I wish we had some sort of touring event closer to where we live here near Lima Ohio, but unfortunately we don't. I think it is because we have nothing to tour to. It's a rather depressing area! The wife and I are rather oddballs because our ages are young in the mid thirties with two kids. For some reason we tend to find we have more in common with the older generation. We have a 57 Buick and a 48 Plymouth to participate with. They aren't show cars, but are respectable drivers. The local car shows are nice, but I find them boaring after I have seen all the cars. That's why I think a tour might just be the right way to go about having fun with a classic car. It would be nice to attend such an event however, it seems as if I never here about anything until after it is over. Darren

I know this is probably a long shot, but if you have a set of 1975 pontiac lemans rocker mouldings I sure would like to know about them. In fact I would at least like a picture of them. I second this post. I too am younger and never really thought much about an early mopar car, but just recently bought one. I was thinking more along the lines of a GM make, but found that the mopar is more affordable with a plethera of parts available mechanically. They also have the suiside doors that you may be looking for and most are available for less than $10,000 for a nice example. Up for sale is my 1972 1/2 ton Chevrolet Cheyenne longbed truck. I hate to part with this beautiful truck because I'll probably never find another like it, but my circumstances have changed over the years. I bought this truck with just about 62,000 actual miles back in September 2001, and now it has 68,000 miles. We have had a blast with it through the years, and now it we have two kids, three and seven years of age. I don't need to tell you that the four of us cannot fit into a standard cab. Because of that I have only managed to drive it less than 300 miles in the last two years, which is a shame I know. However, I don't see that fact changing anytime soon! Recently we bought another vehicle that all four of us can enjoy, and when we feel the need to attend a car show that will be the vehicle of choice. The wife and I have enjoyed this truck very much and always get the stairs, thumbs up, and hand waves everywhere we go! You know what I mean. It makes you feel good to see the envy in the crowd. It just has that nice proud to own kind of feeling about it! The doors close with little effort, and it drives straight down the road. It's always been garaged and kept out of the winter salt. It has never left us stranded and I would feel confident to drive it across the country. However, it is a 40 year old truck, and it is not predictable. Now to describe the truck for sale, as stated it has a low 68,000 miles!! I'm certain these are actual miles, but there is no way of knowing for sure. However, the truck shows and feels as if it has 68,000 miles. I have some original paperwork that states the truck has spent time in Arizona, and I believe it is originally from that state. As far as I can tell the truck has all the original sheet metal that will unbolt like it was just assembled yesterday. The only rust that is visible rests below the battery tray on the right splash shield which is common, that's it!!! The bed and cab have got to be in the most rot free condition out there. I know everyone that has a vehicle to sell states that, but its true in this case. Just look at the pictures. I also had a buddy of mine verify the motor to be original to the truck. Over the years that I have owned it much has been done, but only what I felt was needed in order to maintain its appearance and dependability. I made every attempt to keep it original as much as possible. I have always thought that I preferred something original over something that was reproduced even if it meant learning to live with a few dents or scratches. I had no problem adjusting once I knew they were there. With that said this truck has a factory 350ci motor with a 4 barrel carb and a three speed on the column; working AC, which is not very common; power front disc brakes and drum rear; power steering; tinted blue glass, working AM radio; Oil, Temperature, and Battery gages; Optional large mirrors Here is a list of upgrades performed over my period of ownership; new lower blue paint applied four years ago, the white top has not been touched and believed to be original; carpet replaced three years ago; bed cover replaced two years ago; added a Reece hitch with a seven round and a trans cooler; the front suspension and steering has had many bushings and ball joints replaced; and new dual Flow Master exhausts replaced two years ago I'm asking for $15,900 or best offer! Ohio is great when it comes to hisorical plates. $30 for 50 years! You are supposed to only use the vehicle for parades, shows, and mechanical resons, but I do occasionally use mine for a trip to work or the ice cream shop. I don't by any means feel guilty for driving either vehicle. I have had a 1972 Chevy truck for the last 12 years and still haven't managed to get over 5000 miles on it yet. If I'm ever stopped I think it would be obvious to the officer that I don't use it as a daily driver. However my area is somewhat country-ish. Not a lot of traffic like cinci. or columbus so I doubt that I'll get pulled over. Darren

If you have a good spark when the coil is hot the rag isn't changing anything. It could be a coincidence that when the rags cools the coil that is when the vapor lock is finished. Waiting for the coil to cool could be just enough time for the vapor lock to work itself out. The only way to know is next time this happens to take an extra spark plug with you. Disconnect one of the wires and attach the spark plug to it. Have someone turn the motor over and observe for spark. If you have spark look elswhere. Vapor lock! Darren Darren

That's what I was trying to say in post 5! I remember this coming up on another forum. These old Plymouths tend to have vapor lock problems and the carbs don't get the gas. I think one of the problems was due to the fuel pump heat shield missing. Another problem that was discovered was the use of fuel filters to close to the manifold. I'm no expert at these by any means, but if the spark is there when hot, then it has to be another problem. Darren

Hello all, I need some verification. I currently have manual steering. I bought a power steering unit with pump for my 57 special several months ago. I am missing the idler arm and center link. I was told they are different from the manual setup and need a power steering center link and idler arm from a 57century or a 57special. I may have located the power steering center link and idler arm. The catch is I think it is off a 57 super. Can anyone verify that I need the linkage from a 1957 century or special only? I suppose it is possible. I'm going to be looking into it. I just found a couple of tires that may be closer to the correct tires that it once turned. Going to mount them on the original rims soon! Darren

I remember this problem being hit on several times and I think it had to do with the carb getting too hot. fuel boiling or something to that effect. Join this group! O thank you! That info make total sense to me and some of which I did not account for. Earlier today I have already checked to see if the odometer was reading wrong with the speedo. It had read about 3 miles more than I had actually driven at a given time. So I'm very sure it has either got to be the tires or the gears in the trans as you have mentioned. I'm going to experiment with some different tire sizes on the rear end when I can get a matching set. Thanks so much for your time and ideas! Darren

I just got back from a drive with a buddy of mine in the buick. He has a tomtom gps that shows mph. I was actually showing 60mph, but only doing 46mph. Meaning a 14mph difference. That is a little more than a 3% to 4% discreptancy. Either my tires are undersized or the speedo is junk! I have to disagree with you that the diameter of a tire will not affect the cars speed. A larger tire diameter like a 29" will skoot you down the road much quicker than a tire with a 25" diameter. The engine will have to rev much faster to spin a smaller tire. Darren

Hello All, I have a 57 Buick Special that I'm trying to figure out what the modern tire size should be. The speedometer has never showed the actual speed since I bought the car. The speedo shows 65mph when I think I'm doing 55mph. I suspect that my tire size is incorrect, but I'm not sure. I don't have an original tire to compare them to, but the service manual states that it should have 7.10-15 or the optional 7.60-15. I assume the 7.60 is larger and would give me better gas milage, but not sure if it would throw off my speedo. Currently it has P235/70 R15 on it. I too just joined and purchased a 57 special. I haven't been a member for long and can teel you your at the right place. If you haven't joined the BCA it is a must on your to do list.
