1930 Packard 733 320ci SI8 engine-rough-FREE(Tx)

no takers yet and need it gone by end of May. There will be parts that can be salvaged when it is opened up. I really dont want to scrap it. Packard parts are too good for that. All internals were machined and new bearings, pistons etc were fitted before fire. Must be of use to somebody for spares? -

I have a 1930 Packard 733 (straight 8) engine, clutch and pressure plate which has been previously fully restored (as I understand it) but then involved in a serious building fire which has damaged the alloy crankcase badly and other parts of the engine. The head is cracked, there are no bolt on parts on the engine. Clutch and pressure plate are attached. Engine is rough but too good to scrap. There will be some parts that can be salvaged. It is in Bonham Texas and is available for pickup. Maybe a very small donation to the guy who would load it would be appreciated, but that's your call. If you can use it its there. I will post pics as soon as I can

somebody must have something to sell?

Excellent Allen. I will certainly give you a call in next day or so. Thank you. Alan

thanks for comments Linus. It is a real tragedy when these vintage cars are just wasted when there are people out there hunting and chasing to restore them. I could certainly guide anybody with parts id and the owner in La Honda knows which year each is, although he is clearly not a car guy and sees them as a hindrance to get rid of quickly. There are plenty of 20" disc wheels which would be very handy I didn't actually spell it out previously but I would be in a position to give somebody the $300 (or whatever) to buy the '30 (and maybe a few other bits I need) and then to buy back the parts I need for myself. Alan

ok, I followed up lead and the news is not entirely great. The guy has 4 Packard parts cars '28, '29 and '30 @ $300 ea, with some decent body and mechanical parts on them. Much to good to crunch. If they are not moved in a week they will end up as scrap, which kills me I can tell you The cars are in La Honda Ca, which is right in the middle of SF and Santa Cruz (only about 45 miles from each city). Surely somebody can grab them and use them before they are gone forever? Unfortunately, there is no way I get there myself to grab them directly. But I do need several '30 parts-so here is a win/win proposition for somebody who is up to it. If you can pick up the car/s, I will buy the parts I need off you for essentially a lot more than you will have paid-ie. you make a very decent cash profit which is fine by me and I get the parts I need. Please do not think there is any deceptive motive in any way involved. I am just a car guy trying to put together a '30 Packard, thats it. Please consider. If there is any specific interest in what I suggest, please pm me and we can communicate further by what ever means you like Alan

Hello, I am looking for the following parts, although there are other 733 series parts that would be considered too: hoodfront fenders/guards (maybe rear too)grill shellcomplete front and rear ends (brakes, suspension, axles, springs, hangers)headlight bucketsdisc or wire wheels (maybe)Any condition body panels can be considered from mint to patterns only as I have the facility to restore/rebuild or remake body parts-so just let me know what you have Thanks very much Alan

I am in Bunbury, Western Australia, Australia, but would get engine shipped to CA via EnginesDirect-a very straight forward process for me and seller. I have done this before quite sucessfully. Thanks Alan

I am still looking for a '48-'53 327/356 (maybe 288) engine and manual o/d trans. Prefer running condition. Will consider core engine or rebuilt condition based on price. Let me know what you have with prices Alan

good thinking Packard42. Sounds like an easy safe way to check clearances
-
Thanks Steve Head has already been milled 40 thou-on an engine I am considering to buy. Head was torqued down wrog and bowed so was milled. Rest of engine was excellent and stock so was not touched
-
Is it ok to mill such a head 40 thou with respect to valve clearance and compression ratio increase? Thanks Alan

ALK, please check your emails Alan
