My new to me 31 , 60 series Buick 66S, runs great when the outside temp is around 60 and I make no stops. If I stop to get gas and start out again it starts to backfire thru the carb. If I pull the choke out about 1/2 of an inch it smooth's out and runs fine. I can slowly push the choke back in without problems. My guess is it is something heat related. I would appreciate any suggestions.

The serial number plate on a 39 Master Deluxe is mounted the cowl , passenger side, under the hood (not on the firewall). The Fisher Body plate is in the same location.
More info on the engine number, looking at the engine-fuel pump/distributor side, the stamping is just left of the distributor on a raised pad.

Sounds good. Need to swap Copperhead and shotgun stories. I prefer a 20 ga.

The serial number was not stamped on the frame of 1939 Chevrolets. As you probably know there is an engine serial number stamped on a pad on the fuel pump side of the motor but it does not relate to the serial number.

One word of caution, look at the car in person or find someone that knows about structural wood car bodies. You should verify the car has good wood. Doors solid - no movement at the hinges. Check the bottom of the A pillar at the sill. The wood is available from several suppliers but it is a lot of work to replace.

There are lots of parts available for 31 Chevrolets. Depending on the model some are harder to find than others but many parts are found everyday on the VCCA forum mentioned above.
Check out the Chevrolet parts site The Filling Station.
Many VCCA members also have parts, I bet I have 5,000 lbs of 31 Chevy parts. Don't give up too soon.

A friend of mine in the VCCA has a 33 Standard engine he would sell. Down side is it is in California. If you still need one send me a pm and I will pass along his contact info.

I have an owners manual you can have for the postage but it is not in good shape. Okay for the information but someone tore most of the cover off to pass on insurance info after an accident. The next page has the other drivers info written on it. Let me know.

Is the 1990001 a carb number or a number on a sub assembly? Most Delco Rochester part numbers start with a 7 or a 17. I can not find your number in any of my old books.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the Bob's part ends at the 1930 application but I may be able to find someone to make something from the drawing and instructions if Mark can't find his.

I can feel a little play in the fan hub and I can't find any details in repairing it in the manual. I did notice the gear in Bob's catalog. Is the gear the usual suspect on taking the play out? Any other parts I should source?

Could not edit in time. The diameter measurement is 1 3/8. If the shoulder is 1 3/8 it would work as well.

I should add it normally runs at 160 and when I say hot it is up around 170 to 180. I did do a search and found the heat riser can be a problem but would it run well at times and then not with pin holes in the heat riser tubes?
