  1. A good idea when moving a car that has been inactive for a while is always pump the brakes first to establish a good pedal. This is even more so on an old car with a single master cylinder. Even better is to check the brake fluid first. That brake fluid went somewhere. There must be a small leak.

Hydraulic shops that make high and low pressure hoses for refrigeration and industrial use usually have a good selection of bands and clamps. They have the tools to crimp or install them properly.
  3. If you have the 307 Olds engine it's not unusual for them to get old and smokey. Some times this is due to piston and ring damage caused by long term octane knocking and pinging. This might be caused faulty EGR valve or EGR system being carbon clogged. Ignition timing is a little tricky to set. You have to follow the shop manual instructions closely. I had this happen to an 85 307 Olds 88. When I first got it it pinged badly and burned oil. I repaired the EGR system, the ping went away and the oil consumption went way down. A couple years later it blew a piston.
  4. Yes that's the fuel filter. It's the old porous bronze type, the open end faces out and there should be a spring in behind it to push it up against the inside of the fitting.Sometimes there is a flat gasket between the filter and the fitting. These were on a lot of GM cars and are still available.
  5. I don't know about Marmons but on most old cars pulling the handle out locked out overdrive. Pushing it in allowed overdrive. The fact that it freewheels indicates you are in the overdrive position. Are you sure your car has overdrive and not just freewheeling?
  6. Your car is a 65 the other car you show is a 64. The 64 body is completely different from the 65 so none of it's trim pieces will fit your car. Side trim from a 65 Montclair or Park Lane will fit your car but wouldn't be correct. You have a nice car there, you don't want to drill a lot of holes in it.
  7. Do it all through the mail. Print the form out from the NYDMV site. Follow the directions exactly. Be sure your insurance card says "historical" . I've done it four times so far. Shouldn't be too hard.
  8. I had a 66 Electra with cruise. There was no speed buzzer on cruise equipped cars. Buicks were unusual in that the cruise speed sensor was in the speedometer head. When the car got old the speedometer needle would bounce over 50 mph and so did the cruise control. I didn't use the cruise after that.
  9. Back then they called for SAE 30 in summer , 20W20 in cooler weather. 10W was only recommended for extreme cold weather to aid cold starting. No hydraulic lifters so detergent wasn't required. Tractor Supply has plenty of single weight non detergent oil. I like single weight oil in old cars although I have also have had good luck with 15W40 and 20W50.
  10. Go to a NAPA store . They can get it in a day or two.
  11. Check the accelerator pump . Look down the throat . As you open the throttle you should see a small stream of gas shoot down the throat. If not check the linkage it may be dis connected or out of adjustment. Or you may have to take the top off and look further. A way out of adjustment power valve might do this too.
  12. According to the 1955 Hollander Interchange. 49-52 Styline sedan 2 & 4 door & Business coupe #741 49-52 Fleetline #747 49-52 Conv & Hardtop #744 49-52 Wagon #759 . #747 also fits 49-51 Pontiac Streamliner and 49-50 Olds 76 & 88 club sedan & town sedan . The Olds listing is not really clear.
  13. Try the Kaiser Club forum KFOCI . They have a registry of almost all the known Dragons.
  14. Visit the Kaiser Club forum KFOCI and post a question. You'll get answers. Have your vin and underhood body plate numbers available. Even better, join the club. It has amassed tons of Kaiser information. I joined years ago they have been a great source of help and information.
  15. Try Universal Auto 900 Broadway Albany NY 12207 tel 518 465 3471 They make ,balance and rebuild driveshafts both steel and aluminum.
  16. They make clear coat in a number of gloss levels. I had my 65 Mercury half painted. The paint store supplied clear to approximate 1965 gloss. It matched the original paint perfectly. I think old cars don't look right with too shiny paint. The super high gloss also makes any imperfections more noticeable.
  17. My father bought a new 58 Olympia Caravan wagon. This was the first year of the new body style. It was a good trouble free car. Five New York winters did it in. The blue alkyd enamel finish looked like primer and it was rusted everywhere including the chrome. Capitol Buick no longer had parts for it after it was four years old. He got $100. trade in on a new 63 Valiant.
  18. My grandfather got a deal on a new Durant after they went out of business. No warrantee,no service,no parts,no resale value. That's an orphan!
  19. Sounds like the car isn't fully warming up .Probably needs a thermostat. The fans won't overcool the engine if the thermostat is working properly. The rough idle may be caused by a leaking or stuck EGR valve. You could test for this by removing the EGR and making some type of plug or plate to seal the EGR holes. If the idle smoothes out get an EGR valve. If not you have eliminated the EGR as the problem.
  20. A friend of mine recently bought a very low mile original 66 Caprice coupe, 283 2 bbl, PS,PB etc three speed manual on the column with overdrive.
  21. Hope you have the 57 Ford manual covering this, absolutely necessary. Sounds like a limit switch problem. The top mechanism goes from one operation to the next by tripping the various limit switches. Sounds like one or more of them is faulty or out of adjustment.
  22. Try these www.maxmerrittauto.com or www.kanter.com They should have what you need. I have dealt with both for 48 Super 8 parts. Both were reliable.
