car, but no action from fb. It seems to be the same as craigslist.
  8. Have you seen my 1965 Impala in the Cars for Sale forum? Please send a PM if interested. Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the follow up, Mr. Earl and auburnseeker. I did PM the guy but haven't heard back. Now I wish I'd attended Rhinebeck. I'll keep my eyes open. In the meantime I'm trying to sell my 1965 Impala (see the Cars for Sale forum) to make room should I find a Skylark. I'll post a "car wanted" when the Chevy sells.
  10. Still for sale? Please send me a PM if so. Thanks.
  11. $7000 - or trade for 1960's Buick Special or Skylark Coupe Nassau County, Long Island. Nice driver quality Impala with 82,000 miles. New York inspection good until 9/30/18. Six-cylinder, Powerglide, power steering and correct working 1965 Chevrolet AM/FM radio. The car was ordered with the optional all vinyl black interior. Assembled at Tarrytown during the third week of July, 1965. Sold new at Baldwin Chevrolet, Baldwin, Long Island in September 1965. I have the original bill of sale, the Fisher Body punch card and two recall notices from the dealer dated 1966. I also have the original owner's manual and owner protection plan booklet with the protecto-plate. The paperwork I have shows that the original owner lived in Long Island and moved to New Hampshire with the car in 1974. It changed hands twice in New Hampshire before I bought it there in 2014 and returned it to Long Island. A previous owner had a valve and ring job done in 2008, Since I bought the car I've had the following done: Rebuilt Carburetor Brakes redone - including new lines and master cylinder New Ciadella seat covers and seat foam installed New Ciadella carpet installed New fuel tank and sender installed New radio speaker installed Rear axle fluid and gasket changed Transmission pan gasket and filter replaced Grease fittings replaced Upper control arm bushings replaced Water pump replaced Belts and Hoses replaced Stabilizer links and strut rod bushings replaced Trunk weather strip replaced Heater switch replaced New tires (they're now four years old with only a few hundred miles on them) New exhaust system, including manifold The car was repainted in single stage urethane - new emblems and door handles were installed. The paint job was a color change - from Ermine White to Crocus Yellow. Why am I selling it after all that? For me half the fun of the hobby is buying and selling the cars. Another car wants to follow me home, but I have to make room for it. The car drives very nicely. It accelerates and shifts well. I've been pleased with the acceleration for a six-cylinder full-size car. The car could still use: the padded dash has started lifting at the corners. The headliner needs a repair on the passenger side sale panel. The center trunk floor has some rust. The rear doors don't always want to open. Please send a PM for more information or to make an appointment to see the car.
  12. I'm posting this for a friend from our local car club. Six-cylinder, three-speed synchromesh, new interior. $24,000 or possible trade. The car is located in Suffolk County, Long Island. Please call Ken directly at 631-880-8489 for more information.
