  1. Buick 455 Stage 1 engine with an 800CFM Holley The Buick won, even with momentary vapor lock.
  2. Interesting and good mix of tastes. What is the white car with blue stripes?
  3. Brings back memories of my 1960 A. Sometime in 1970 I redid the scuttle (?) trim piece on top of the dash and the one behind the seat. I glued up some piping over clothesline from the same black vinyl I used and it was easy enough that it looked pretty good for an 18 year-old’s effort. There’s a lot to be said for the effect of passion and interest to drive effort. The jute is important- my A had none and got hot under the dash in the summer. I’m enjoying your progress.
  4. Good to see, and the spare cover looks great! I assume since you’re reusing the original jute there’s no odor.
  5. Agree with Mr. Perkins about the color combination and cleaned up the patina will look great. I wouldn’t paint it, but maybe a gloss or matte clear coat… The seats I’ve seen that were upholstered in contemporary fabrics detract from the car - SMS Fabrics in Oregon will probably have the correct fabric for the 48 Pontiac, they have the fabric for my 49 Buick. I’m looking forward to updates on this car and a YouTube or two of it running!
  6. Beautiful! How long have you owned it? There was a black 49 Roadmaster Sedanette in Illinois for sale on the Forum a few weeks ago, is this that one?
  7. The owner has good taste in automobiles. Is this a Super or Roadmaster? Is Carlsbad Black (code 01) the original color?
  8. That’s just a great picture. The angle of the car, the autumn colors and gray clouds artfully combine to produce a distinctive mood.
  9. Great story! I also appreciate Bloo’s insights.
  10. I bought an Atlas 8,000 lb 4-post lift in May of 2021. The only two complaints I have are that 1) the pulley shafts are not drilled for a zirk and grease channels and must be removed for greasing and 2) the Atlas plastic guide blocks have too much play in them for my comfort. Most lifts have 2 plastic “guide blocks” that attach to each end of the crossmember (gantry), 8 total, and serve to guide them snugly during travel within the respective upright channel. I ordered a replacement set from Atlas under their tech support advisement (over $250 with shipping) because I noticed this year that I could get the lift to sway as much as an inch with a car on it. When I removed the old guide blocks, their measurements were the same as the new ones, indicating no wear. The lift has the same give with the new ones. The Atlas hydraulic pump, motor, hose and ram have been reliable and are almost leak-free - just an occasional drop of hydraulic oil at the junction of the supply hose fitting and the ram cylinder. The steel uprights, runways and crossmembers are powder coated and appear to be of sufficient quality steel with good welds. I didn’t anchor the lift since it was shipped with casters for each corner and I can move it between bays with very little trouble. Today’s price for the same lift is about $3800 vs $2600 I paid in May ‘21. Overall - it’s an OK lift. With no guide block play and drilled pulley shafts, it would be a great lift.
  11. 53 Mack, ahem, I beg to differ😉. The styling of the 48-49 Oldsmobile 98, 49 Buick Super & Roadmaster and 48-49 Cadillac Club coupes is a narcotic. Below is my Super. Hans, I also seized an opportunity in 2021 with a panel truck and completed a body-off-frame in 20 months, and the truck lacked an engine, transmission, drive shaft and seat, so you will prevail! You did the right thing and will avoid the regret of a missed opportunity. I will be following this project.
  12. Very nice! For me during the body-off restoration on my panel truck, the big jobs were the easiest and most rewarding, like this one. The “last mile” was the toughest for me by far - the scores of hookups, troubleshooting, adjustments, etc. but this looks fabulous! In your shoes right now it would be very hard for me to not be in the garage.
  13. I always appreciate a lighted antique car dash at night! The good news about your windshield is it is 2 panes of flat safety glass, readily available, and a good glass shop can round corners using the originals as templates. Installing a split windshield can be a challenge though.
  14. Proper concern Coyote (been following your Corvette refresh - thorough work!), but Bloo is correct. This is a Carter WCD with the fuel port on the left (unseen) in this picture. The vacuum line is what is running near the manifold. Over the last three weeks I’ve had to learn a lot about the WCD on my 49 Buick. Don’t ask me why.
  15. Looks great - hope to see it with Miss Piggy tomorrow at Laura Buick!
  16. Great looking car Adam, 71 was a major change year that I remember well. I could be talked into a 71 Centurion 2 Dr hardtop…if I had a place to put it.
  17. Don’t see the problem-the mounting screw can conduct electricity. OTOH, the commutator isn’t too happy…
  18. Nice e ample Steve. How many miles do you have on it? Any quality issues?
  19. Good & useful history, thanks. I appreciate the early hemis and considered buying one for my panel truck restoration.
  20. Thanks Jack and at the time that also crossed my mind, but the charge settled down a little over a week ago and now reads slight positive. All good.
