If you are concerned about VR grounding, also run a line from the VR chassis to the engine block, at least for test purposes.

I'm not sure how I feel about that switch, but at least its not the screw kind that gives you the 50/50 shot of burning your car to the ground.
I have only seen cut off switches installed on the power cable, not the ground cable. That makes sense to me as a wire shorting to ground in the harness could cause a fire if the cutout is installed on the ground cable.
If the path to the battery is interrupted, a (theoretical) infinite resistance is in the circuit and no current will flow.

Make sure the cutout voltage is adjusted correctly. Use the procedures in the 1940 Shop Manual to check out VR settings. It doesn't take long to do.

This is the one I use. 300 amp. I mount them on the inner fender wall and use #00 cable. Only adds about 2 feet of cable, but my batteries are under hood.

Three terminals is correct for 1940.

Replace it with a WCD. 663S will work nicely. You will thank me later.

Oops not clear. 1 set = for both sides for 1 car. So 4 bearing assys for outer and 2 assys for inner.

Every one I have seen has the insulation wrapper

Longer hood on the 70 series. The flat area on the front fender between the front door edge and where the fender starts to flare out is a few inches wider on the 70 series.

Just saw this. We are so sorry.

Just a followup. Finally got the carb pulled. It is completely plugged up. Very fine red powder everywhere, and lots of it. I have to overhaul it again. This time I am insisting on a modern gas filter. To heck with authentic appearance.

How about the guy that shows up dressed in full duster with hat and goggles...and it's 90 degrees in the shade.

Ok you know the score then. I have a full bench setup to test distributors and I will do some testing myself. I think 400 VDC will be sufficient but it's always good to test to a full range.

Thought you all might like to see what this cluster looks like at night for those who had the UV filters removed. I got this cluster off E-bay and fixed it up. I am going to make a display of this along with the Studebaker UV-lit panel and hang on my shop door. Enjoy! Dave

I saw this a few minutes after he posted it. Just luck. Boy, I had to think really hard. I would have 3 coupes, 36, 38, and 40. But I would be single again.
