  1. I hope to see all of you Buick guys and gals!
  2. The 605 is a Saginaw gear, and you're 100% correct about the ratio. The design of the gear isn't great though. They're prone to leaking, and having early wear. In my opinion having a bit better ratio is not enough of an upside to overlook the downsides of using this gear. The comparison is similar to a Buick, and a Yugo. They may both be cars, but only one will preform as it should for years to come.
  3. Darren, Did you purchase the pump from our stock, or send a core in for rebuild? I'm more than happy to help get this issue resolved in any way I can. Please give me a call when you get a chance. My toll free number is 1-800-334-5749. Ask for Dan. Please try to have your invoice number handy if it's available. Thanks, Dan
  4. Joe is right on the money with this one. While the internal design is almost identical to the 1964+ steering gear the mounting locations are very different.
  5. I would stay away from the 605 box. By design it's really not a great steering gear. There were many problems with it even when new. I try to steer (no pun intended) anyone I can away from using that gear after the horror stories I've heard working here. The Saginaw gear that is in the car now is a much better design, and much more reliable when built correctly.
  6. Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you have an excellent holiday season!
  7. I'll date myself a bit. I took my licence test in a 2000 Monte Carlo SS.
  8. Hello all, I wanted to apologize to those of you who have been sending me messages on here. Since the forum upgrade I no longer receive the notification emails. My settings will be changed shortly, so that this issue shouldn't come up again. In the last few months I've been promoted at work, so the time I have to cruise the forums has been extremely limited. The good news is I've been able to dedicate a bit more time at the shop trying to keep everything on the road. The Firebird is getting ready to be taken apart. I've bought the remaining parts that I needed to get it roadworthy again, so expect a restoration thread before long. I've also ordered the parts needed for the ol' Studebaker. So many parts, so little time. Since my time has become so limited I've got another gentleman that I'm working with who will be covering any steering questions that I might have missed. I'd like to introduce Steve. He is a very nice, and helpful car guy. I would appreciate it if everyone gave him the same warm welcome that I received. You're all such a great group of people. There is more collective knowledge about classic vehicles on this forum than I've found anywhere else. Steve, and I would like to contribute any knowledge we have as well. Feel free to ask us any questions you might have, and we'll do our best to get you a solution. Thanks everybody!! -Dan
  9. It's great to see a completely original car in that shape. Great story behind it as well!
  10. Excellent work so far! I bet it felt like finding a pot of gold when you realized everything was labeled. I'm looking forward to seeing this progress.
  11. I stopped getting notifications for this. I apologize. Ask and ye shall receive.
  12. If you lost pressure that is a pump problem. Odds are there was some air in your system, and it went past the flow control valve causing it to hang up. When the pump was rebuilt the valve would have been removed which would have freed up the jam. Once it is free you will have pressure again.
  13. I was in Orlando last week. We stopped at Cocoa Beach and I fried myself to a crisp. I completely understand what you mean. Thankfully the weather this time of year is pretty nice in my neck of the woods.
  14. No problem! That is one of many parts that go to that gear. It is a big mess of parts.
