My thanks to everyone who responded. I have located a pair of conrods in New York State and I will collect them at Christmas. They are a bit of an unknown, but hopefully they will be crack free. I am always impressed by the passion and generosity of the members of this forum. Thank you again to all who responded. Below is the last picture of the before the engine let go. Hi Ron. Hope you are well. Thank you for the advice. FYI, the cylinder head that you kindly sourced for me many years ago was the only part of the engine that was in good shape when we took it apart! We are hoping the conrod is the last missing piece so we can re-assemble the engine and get back on the road. Regards Mike

Our experience is the same. The lower half crumbled to bits when it came off the engine. A mate kindly spent an evening gluing it back together to get a reasonable proximation of what it looked like. A local machine shop used the result to machine a new seal from a solid block of aluminum. The test fit showed it needed a little modifcation, but now it seems to seal properly. FYI, we were more careful removing the top half and it too was copied. Good luck with yours!

The main number on each of the conrods is 200 002 But each rod seems to have a second number which differs eg. 11-2M, 24-0M etc Does this help?

Hi All - I am hunting for a conrod for my 1928 Senior Six (2251). The engine is mid re-build and we discovered that one of the rods has a crack in it. Any leads would be appreciated. The photo shows the measurements of the current conrod. Thank you. Regards Mike

The rally was in Surrey and West Sussex in the UK. There are several other active DBs here, but not on this event. The only other American entries were a pair of Model A Fords.

Below are some picture of my Senior Six on its way to a class win in the Vintage Sports Car Club Spring Rally last weekend. I am not sure that the Dodge Brothers would have considered the Senior Six to be a sports car, but it ran faultlessly and handled the 95 mile course with ease. My car is a 2251 made after IS 26211 (the chassis number on my car is missing, but based on the engine number, the car was made around May 1928). i was not expecting a result so soon, but the timing is perfect. I am searching for a 4.454 to 1 ratio crown wheel and pinion for my 1928 Senior Six. (The car is currently fitted with the 4.72 to 1 axle ratio.) Hi Richard I am based in Greenwich and have a 2251 Senior. The car has been on the road only a few months and I am still sorting out the teething issues. It's latest outing was the VSCC's Measham Rally in mid-January. The rally runs all night but we were force to withdraw because the headlights I installed use more power than the dynamo produces. Hence, the battery went flat after about 2 hours. The rally moves up north next year. Perhaps we could field a team of Dodges? Regards Mike

At speeds approaching 50 mph (80 kph), the engine is laboring much too hard. The car seems happiest at 40 mph, but I cannot believe that the cruising speed would be that low given the size of the engine. I am hoping a taller final drive will give me 60 mph without sending the pistons through the bonnet. Thanks. Mike

I have been very quietly reading along with the forum while I have been shaking down the Senior, which has been surprisingly trouble free. The car has nearly 1000 miles on it since completion and I am pleased to report that we successfully completed a road rally in France last weekend. I am attaching before and after pictures of the car. The start photo was taken at the Aire du Cap near Calais and shows the car's new head (thank you again Ron Lawson!). The second picture is in the village of Hesdin about 20 km from the finish (it took hours to wash all of the mud off). We got a lot of attention because we were the only car with the navigator seated in the back! The tripmeter and potty were on long leads and the arrangement worked very well. One of the other entrants was in a 1929 Chrysler 70, so there was a lot of comparing and contrasting, but I think the cars have little in common given that Chrysler did not have much influence on my car which we think was made in May 1928. We did have one Monthy Python moment on the trip home when on section of the steering wheel detached itself mid-corner, but our equilibrium was restored with a some champers and the missing section was restored with a bit of tape. Congrats! Great car. It took me three years to get my 2251 Senior back on the road. I wish you success in shorter time.

After a few weeks of hard work, I am pleased to be able to provide an update on my Senior. First, a really big -Thank You! - to Ron Lawson in Australia, who dug through his stash of old parts and came up with head that fit my car. Ron put in a lot of time on this project was kind enough to have the head skimmed and checked by his mechanic before he would release it. I really appreciate all of his efforts. All of his efforts were almost wasted, however, when DHL "misplaced" the package for several days. Fortunately, it turned up in near Leeds in the north of England. The head is now on the car and I took it for its first drives this week. I covered over 100 miles without a single problem. All that was required was a small adjustment to the throttle linkage after about 75 miles. I am very pleased with the steering, the brakes and the ride quality of the car. It is much better than some of the other 1920s car that I have driven in the past. There are still some issues to sort out and I have a list of questions to ask, but I think it would be better to start a specific thread for each issue. For now I just want to drive it and enjoy it. It is entered in a rally in France in mid-November, so I have some time to get things sorted. I have attached some pictures taken on Sunday. It is a 1937 Bentley special, 4250cc, originally built in Derby. It is a very well sorted car and we were very fortunate to borrow it when the Dodge was sidelined. After years if rallying a warm and dry MGB GT, this was the first time I could look a rain-soaked marshal straight in the eye! The rain (and fog) was a challenge, but we really enjoyed it. Back to the original thread, Ron L is retrieving his spare head from storage to see if it matches what I need. Has anyone else has any success? Thanks. Mike

I am back from the 3 Castles Rally, which was one of the wettest in recent memory! The substitute car for my headless Dodge was a friend's Bentley special which does not have a roof! At the tops of some of the passes, water came at us from so many directions at once that I now know how a dish feels in a dishwasher! At the end, we were pleased with 2nd in class.
