    AWD vs. 4WD

I have driven a 4x4 chevy duramax dually for years...love the push button 4x4...hands down my fav. And the allison tranny tow feature allows you to use it as a compression brake so you dont have to use brakes as much. Around here 4x4 or AWD is a must. In Awd (and also when truck is in 4x4) you feel the front end more in the ride and the steering. And you cant disengage it in the awd...our awd is a v8 vw phaeton and it is great so far...but it coasts good so not as good in snow IMO. Angie
  2. And he posted this in general discussion today and also a youtube...its so sad. HELP SAVE VINTAGE TIN! I'm sure many of you have seen this carnage on the internet in different places, but here it is "from the horses mouth". For the past seven days, our vintage race team has frantically been trying to save as many vintage cars and parts as humanly possible from the crusher. One of the oldest salvage yards in RUSTFREE Montana is crushing EVERYTHING! The details are on my facebook page. Please read ALL of the posts from the past seven days BEFORE you ask questions! There are a very few complete restorable cars left (posted), but there is an AMAZING assortment of trim and glass from the 40s to 60s. If you want to help this weekend and are close to Whitehall, Montana please lend us a hand! moparmontana@gmail.com https://www.facebook.com/pages/Monta...al/45553878706 Montana Dodge Boys Fast Four Special Vintage Flathead Four Cylinder Bonneville Record Holders www.fastfourspecial.com

  4. He has posted his number on fb but i dont feel comfy posting it here. If you look at his facebook page you will see it. His email is moparmontana@gmail.com. He said most of the50's stff was stacked last week. I was looking for the fold down window cranks, a windsor deluxe emblem, and floor cover panels for our 51 windsor deluxe traveler...he said he would get back to me. Email him pics of what you are looking for. His update yesterday said they began crushing the mopars yesterday. He said the owner told him he would make 20 grand a day each day the crusher is there....so sad....but i understand. I am really happy he got a lot of it saved.
  5. These are just a small fraction of the pics he has posted.
  6. I follow these guys on facebook but they are also on here....membername fast four special. They have been rescuing mopars for four days now. This yard is jammed full and everything they dont save is being crushed. Check out their facebook page https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=45553878706
  7. Whew....I was hoping it wasn't out of line. I don't kow what all colors Buick offered then but I bet it was a lot more than Chevy did. Purplish red looks close. I just love the stance of this car. If we didn't have so many projects I would be interested. I am keeping it in my memory as a car I would love to do down the road. Each time I see the pics I like it even more. Hope it goes to a good home that keeps it stock or close to it.
  8. I follow a group on facebook that is called Montana Dodge Boys Fast Four Special. They posted an ad for a really cool looking buick on their page today. We cant afford another project now but this sure is a looker. It says it is rust free. He says he wants 2750 obo by monday. They are in montana. Best way I can think to contact is like them on facebook and see their post from today. I uploaded the pics to share here. I would love to see this go to someone here who would appreciate it. I have no connections to this car other than seeing it on facebook. Sorry if it is wrong to post here. Please advise where I should post it. Here are the pics. What a stylish look.
  9. I think it is great you are reaching out for info here...Good job. I would ask your uncle if he has a fixer or knows of any near you. I wouldn't buy any manuals until I get a car.....cuz they are all different. You can go to the library (our library has car mauals a s a free database accessible online too) and also there is a site on line called old car manual project http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com . They have manuals for many of the older cars you can look at for free. There are also brochures there, which may help you decide what car is the one you want. I am a 43 yo woman so my taste is gonna b much different than yours.....but I like most any car of the fifties. In my experience the Chevies are most collected....the early fifties are my very favorite.....and they are cheaper than the mid fifties....or tir5 as they call them. This year we have been finding great prices on old mopars (Chrysler, dodge, desoto, etc) but the thing is there isn't as many replacement parts for them so we have to spend more time finding original stuff. I spend hours on our local craigslist just searching for cars.....not to buy just to see what is out there. (We have had to buy a few of them, though....lol) What I do is type the years I am interested in 1931 to 1954 in separately doing a search for each year.....and I just select car and truck for the catagory. You will be surprised what all comes up....some projects and some runners. It's good to see what's near you, though. The car shows is a great idea, too. There is also a tv channel that has a lot of good old car shows....it's called velocity. There are some great shows that follow rebuilds so you will kinda see (glamorized to look easy) how the process of restoring a car works. ChevyTalk is another great resource. It is a forum of Chevy people. There is a kid like you on there now building a 66 impala.....he just sanded for the first time and he is a real go getter.....but I think he is going to have to slow down and think about it more soon....lol The forum there is awesome. go to http://www.chevytalk.com . There is also a forum at H.A.M.B. http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/ The cars of the 60's and 70's of most makes have reproduction parts available. There are many four door versions available pretty reasonable that run and perform as well or better than the two door versions. Ya just gotta look around and see what you want. If you want to check out what we are working on check out oour website at http://www.AmericanClassicMetalPickers.com. The website is a work in progress but gives u an idea of our collection.
  10. ok. find out if the pieces you need would work from a 50 if u want.....we likely have some of what u need if 50 works.
  11. I saw a kit online for rechroming. It was like a grand for a 5 gallon buckets size...but if a guy has to pay for a bunch of pieces to be redone that can add up fast. It even claims too recoat b4 chroming so it fills the pitting. We are seriously considering it.....we have a bit to redo on our 51 traveler and 55 royal lancer....and my 51 chevy too. The guy we are getting our 50 traveler and 50 windsor from said he had a few pieces redone for the traveler and it came to 400 bucks....way back when...ouch. Thats great you hung in there searching 20 years. What was the most elusive piece?
  12. Does any of the 50 trim work for 51? We have quite a bit of 50 Chrysler trim. Luckily our 51 traveler almost has it all there and it is in great shape. We are on the lookout for the round center hood piece, though. If you find out anything you need also came from a 50 let me know.
  13. Are you talking reproduction body parts? I think mostly you have to find them on old cars. I would put a search on your local craigslist. If you use a craigslist app it will notify you when new ads appear. If you have room for a parts car you can probably find a whole car for the price of a couple fenders.
  14. He doesn't want to do anything more until spring.....but Stephen can pass your contact info along to him.
  15. It's cute. I'd have one. I was really looking at the one I saw....looked good in pics.
  16. Not sure if this is a good place to post this.....but i know these are rare so I thought I would share the link. http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/4164680239.html I dont know anything about it...i just saw it while doing my craigslist wishlist shopping....it says it is in Sandpoint, Id. Looks like a cool truck to customize.
  17. Hey Jack, what is the car in your pic? The day i saw these 55's i also saw a 49 (if i remember correctly) plymouth suburban....it was darker green and i think the price was 3 grand. It was very cute....and looked similar to the car in your pic. It must have sold cuz when i went back to find it to compare i couldn't find the cl ad.
  18. John...you were the reason i even opened the ad. I remembered yours and was wanting to see if it was like yours....so i open the ad and sure enough just like yours but 4 door.... We were heading up to get firewood the next morning but cancelled so we could call this guy bright and early....730 am...lol Good thing, too....cuz he had someone call when we were on our way who said he wanted it...We love it. Theplan is to get it road worthy and enjoy it while we do the 51 traveler...then worry about restoring it..The only thing we can see we need off the parts car is one v8 emblem....we will just park the spare out backand keep the parts...just in case. That way if we ever get creamed we have replacement metal. Do you think the price was good? We didnnt mind paying his full asking price but it was great he ended up having a chevy 216 for a spare for my bus. Coupe. So glad i opened that page...thanks to you. (I always search the years 31 to 55 separately on craigslist as Randy watches tv....i kill myself seeing all the great deals we just dont jump on...but this time is different. I am envious of your cars....i want them...lol. I will have to settle for a ride when we come back down in June. What are the little bullets?
  19. I amsure he would sell. They are at his farm and he has moved into town....not likely he will get to them. The "boat" he has in the barn may be some fancy Chrysler....he said it was a 60 or 62 I think.....it had an inch of dust on it like the one we got. Stephen can email asking him. It would suck to just let that dart rot out there....the windshield already got broke from something getting blown onto it. All of the cars are very straight and pretty complete...he parked them with high hopes of restoring them. He said he has already sold ten...and his prices were very reasonable. He said he had plans to make the highlander into a convertible custom...cuz it is a 2d ht.....but he admitted he would probably never get to it. He is building a kit airplane....and has been since 06....so he spends his time working on that. Ps....he agreed to sell us his traveler and windsor...we are so stoked...te traveler is in pieces...but he has it all...and even has some of the chrome redone already. Here is what ours looked like.... After we washed it...kinda...since it was 20 degrees out...
  20. It will never be the mopar or nocar for me....cuz i will have my 51 chevy til the day I die....but yeah they are engineered a lot better. I like most Chevies...just not the vettes and new camaros. .....and I am a GMC /chevy truck fan for sure....and i would love a 25 model Tt ford.....I am diverse...i just like style. Oh yeah i even saw a really cool 37 ford flatbed that had fenders from the factory that i fell in love with.
  21. We went to pick up a 55 Dodge Royal Lancer we found. Turns out the guy was an old farmer who had a bunch of mopars....and best part was he has a 50 traveler. It ran and drove when he disassembled it...but it is in pieces now. Most of the stuff is in his barns but the body was literally burried under a foot of soil that had washed down the hill nehind it during a flood.....after a few hours we got it out to get access to the other complet custom Royal and spare hemi we got.....anyhow....we told him we were very interested in his traveler but he said he wanted to get it going someday. Well....the next day when we went back to get the other car he showed us that he had many parts from the traveler chromed and ready to go back on it. He said he couldnt let his go as cheap as the 51 we found but may b interested to sell it to us. He also has a parts car for that....a 50 windsor.... He also has the original traveler motor and another 48 l head. He said he has already sold 10 or so old mopars....and still has a 50 highlander 2 door hardtop, a 60 dart 2 door ht, and another 60 or 62 Chrysler boat....And a 49 or 50 1.5 ton truck....We told him we cant get back down there in winter but want the traveler in spring. He also had a whole barn full of old mopar parts....he worked at napa and had a machine shop set up in a barn....so he seemed to come across all the goodies people were tossing out. I think we have been bit by the mopar bug......before August we didn't own any....and now we have a 51 traveler, a 50 royal parts car, two 55 royal lancers w/hemi's and soon to get a 50 traveler and windsor.....and a spare 265 l head and hemi...... We had a great time looking at all the guy's cool old stuff, too. All in all it was a great experience.....
