That was definitely a control valve issue inside of the rack. Rack and pinion systems wont have an adjustment for the control valve like the Chrysler gear that NTX5467 is talking about. The only solution is a new rack. I know you've resolved this already, but it never hurts to put this information on here for the next guy searching for a solution to this issue.

Any updates on this beauty? I know it's been a while, but I really enjoyed seeing this build.

The main thing you need to make sure of is that you have a matching worm gear and sector shaft. If you use a different input (With worm gear installed) and try to use the old sector shaft you'll run into binding issues. I'd be happy to try to ID what you have if you'd like to email me pictures of the steering gears.
Send them to danjones@larescorp.com

How about a 1916 Cadillac?
-
It looks close to a 1917 Model T touring.
-
It looks to me like a 1915 Overland. Possibly a model 80.

October 1st Heimdall Classic Car & Motorcycle Club is hosting the Stop Domestic Abuse classic car & motorcycle cruise to raise money for the local domestic abuse refuge. All proceeds will go to the refuge.
We are trying to help those in need, and domestic abuse is no joke. There are far too many deaths each year due to domestic violence simply because the victim felt like there was no help available. We want to make sure people know there are other options.
For more information about the event please email us at events@heimdallccmc.com.
If you can't make it and would like to donate to the cause you can do so here gofundme.com/2ftyutzf
I hope to see you there! -
My oh my, am I seeing this BEFORE Mr.E????
Nice 54. By far one of my favorite body styles. Definitely on my bucket list to own one. I'm excited to see this one come back to life!

Ian,
Thinking about the problem you may run into with local law enforcement having a real looking weapon. Would you be able to make an orange cap like the one pictured for the end, or would that not make a difference? Even if the orange cap was removable so you didn't have it on during shows. I imagine this would help anyway.

It looks like another fun project. Are you going to keep this one once it's finished?

Lawrence,
Are you talking about the pump not moving freely in the mounting bracket? There have been some clearance issues with the mounting bracket and a bearing style Saginaw pump before.
You have to remove some of the metal to make the bearing style pump work. Let me know if this resolves your issue or not.
Thanks,
Dan

Robert,
Disconnect your pitman arm from the control valve, then try to turn the steering wheel again. Have someone watch the sector shaft.
My guess is there is an internal problem with your steering gear. When you turn the input shaft the output shaft should keep turning. If it stops turning and starts again even though you're continuing to turn the input then your gear is in trouble.
Let me know what you find out.

We expect to be in North Mankato, MN July 14-16 for the AACA Central Division Meet
Sorry that will be a month late for the get-together
Marty,
That's too bad. Maybe we need to get a bunch of the local Buick folk to grab some coffee one of the days your up here. Let me know if you have some free time once your here.

Well if you decide to make the trip I'm currently discussing discount rates with the hotel that's less than 2 blocks away from the show. Anyone in need of a room for the night please let me know.

I've seen the William Clay Ford Mark II in person. It is a beautiful car, and a great color. Although I believe I'm far more impressed by your work Roger!
