  3. You're correct John, I don't believe the steering wheel is correct for that column.
  4. It looks to be off of a 40s Plymouth pickup
  5. Disconnect the pitman arm from the center link, then turn the steering wheel from lock to lock. If the problem is in the gear it will continue to happen if its connected to the front end or not. If the problem goes away you know your looking at king pin / tie rod end issues. Also, as for the pitman arm being installed incorrectly, I believe the sector shaft has 4 wide splines on that gear. If so the pitman arm can go on one of 4 ways.
  6. From what I understand (I could be wrong) the reason gas cost are so low is the suppliers in the middle east are dropping the price per barrel to compete with the American market. The trouble that they're running into is that we can keep our cost per barrel by shipping out of ND down to less than $50 a barrel. It's just a matter of finishing the pipeline. We'll see what the future has in store for us. This is the information I received from a friend who was working in the North Dakota oil fields. I have no proof to back it up, except of course the low gas prices.
  7. Congrats! Looks like a fun project. I have an almost complete parts car. Let me know if there is anything you might need. I'll take a look at the rims and hubcaps once it gets a bit warmer out. It was -10°f not including the wind chill this morning, so no long trips outside for this guy.
  8. I hope everyone has a great, and safe holiday weekend! Talk to you in 2015.
  9. Tim, I'm very sorry to hear that your mother also passed. I only met them once, but your entire family was very kind. I'll never forget the look on their face seeing that car again. May they both rest in piece, and enjoy the rest of eternity together.
  10. 63-64 Uses a 5/8" Shaft. 65-66 Uses a 9/16" shaft. Someone also may have used an over sized key when they installed the pulley last.
  11. I agree that the nephew should pick out the stereo. You may spend twice as much on an OE style radio than you would on the aftermarket he may prefer. I would say be careful what outfit you let install the stereo. There is a big name electronics store local to me that installed the DVD player in my 2007 Trailblazer. I had to take it back twice to just to get it to function. Since I've personally had to pull the dash apart two more times to find all the problems with their wiring. At first when they got done I could hear the engine through the speakers, if my heated seats were turned on the radio station would change to some random station playing static, and the DVD portion of it wasn't even hooked up. With that said, if the El Comino dash had to be modified to install an aftermarket stereo make sure you check the references on that individual location. Don't just trust the name on the building.
  12. 1936 Studebaker Dictator Coupe is my rough guess
  13. I've seen -45°F. If it never happens again it will be too soon. It took less then a minute to get frost bite on any skin exposed.
