  1. My 1st car was a 55 Buick Special and I can tell you it was QUIET. At idle, you sometimes thought it had died.
  2. Nope, not yet. Money is the only reason at this point, storage and a big shop would be the other.
  3. Me too Ben. When I get online, my shortcut takes me directly to Activity stream or What's New. Here is the address I use. http://forums.aaca.org/activity.php
  4. Must be the rare "mirror edition", even the engine is in backward.
  5. Dry and gummy. Had to remove all door panels on mine and spray with WD40. You might get enough sprayed in around the door latch area to do some good.
  6. Maybe that is what they call "Puke Green"
  7. Since you brought it up, what is your vacuum at idle? Cap off vacuum to booster and note if vacuum changes or idle speed and quality changes. If booster is leaking, you may notice major changes when pedal is applied vs pedal up.
  8. Mike, if the vanes were not broken there is likely something else going on besides just worn out. They may be salvageable after a 2nd look inside, maybe stuck flow control or something.
  9. Mike, your English is fine, change pill colors.
  10. Mike, you are correct, the drill spotted ends face inward to the spring and the smooth faces out to contact big washer on both sides. Drill spots both sides face the spring and each other. If I remember correctly, the pump vane body can be flipped over and will not pump. I will consult manual for clues on that. John Page 272, 8-26. Cast arrow on rotor housing should point in direction of rotation; clockwise as viewed from front of pump.
  11. What is your definition of standard hardware grade bolts? (OK, I see you edited post to specify grade 8. Those are high strength bolts.)
  12. Brake shoes are supposed to be installed by pushing both wheel cylinder pistons to near center of the wheel cylinder. When both shoes are resting against the anchor pin AND both wheel cylinder pins and pistons pushed in, the shoes are resting on the "pads" of the backing plate and held in place by the retainer pins and springs. With star wheel adjusted to it's shortest length, the drum should slide on easily. Having said all that, it is my opinion that the piston cannot push the cup off the wheel cylinder unless shoes are incorrectly anchored or you have a mismatch of components somewhere. The piston and rubber cannot blow out unless there is too much travel of the shoes upon application of the pedal.
  13. Redundant discussion. Some similar threads listed at bottom of page. Most "purists" will advise to keep 6v system. Be aware of all the things that will need to be addressed, everything electrical has to be changed or voltage dropped with resistors. After some "searching" subject on forum, and you feel educated, do as you wish.
  14. Very good misterc9! In what category do you want that Nobel prize?
  15. How about a pop-up window that appears when you try to open a new thread in "Sell" which links to Forum Rules and at the bottom there would be a check box which you must check "I agree" before you can continue posting a new thread. This may force new posters to read rules.Unfamiliarity seems to be the biggest problem. Those who are familiar with the rules/guidelines don't appear to be the problem with pricing and location. Then they could scroll to the bottom and check the box without reading like most of us do anyway!
  16. Pete, did you compare the cup depth on the new lifters vs the old ones? They may have sent you the wrong lifters, if so I think you may be able to change the pushtubes to match. 55's and 56's are different, so I have read on this forum. The cam hardness is also different from 55 to 56. Willie may see this and chime in. Never fill or prime new lifters, it is difficult to bleed them down when installing rockers and you can bend valves and pushtubes on startup. GM 6.2 diesel book suggested filling lifters with diesel fuel so they would leak down easier when assembling engine and turn engine over slowly by hand to prevent bent valves. Those were roller tipped tappets.
  17. How long of a breaker bar and how long of a pipe? Torque charts don't list that anyway.
  18. It should not rattle, rumble or squeal.
  19. The trans output "down" angle must equal the differential "up" angle. ie: if trans is 2* down then the differential should be 2* up.
  20. Marty: I did not attack or criticize Wayne, it was merely an observation.
