Thanks all. Solution: Removed the gas tank and soldered the spot where the gas was seeping. Then lined the tank with POR 15 gas tank sealer. All good. For now.

Thanks for all the advice. We got in there and found that the rod bearings were ok. Replaced them anyway. Main bearings were showing copper, so we replaced those, too. Turns out the knock was coming from the torque converter. Bolt holes were stripped so we drilled new ones and its now solid. No knock. But another issue--seems my master cylinder may be going. Are master cylinders for the 62 pretty easy to come by? I've seen some pretty wild variations on price online. Suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for the help, gents. I'll be changing the rod bearings. Any thoughts on changing the oil pump while I'm at it? If so, where might I find one? Is that a part that has been remanufactured? Junk yards are far and few between here in Honolulu. Thanks.

Wondering if I can get advice about rod bearings. I'm hearing a slight knock on start up. Ran some Sea Foam and the noise got a but louder. Switched to 50 wt and STP and that seems to have stopped some of the noise. I hear some knocking, but its intermittent. Is it just a matter of time? Best to replace the bearings now? Hey Ken, thought I'd touch base about the fan clutch. I went ahead and removed it but did not replace it. Also took out the AC compressor. Replaced fan and put a spacer in where the fan clutch used to go. Had to modify a bit for the new radiator since it is an aluminum three row instead of two. Engine running cooler than it ever has. Thanks for the advice, Pete. It is a difficult part to find. In fact, I'm not sure that the fan clutch I have on it is the original. Would you think that the the skylark 215 v8 has the same part? russell

Thanks, Joe. Rebuild means I have to store the car or tow it to my building. Given what you say about the risk of worn shaft, buying one sounds like the way to go. Been looking online, but can't seem to find one. Any ideas?
