  1. I don’t know if you know it or not but the BBB is just bunch of companies that have bad reputations. Years ago someone started selling the idea of something called the BBB to companies that rip off their customers. The idea was that your rip off company pays a yearly fee to the BBB and they in turn side with your company on any dispute. This is no such government burrow as the BBB not federal, state, or local it is a clever scam organization set up to protect other scammers. Anyone can call themselves a burrow or agency or whatever they want. I hire outside contractors to do a lot of work for the company I am employed at and one of the first things I do is check to see if they are a member of the BBB. If they are a member that’s a definite red flag telling me not to let them step foot in any of our buildings.
  2. There are only 3 or 4 battery manufactures that make all the batteries we see in the stores. quality is close to same from all whether it is a flooded cell type or gell or AGM. i have better luck with AGM batteries. the AGMs can sit in a state of disscharge for long periods and be brought back to full percentage with a smart charger designed for AGMs. i was never impressed with optima, the case is a little different looking but the technology inside is exactly the same as any other similar type battery. the only real difference was that the optima cost more.
  3. I will bet you’re going to get some really good ones before it’s all done. Good luck.
  4. I find a couple of toys per year that I end up with off of craigslist. I may have to stop looking at craigslist soon because it is giving me a permanent headache. Yesterday I clicked on a 66 mustang for sale that the guy said was numbers matching with the original y block 289. A couple of days before that there was a guy with a charger that had a numbers matching 383 hemi from the factory. Then there are the cars that that are more rust than car, they have next to nothing salvageable left on them and the guy says this would make a great restoration project.
  5. there is a lot of good stuff in those links thank you very much dep5.
  6. i am allmost ready to start on the roof replacement. i am finishing the doors off now and looking at the area where there was wood and a top. all the wood is gone and i have nothing there. if someone knows where i can find info on a 34 olds, chevy, or buick it be very nice to see. thanks Ben
  7. are those prices for chrome or gold LOL
  8. I would have nothing to do with a title class for antique. I am very happy to have my titles be exact in description and not lump me into a category that could be restricted in the future. Someone else mentioned driving restrictions which is the big problem as it pertains to insurance. I do not see any way it would be in my best interest to go antique title.
  9. So here’s one I noticed the other day on one of the how to car shows where they sell products. The guy who is pretending to be a car know it all was packing wheel bearings. As the camera pans in on the bearings I see that the guy’s hands were dirty and he is not wearing rubber gloves. I try to do things the right way and show my kids and other young people the right way and here’s this idiot on TV doing packing dirt into the new bearings.
  10. If you mean fantom works then yes I have been there and there is a lot of reality in that show which would explain the lack of interest in said show. The reality of gas monkey type shows is in the workmanship and they never put the cameras in a position to see much of that. Sometimes the cameras do catch misaligned fenders and hoods on what they are calling a finished car.
  11. Thank you all for the responses. I have made all the wood for one door and have all the parts back in place. Window works and door latches, fitment is great at the top and half way down the sides. The doors curve in at the bottom to meet the body and are much better. I still need to work on the wood frame some to get that bottom to fit perfect. For the wood I am using void free birch ¾ “ ply and gluing layers together to get the thicknesses that I need. Then using kills brand sealer to weather proof and help maintain shapes. Some pieces of wood had to be bent and sealed to get the desired shape. I have been working with the birch ply for years and love it for its light weight and great strength. It will be used throughout the interior.
  12. I started working on the doors to my 1934 olds and as I have stated before I have never worked on a car this old. I have been looking at the doors on the car for two years while doing other parts of the car and I always wondered why they looked so misaligned. The fitment at the bottoms of the doors was all wonky looking nothing lined up. I took one door off the other day and started removing all the wood and accessories. I take my time and make patterns, with lots of measurements and notes. After all the wood was removed I noticed how flimsy the door was at the bottom. That’s when it hit me that those fitment issues I have seen were due to the wood inside the doors being bad, rotten and warped. So I figure that when fitting new wood back into the doors I will want to have the doors on the car to make adjustments to the wood as I go to align all the edges right? My hinges are in good shape but I am not wild about using wood screws to mount doors and hinges. I am thinking about making steel mounting plates recessed into the wood and taped for bolts. Is that something you guys have done? I received new rubber window runners and weather stripping today for my car.
  13. The area around Richmond is nice as is the climate. My wife and I would move there if my company (cardinal health) had something for me in that area. We own property in the VA beach area but only get to use it a couple times per year. Retirement is only 3 or 4 years away for us and we will be in that area for good when that happens.
  14. thanks i was looking at some but not finding a good example.
  15. It looks like a truck wheel and axle to me. I am not used to seeing cars that old.
  16. Look at the rear axle on the ford right in front of the motorcycle cop. Is that a truck rear axle?
  17. I am working on replacing all the wood in my doors now (1934 olds) and I have no rubber moldings. I have everything except the moldings. So I have found some moldings on eBay but they list them as fitting several different cars. If the moldings can fit several different cars is it just a roll of material I need? When I look at the pictures of moldings I see the same rubber material on McMaster cars website with metal molded into the rubber so that it can be bent to fit.
  18. thanks to everyone i will post some before and after pics soon i hope.
  19. intersting stuff thanks. I am looking forwards to replating for the fun of doing it my self.
  20. “The sponsors claim the so-called corn ethanol mandate drives up the price of corn, food, and gas. The fact of the matter is that corn is less expensive today than when the RFS was passed in 2007.” If people in this country would just take back control of our government from the lobbyist it would solve a lot of our problems.
  21. I am looking at silver plate kits and processes for my headlight reflectors. 1934 olds they are missing some plating and need redone. can anyone sugust a good product or method please. thank you.
  22. This is not that bad it just sounds bad. Whoever told you such a large sum of money is needed is a fool or a shyster lawyer. The highway patrolman gave you good info or correct info. What you have to do is go before your county with all your paper work. Ask around find some other local hot rod guys who know which attorney you need to see to get the mater into the docket. About $50 for the attorney is fair another $50 for court cost and then your title will be issued. Have all paper work and all frame, body, and engine numbers listed. Not much money just a little time and effort. Good luck.
