  1. Here's a 1933 Isotta Fraschini, Castagna when new, taken in Central Park, NY where so many of these classics were photographed by coachbuilders, manufacturers or in this case, must have been the distributor or dealer, & then later at Pacific Auto Rentals, with a 1939 CA license plate. looks like the Stephen Grebel headlights went missing, along with the original bumper.   Current internet shows the Grebel's are back on the car now!

On Jim's black car the belt line dives down on the upper portion of the rear fender, and on the red car the belt line seems to drop down in front of the rear fender. What are the odds of two Hisso's with similar body styles being in the Chicago area around the same time?

Jim used to talk about shows at the old O'Hare stadium and how everyone drove their classics to them.

Well you're right - 2 different cars - but both were at O'Hare Stadium, maybe separated by some time.  Nelson Thorpe, who is the knower of all things Hispano, sent me this info, with more Babette!   Nelson says " The car is 14019, now owned by Sir Michael Kadoorie ".  It was shown at Pebble in 2013.

  3. I think this '35 Hispano Suiza J12, Owned by W. Boone and seen in this super 8 film still at the 1966 O'Hare Stadium CCCA concours is the same as the "Babette" car.  Our friend Jim was quite a wheeler-dealer, so it's pretty likely that from the 50's to the 60's that car found a new home.  And possibly the same venue, Ohare was open from 56 to '68,  with that pony wall, fence & grandstands in the background.

  4. Ok here's some more Isotta Fraschini - This time a very unusual LeBaron "Surrey".  The Picture of the car and the drawing look really close.    Re the previous picture -  Rudolph Valentino had 2 Isottas - the town car, a Fleetwood body, and a convertible coupe.  Here's a pic of the Valentino I-F town car from the estate sale catalog also. Catalog states Fleetwood.

  5. Ok guys - the old fasteners will work, just need to clean 'em up the studs with a wire brush.

There's a theory over on some vintage bicycle forum about 5/16X20 being super close to 8MMX1.25  .   So I did get some of those at the store,  if they work smoothly I'll use 'em, but only if they feel right.

Tomorrow is water & Oil day,  water jacket back on,  gano filter for the upper radiator hose, and fill it with water.  And some fresh 600W for the transmission.   New tires went on today.

  6. Hi - I'm new to this Locomobile forum.  Just got a 1921 Locomobile model 48.  Sat for years, and I'm in the process of carefully waking it up.  I'm checking the lower cylinder water jackets by removing the water distribution tube. it's nice and clean in there, thankfully.  however, I wonder what is the thread size / pitch for the water distribution tube?   It seems like it ought to be 5/16X18 ,  but after some checking, it's not.   Was Locomobile using whitworth threads?  or some other thread specification?  Thanks, Steve

I posted that Murphy Lincoln page from the salon catalog some time ago, so looks like it has been recycled again with no credit to me. Unless someone else has the same salon souvenir catalog . Please give credit where credit is due, as I have done for the past 50 years in anything and everything I have shared.

Hey guys -  This did actually come from my photo and literature collection,  which was passed on to me by my folks, Bill & Jo Ellen Snyder.  They were avid document and picture hunters - they chased down some of the still living photographers back in the 1960's and 70's, and bought out anything car related - or in the case of the 1911 Chicago air show , aviation too!  There is a huge batch of Rolls/Bentley photos from a decades long pen pal in England,  Pacific auto rentals,  and lots of Packard factory and ACD pics.  So I give my folks the credit on the pics I've posted here.  I continue to be amazed by all of the pictures everyone has shared here!

  8. 1934 Packard Twelve Rollston Town car - counterweighted bumpers, finned head and parking lamps, and the unusual wood spoke wheels.  Where, however, are the Cloisonne emblems on the hubcaps?  Did Mr. Grumpy McDoublebreasted jacket specify the Packard Twelve logo on the hubcaps be covered up, because he will be gosh-darned if he's gonna give some American car company free advertising, when if he had his wish, he would be driving a Panhard et Levassor right there in Quebec?
