  1. My '55 belvedere had the original owner under the hood. His last request was to be creameated and sprinkled around the engine bay. He mostly resides at the quarter wash down the street now.
  2. Pushed the car out today after bolting the rear end in and removing the jackstands, I also needed to clean the floor beneath the car. There is a 3/4" rake with the 4 door springs, much better than the 1.5" reverse rake that was there before.
  3. Iowa is interesting, If you vehicle is more than 25 years old you can bolt on YOM plates and throw the modern state issued ones under the seat. No registration of YOM plates required! And absolutely no record of your vehicle with that YOM plate number anywhere! I've never been pulled over for them on my 1930 or 1940. I get pulled over once a month in my 1986, I have a copy of the vehicle code in the glove box and present it to the officer, I actually have several copies because they normally crumple it up and throw it back at me.
  4. Eventually I'd like to drive it out to CA and give him a ride, I hauled it out to Des Moines this spring. I have been working on it since the middle of July. I put a scare bird front disc kit on and rebuilt the rear drum setup. I swapped in a 3.6 third member and ran new brake lines. I fabricated a mount and installed a wilwood dual chamber master cylinder. The rear springs were a little saggy so I swapped in the set from my 4 door parts car. Mr. Flower installed a floor shift conversion kit and I would like to switch back to the column shift if the linkage will fit by his exhaust and throttle linkage. He gas welded a dual exhaust system together and installed some long glass packs. When I first looked under the car I saw muffler clamps every 16 inches going up both sides. I have a friend that ownes an exhaust shop in CA and took it over for a new system. Once we got the car on the lift he couldn't believe the quality of Mr. Flower's work. He used muffler clamps to bolt the exhaust to the frame. The exhaust was very solid and it's ridiculous how ridged it is. He said there was no need for a new system as he doubted he could have run it that well. He did agree to cut it close to the manifolds and install two flexible sections to allow the engine to torque. Mr. Flower never got the car running to try out his exhaust work, and to keep it from rusting he dumped oil down it. I'm having the radiator recored and then have to get enough electrical ran to try starting the engine. This winter I will hopefully rewire the entire car and try redoing the upholstery.
  5. 20 something years ago Mr. Flower bought the mobile home next to my patent's house, I was 8 at the time and with growing up next to my grandparents appreciated the knowledge that could be gained from a person with more life experience. He was a single man that was very smart and had countless degrees. At some point he had a brain tumor that left half his face paralyzed. He and I became great friends over the years as I grew up. One day I was doing yard work for him and he told me to go get a shovel out of his garage. I forgot about the shovel when I opened the door and saw his grandfather's 1941 Buick sedanette inside. It took me quite a few years of talking and pestering till he finally admitted that he wanted me to have the car when he passed. He had grown up with the car and his grandfather willed it to him. It was a dealer promotional car that his grandfather bought in 1942. His grandfather drove the crap out of the car. Mr. Flower drove the car while he attended orange county college in California. Around 1954 the girl was ready for her 3rd engine and was put in storage. He kept aquiring parts for the car and in the late 70's had a 1950 264 rebuilt, he also had the trans and front end rebuilt. The car had electrical problems and he started rewiring the car. Eventually it got moved to the back burner and sat. 20 years later I saw her and had to have her. He said the car was mine when he passed. It took me another 10 years of pestering till he decided that I wouldn't have to wait that long. He gave me the car this spring, along with all the parts he had collected though out the years. I pulled the motor and tore it down to check it out. He wasnt kidding when he said it was rebuilt and never started. I emptied the trunk this afternoon and attached is a picture of some of the stuff inside. I plan on getting her running and adding to my other daily drivers.
  6. I ended up putting a set of tires on that have a 4 ply sidewall, it's a 215/85 truck tire with 10 tread plys and is very close to the 6.50x16 bias size that was on the car. I haven't driven the car yet but with 45 psi there isn't much of a low pressure look sitting in the garage
  7. Hi Reg, It's out here in Des Moines IA, it actually came from from a guy on Garden highway by sac airport. I bought it because it had an R6 od with it. My parents might be coming out town vist in the spring and they might haul it to Grass Valley for you, or I might be driving out again in the spring too.
  8. I'd be careful eliminating the rivets and just using the lugs to hold the drum to the hub. I worked on a '49 where the po had done that, on that case the rivets kept the drum concentric to the hub and the holes in the drum for the lugs to pass through were a larger diameter than the lugs. There was no way to center the drum and it caused the brake pedal to pulsate during braking.
  9. Now I'm worried, I have what I believe to be a 53 block with a 41 dual intake set up on it. You think a cooling issue caused the problems with #8? Did it run hot?
  10. Hi, I was wondering where you all get your engine number reference from? I've searched the Forum and Google trying to find a list that would tell me what engine i have in my '41 46s. The block number is 58292705
  11. Here is a picture of one that was in one of the crates of parts that came with my 1941 46s, it might be a spare but I haven't had the chance to clean the parts out of the trunk yet and see if there is another one in there.
  12. 1939 Chrysler 6 cylinder engine pulled from a running car 2 years ago, I didn't see it run as the previous owner pulled it before I bought it. If someone is serious about it I can hook up a battery and try firing it up, otherwise it will stay buried in the shed. Complete from carb to pressure plate. $150 obo
  13. Hi, The tappet and adjusting bolt are both 1/2 inch on my spare 30U engine. I have non water and fuel pump engine out in the shed but it's buried or I'd check that one for you too.
  14. Hi Steve, The C was missing on my two door so I used the one off my parts car
  15. Pulled it off today and measured it, from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the other bolt hole is 3.25 inches. $10 shipped domestically if your still interested
  16. Except that it's got a 45° bend on it rather than the 90°, might not make a huge difference to the OP. Looks just like the one I will be putting on my 41 to replace the 90°
  17. This is on a '53 264 motor, looks about the same to me just mounted 180° around from yours, do you happen to know if they are the same? I can take measurements if youd like
  18. Sorry about how that, my two door is a 46s a sport coupe, the parts car is a 41. Looking at the scanned documents it appears that the 41 high spring is the same # as the 200lb overloads for the 46s, seems interesting. I'll have to pull the rear end out of the 41 and see what they are now that I have the part numbers. I checked for spacers in the front but didn't find any, the front had new springs installed in the 1970s and it looks a lot better now that I have the original 16 inch wheels and new tires on. Before I had put a 15 inch wheel on the front to roll the car out of the previous owner's shed. Thanks!
  19. My sedanette is lower in the rear than the front by a couple inches, I do not like the lowered look and wondered if someone else has changed their rear springs out? I have the 4 door parts car, did they come with heavier rear springs?
  20. The outermost layer of upholstery does not have a center arm rest, I'll tear into it and see what's underneath.
  21. I'm starting to dismantle the car for the parts I want or need for my two door, if someone is interested in something let me know. I will be saving most everything that will interchange with the two door, everything else is being scrapped.
