  1. 1955 (blue), 1956 (black), and 1961 (red) Mercedes-Benz 300 SL.
  2. One might consider the use of Tef Gel on stainless fittings to limit corrosion of dissimilar metals and galling of the fittings themselves.
  3. If you're asking this question on the internet, you probably do not have enough experience to do it safely.
  4. Aiding and abetting politicians seems like a silly reason to keep a car.
  5. Obviously fuel "pressure" in a gravity feed system will be negligible - depending only upon the vertical distance between the fuel tank and the carburetor. Unless you can source a pressure regulator that can be dialed down to almost zero, your best bet may be to resurrect the gravity system. The common regulators in use today can be set at 2-3 psi for carburetors, but even that may be too much for a carburetor designed for gravity feed.
  6. Antique and classic car ownership is not a spectator sport. If the asking price is several times more that the cost of air fare, get off the couch and visit the product prior to purchase.
  7. I'm having difficulty following Nick's train of thought. I suspect his attorney is having difficulty as well. A failure in communication between client and counsel is next to impossible to resolve.
  8. Thanks for adding the reference. I had no idea what an "elevator bolt" was.
  9. While I never had a Thunderbird, I did have a 1956 Fairlane Sunliner that was a very reliable and well constructed vehicle. Was there really that much difference between the Thunderbird and the rest of the Ford line? FWIW, based solely on appearance and general "sportiness," I'd trade in an instant, and I'm a GM/Corvette person..
  10. Wartime effort to save metal by not replacing the entire plate for the new year.
  11. I've had this number since the early 1960s on a variety of vehicles. When the Porsche turned 25 I went to the old plate pile and selected the appropriate ones for YOM use.
  12. Excellent suggestion that can be used by anyone experiencing similar problems and particularly for an intermittent short.. Too bad that some of the responders get diverted into personal attacks and fail to remember that we're here to help and not to impress others as to how smart we are. .
  13. I wasn't aware that the Nigerian princes were now buying automobiles. Good thing that they now have an agent in the USA to handle tranactions for them.
  14. If the picture is recent may we assume that the car was rolled out of the garage for a photo op. If so an easy way to check if the engine turns, after squirting some oil through the spark plug holes, is to place the car in gear and gently rock it back and forth on its tires. This motion should then be translated to corresponding motion by the pistons. With luck, your greatest problem will lie with stale gasoline requiring draining of the tank and cleaning of the carburetor. Take your time with the resurrection as it's taken a while for the car to assume its current state of repose and it must be awakened gradually. If the car's outward appearance is any indication you may be surprised at how little work it will take to get it running. By the way, if you supply us with your location, you may find knowledegable Packard people literally in your backyard.
  15. To be truly scared just remember these same people or their siblings are manning the TSA checkpoints at our airports.
  16. Southeast corner of Roanoke Avenue and Middle Road in Riverhead, New York. Now office space, was a foreign car repair shop in the 1980s and, from the markings, a Studebaker facility sometime prior to that. Perhaps someone else knows the details about the dealership.
  17. Frame Chevrolet, Jericho Turnpike, Mineola, New York, before it became a bakery outlet. It may have been razed by now.
  18. Iron Range Days - wonderful memories. Still have all sorts of things acquired there, some have been put in service, others stand (lie) ready.
  19. Remember the original question. Mr. Gregory is not asking about mechanical damage to a radiator or thoughts about proactive replacement of cooling components. He simply wants to know if metal through aging loses the ability to dissipate (transfer) heat.
  20. Here's a start. Much more information via searches. https://petrolicious.com/articles/the-sabra-gt-is-the-sports-car-from-israel-you-ve-been-waiting-for Here's more: https://www.google.com/search?q=Road+%26+Track+article+on+Sabra+auto&rlz=1C1FGGD_enUS497&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwir3tLlnYTfAhUpmuAKHUGDBHEQsAR6BAgAEAE&biw=1440&bih=785 Quite honestly, the subject does not interest me enough to wade through all the Rad & Track stuff. but you should be able to find what you want with a little effort.
  21. Here's a story from another website about AACA's willingness to accept and consider supplemental information before reaching a final conclusion. If only other organizations would follow suite. http://www.912bbs.org/vb/showthread.php?54532-Correct-Air-Cleaners-for-67-912&highlight=AACA
