  1. A friend of mine used a roller to paint his Freightliner. I have to admit the paint job turned out nice.
  2. Look!!! Oklahoma has a football team. The stadium is being built as we speak! Going to be nice. Enjoy!
  3. $8000-$12000 appears to be the good figure. However, as someone mentioned in this thread, when the paint comes off and metal work is found to be needing work the cost will increase. Usually at will. Shops that are cash only seem very sketchy to me. I'm a contract guy. Estimate is agreed on. Metal work if required, hourly rate? Earl Sheib has not painted a car for $99.99 since the 80's. As far as Macco...I have seen the paint job peeling in under a year. Find a shop with good reviews. Normally shops will have a book of past projects with pictures, etc.
  4. I would not say these LED are garbage. These work and provide a red color. I can say the lumens of this LED appear about the same as the incandescents. So it does not justify the cost IMO. The plasma appear very bright and almost to a fault. Truthfully, sitting behind a 2016 Caddy with these type of lights on full tilt when braking is blinding. When does bright become too bright? In my case with a single bulb in each socket(54 Buick) I suspect the plasma would look great and not overbearing with light for hose behind me! Thanks for posting the video! It is nice to see all three side by side in action. We can also state that it is nice to see LED/plasma replacements that go directly into the sockets already on our vehicles. No major work on socket replacements, etc. Sooner or latter incandescents will go the way of the house incandescent bulbs.
  5. I took a look for LED bulbs for classics for interest sake, the LED are available. The base of the bulb is as you would find in an 1157/1156 so it will fit your current socket. The light generating portion is LED. Interesting. https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/tail-brake-turn/
  6. Another good video of a 57 Super. I'm guessing the speedo red bar was "high" tech at the time. I got my phone car mount. Now need to find the time to take the ride and record!
  7. Fortunately the 3rd brake light is a help with this. I remember when the 3rd brake light was introduced. I could not stand the look. Today, I'm glad it is there because many cars have non-working or partial working brake lights(bulbs blown). Dull lights or those that jam in the bulb incorrectly that makes the brake light filament illuminate all the time or is on the running light circuit just burning bright like the brakes are engaged.
  8. Sounds like a good idea to me. But, some are going to be stuck with the quality or lack there of concerning what phone is used for video. At any rate, attempting a few positions of the phone/camera will prove to be useful in getting what you want out of the recorded ride. It will be fun to experience another Buick in action. My noted interest in your video is listening for the Dynaflow. I have never been in a Dynaflow Buick. I would like to see what the 59 Invicta or LeSabre is like. The 59 is my favorite. My phone holder is on the way. Maybe I can get in a recorded ride this weekend.
  9. Funny you say that because I would lay in the back of our 73 Estate Wagon and hear the snow tires through the floor humming away.
  10. I ordered a cellphone holder for the car so I can video a drive. Since we have a photo thread maybe a driving video thread would be in order. As we know, we can not enjoy actually driving or experience a drive in each others car physically but a video of a drive would do the trick. Kick it off with Buick Man video! Best one I have at the moment. http://vid39.photobucket.com/albums/e182/Warhawk1-avg/WP_20160827_005_zpsqsqx2tfh.mp4
  11. He has the bug already! You and your grandson are the definition of "passing it down from generation to generation."
  12. Joe, I did not say Ebay ruined anything for me. I said "for some." The widget is just my example. You are missing the point perhaps or I'm not explaining it well. If an items is a one of a kind often it is called "rare" and has a price tag to match. Some take advantage as a result because others do believe it truly is one of a kind. The "for some" ruined by Ebay are those that portend to state an item is very rare and the price tag will match only to find others are posting the exact same items on Ebay. Their once "rare expensive item" is found not to be rare after all. The pricing drops as a result. Flooded market, price drop. Supply and demand. The idea is that Ebay and RA ruined the crazy price market prices by demonstrating that some items are not as rare as the seller likes to portray. For those that look to deceive are now up against the information age (ebay, internet) and that has ruined it for them(and their wallets).
  13. Thomas the Tank Train keeps the toy train alive. I have a nephew that first witnessing of a toy train was my home last year. I have a HO train garden. I was running an articulated 12 wheel drive Booth Kelly logger. From that moment on my nephew because a lunatic for Thomas the Tank Train. He is absolutely fascinated with toy trains. I think for some being introduced to toys of the past is all it takes for them to grow an interest in the toy/hobby.
  14. You qualified the marine chronometer for me in your second short paragraph. I read your first sentence thinking your liking of the chronometer is the design, function, engineering and how it works. For me, the mechanism behind certain items of old is really fascinating much like your chronometer.
  15. It as ruined a market for some. Ref the clock seller story in this thread. Think about this...I have a widget. I have never seen another widget like it. It is a rare widget then. Very expensive as a result. Then a new means of selling items appears. Soon widget after widget appear on this new selling site. My once rare widget I have never seen before is not so rare after all. My once very valuable widget is not worth much and now ruined for me. Let's take it a bit further, Ebay has opened doors to less than honest people as well.
  16. Concerning eBay, as it appears to have ruined one market(antique furniture) it has helped with other things. Like that part for your Hudson 6 states over that you would never had known existed if it where not for eBay. I remember back in the 80's at the local junkyard operator getting on the phone and repeating a part that he was looking for until another yard called advising he/she had the part.
  17. This is how I regard my items. These are things I enjoy. As long as I'm here I'm going to enjoy them. I have no interest in what the items can sell for since I don't plan on selling any of it. For me, this is the best way to view items in your possessions that were purchased because the item interested you.
