  1. Not surprising on the rockers or the valve guides for that matter.. I've never seen a set of older heads not need guides even if there were no symptoms.
  2. If you don't mind me asking did you buy a kit from him?
  3. Well I'm not going to argue the benefits or lack of benefits of converting to discs... It's already done probably not something I would have done on my own but I do feel it does brake better with the discs plus it now has modern tapered wheel bearings and that's a huge plus to me... All that being said I do understand that the original master was not at all designed for discs hence my thinking about going this route.. Not doing it for any extra perceived safety features besides the fact that it's new not who knows how old and just slapped on lol. I haven't had any issues with my discs dragging due to that valve.. My guess is that after 60 odd years it's not doing what it was designed to... Brake light switch wise I already did the mod that beemon came up with and I'm intending on sticking with that set up vs any kind of pressure switch.
  4. So my special has already has been upgraded with the scare bird front disc kit.. At the same time the previous owner upgraded it to the factory power brake set up..I believe he literally just put one on from a parts car and it worked well enough.. Anyhow I have a little money to spend soon and was thinking about going this route.. Figure it'll address the inconsistent pedal feel and also be a better match for disc brakes up front.. Does anyone have any experience with this kit?? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F131841914934
  5. No offense but I'm not understanding the mad search for dex/merc everyone sales it in numerous brands... Maybe I'm misunderstanding
  6. That's really odd cause it's their web site that mentions it lol.. Although I've found other inconsistencies on it...
  7. Some sources swear up and down the fel pro head gaskets will leak oil... Can't speak from experience... Reasonable price on radiator hopefully no surprises
  8. I've come across this before on an old Ford.. Just got the truck it was running fine but of course I had to check things out.. Discovered the vacuum advance was shot.. No big deal I'll get a new one .. Got it installed no problem go for a drive and as soon as any throttle is applied all hell would break loose..wtf... Pull over and disconnect vacuum advance.. Running great again.. Hook it up and awful awful again.. Hmm.. Get back home and pop off cap.. Suck on vacuum line and there was the problem.. The advance plate bushing was shot so anytime the vacuum can would pull on it it would go cock eyed and really mess with the points.. Turns out a very common problem on old Ford distributors
  9. Sounds like a reasonable plan...I might be hesitant to put in lifters that have been broken in with a different cam.. Might be asking for trouble just a thought
  10. Looks like the head of coming off.. My limited experience is if it's a burnt valve there's zero to maybe at most 20 pounds.. But maybe just a small piece of the valve is damaged.. Or gasket.. Hopefully gasket
  11. I replaced it with one from a classic radiator in I believe new York.. Went with their high efficiency design... It was pricey but built here in the U.S. And 100 percent new
  12. To bad you're not closer I'd literally give you my high efficiency recored rad... Never overheated no problems except lower tank has a very very minor leak by tranny line..I replaced it last summer with a new rad just to be done with it.. Never any overheating in 110 degree stop and go.. Needle will creep up to dead on middle of N which is higher then usual for me but no overheating no vapor lock...
  13. Check out the slyvania silver star lights..I believe the number is h6024st
  14. I'm running the regular Sylvania halgon and find them to be quite fine.. That being said they also offer the Xtra vision and silverstar lines in this bulb as well..o'reilly carries them in stock.. The factory 6024 .. If you're running h4 then they even have the silverstar ultra as well.
  15. Mine is on top of the brackets just like my gen was.. I'll try to take a picture tonight
  16. So weird mine bolted right up no fuss no nothing
  17. I think you'll love it.. Like I said don't be surprised if you end up going one belt size smaller
  18. I'll have to check my paper work but I believe it claimed 66 at "idle" and 90 at full output
  19. I have one in my 56 special..I literally drive it Dailey.. Been on for over a year cause I got sick and tired of awful modern voltage regulators.. Haven't had a single problem since..I did end up going one belt size smaller then factory.
  20. I have no idea but I can tell you when I did mine with a friend in an actual shop it took us four hours.. Neither one of us had done one before.. This was on my 56...
  21. Sounds like you maybe replaced the ballast resistor for the blower motor and not for the ignition.. There's two one for the blower motor and one for the ignition
  22. My craftsman 13/16th fits just fine... Tried others and they just barley wouldn't fit
