  1. McHinson, Thank you for the diagram. I will print it for my files. After looking at it I decided to disassemble the headlight again. I then realized what I was looking at. The screw I was referring to is the up/down adjustment that is under the chrome ring. The screw did in fact adjust the headlight in that the bottom clip attaches to the bottom of the reflector. That had not been attached, therefore no effect on the reflector. All good now. Thanks again, Dave
  2. Regarding the headlights on a 37. I renovated my headlights and once back together attempted to adjust them. The adjustment screw (up and down) kept on turning with change in the aiming of the headlights. They are way too high. So I disassembled the right one and now I could see the adjustment screw turning nowhere. The back end of it is not visible (and not assessable from the front but goes through sheet metal. It looks like the only way to access the back end of the screw is to remove the 3 bolts holding the headlight buckets to the radiator shroud or whatever it is called. And the manual says to adjust the headlights right to left and up and down by turning the two adjustment screws. But is doesn't say which way to turn the screw for up or down or right to left. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you! Dave
  3. Will do. Everything looked quite good the last time I was in there. No second chances so blankets under the buckets to catch anything dropped! Thanks again.
  4. Bloo: All original everything. No the focal point of the lights do not seem to move. The lens does not move but the reflector should. So suspect there is a problem with both adjustment screws. I guess I will have to disassemble the light to see why there doesn't seem to be any movement. McHinson: All original bulb etc. This car was virtually untouched with any modern changes. Yep, remove the lenses. Don: It has been awhile but I believe those springs were present. Everything seemed in order parts wise. We will have to take another look. Thanks all, Dave
  5. Greeitngs! Hopefully someone will have a little insight on Buick headlights. Specifically up and down adjustment. When I purchased the car the headlights needed restoration. This I did. I didn't see anything amiss with the workings and everything went back together fine. The adjustment seems quite high for both left and right. Utilizing the adjustment screws at the lower front of the buckets they both turn freely but there seems to be no adjustment change. Anyone know which way is up and which way is down. I am not looking forward to disassembling them again to see what is amiss. The adjustment process in the manual seems somewhat complicated. Thank you for any ideas. Dave

  7. Gary, Do you have any photos of the exhaust ports on the block with the positioning (not the right word for sure) rings installed prior to manifold installation? Thank you, Dave
  8. JBP, Thank you for your input. I have already replaced the gasket with, yep a copper one. We will see how it goes. I took the advise of many on the forum not to torque the nuts down any more than say 20lbs to put less stress on the manifold on first installation. Not saying that was the cause but Gary Wheeler who did a more than immaculate complete restoration of his 37 (check his blog to see an amazing restoration and documentation of his project) went to specs with 30lbs. I did so as well this time. And the manifold was planed prior to first installation. Didn't see the Remflex info soon enough but it will be the next step if this one goes bad. Regards, Dave

  10. Has anyone had an issue with their exhaust manifold gasket? I purchased the copper one from Bob's. Installed it with the copper Loctite Copper Based Anti-seize Lubricant as recommended in the Buick forum. Torqued about 17 lbs as recommended for the old long in line manifolds. Heard an exhaust leak after 600 miles and part of the gasket is sliding up on ports 6 and 7. All other ports are fine. Called Bob's and the sales guy said others are complaining about this same thing. Big PIA to replace! Any comments or ideas?

  13. Greeting Gents! Does anyone out there have photos of their bumper jack and tools for a 1939 Buick Special? Like every vintage auto I have purchased the jack and tools were nowhere to be found. Attached is what I have. They were given to me with the shown tag attached. Green seems odd. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Dave

  15. MCHinson, Thank you very much, great information. A valuable asset this forum. That worked out just fine however now there are 3 pins holding the plug to the reflector. They have small springs behind the reflector and there doesn't seem a way to disconnect them. The heads are pointed and they have a thread-like appearance to the shafts Something is holding the bottom of the shafts to the bulb socket as the spring is applying pressure. Odd setup. Nothing like 1937 technology. See photos. Any direction very much appreciated. Dave
  16. MCHinson and Gary, Thank you, I was a member some time ago. I will figure out how to send you my email. Thanks Gary (if I didn't thank you already) for sending me your notes. Lenses came off quite easily. Getting the reflectors out looks a bit more challenging. On we go!

Similar to my 39 Ford but some definite differences and you'alls advice could save me a very unfortunate incident. MCHinson, would love to have a link to your restoration and the headlights. Grimy, thanks for the tape suggestion, that I will do with padding below and an extra pair of hands. Thank you gentlemen, you have been extremely helpful. Dave
