  1. Thanks Gary: As I had mentioned before my 37 still does the same thing. Driving home from a friends place after dark, a motorcyclist stopped me to say that I had no tail or trunk lights. All Dark! I just moved the Light switch a touch and all was lit up again. Then I had no drivers side fender light. After doing all the usual; checking bulb, voltage, ground etc. It turned out that the connection bayonet plug had slipped out of the connection up under the dash.
  2. It sounds like it may be a "winter front" that only was to attach temporarily. My friend got one with his 1924-45. It is standing up between the bumper and the front tubular cross member. Notice it has the Buick shape.
  3. Rod: That is Brewster Green as what was original color to the car. Yes the color is deceptive unless you get it in the correct light. Leif's car in the color Hugh and I are going for. An earlier photo in brighter sunlight.
  4. Well, I finally got around to rubbing out the paint on the hood to do some striping. I was able to paint on the last semi dry day of early summer . Since then it has either been raining, over 90 degrees or 90 %+ humidity or both. Since my paint booth was the great out doors I had some dust and blushing to sand and rub out.
  5. Yep. That is what I told him that I found when taking mine apart. Of the 4 latch units one spring was pretty rusty so the thought of giving a shot of oil in that hole is reasonable.
  6. Scully: Thank you so much for checking. I was out of town and I did not realize that you responded. From the looks of what you have shown the top may be from something earlier possibly 1916-1920 vintage. Something like this configuration. The other top is probably a roadster top from the late 1920s early 30s. Thank you again for your efforts.
  7. Hood Hinge Bracket When I first got my car the only thing holding the rear hood hinge was a piece of sheet metal with 2 holes. I made a better piece out of aluminum. I had no idea at the time what it was to look like. Then I got my repro parts book from "BOB's" and saw what part # 41095 Hood Hinge Bracket was to look like. Since I had to spend such an inordinate amount of time searching for the Radiator Brace Rod I misplaced (thanks to Hugh who found it) and these other parts on the cowl end. I thought I would try to make something closer to the original. Luckily I have the same part on my Master to copy. I laid out a piece of 5/8" thick steel from measurements on the Master part. Hack sawed out the rough tapered sides. Drilled (2) 5/16" holes adjacent to each other for the slot to be filed out later. Drilled the 17/64" hinge rod hole as a centering arbor then using that drill in a drill chuck in the tailstock of my lathe. Then, carefully chucking it in a 4 jaw chuck, reversing one jaw and using a piece brass filler for one end to be able to center it. I had to take 1/16" deep cuts and a light feed to avoid kicking out the large end. Once the stepped end was to size with a .460 diameter concentric to the 17/64" hole I removed the piece. I installed my 3 jaw chuck to center to the .460 diameter and faced off the rear surface to size. Final operation using a bench grinder, Dremel disk sander and files to finish to my layout marks. At the left is the temporary aluminum one I made in 2011. On the right the one that looks like part #40195. NOTE* Part book calls out “specify color”. So this will be painted.Brewster Green!
  8. Tom: My South Bend Heavy 10 will be the last thing to go before my trip to the hereafter. Doing my rocker shaft rebuild. Making new bushings.
  9. My son is needing a tail light lens for his beater 95 wagon. He has tried all the regional junk yards and nothing has shown up. Passenger side upper.
  10. Yes. I was wondering when things would balance out. The cars stance looks perfect now. My 37-41 has the original springs and they have not been removed. I have my problem on the rear springs. I removed the rear axle to replace the clutch and rebuild the transmission in 1988. Then when I got back to the car around 2005 I had the springs sent out to be re-arched by a local spring works "Gaumer Enterprises" here in Chambersburg. From 2006-2009 I dealt with health issues and it was not until 2011 that I was able to work on the car seriously. Getting things re-assembled and the weight of the car back on the springs they are now showing some sag The rear is lower. The car should be of a level attitude with a normal load of passengers. I do not have a good side view of the car when I bought it in 1987. only the "Auto Trader " ad photo prior to my purchase to compare.
  11. To me the most important features are the configuration of the mechanism. The bows would need to be replaced anyway and can be adapted. Any dimensions close to these?
  12. Scully: Here is what I am looking for if any of these dimensions or configuration match on the top sockets. I copied your photo and tried to enlarge but it is too pixeled to see any detail.
  13. If I could have him download it, my son took video of the auction staff trying to start the truck. Spitting much gas from the carb. There was apparently an electric pump in line. Mel's truck was the last lot on Thursday. When they came to get the vehicle they had to drain the many gallons of water collected in the plastic. The bed was like a portable swimming pool. It was quite a sight.
  14. 180 mile round trip in our 1937 Special to the Rockville MD fall car show. Great variety of cars and all the Marques are clustered. We had 10 Buicks in our group.
  15. Dave, here are a few I took. The 1929-50 you mentioned, The 1931-95. One of the cars I would love to come home with. 1909 model 10 in car corral which to me had many issues for the price. 1911 model 14 in the show. 1909 model G in the show.
  16. Simnut.: The Gabrielle Snubbers were accessories. As such the car drives fine without them. Bouncing around on 1920s roads they were a definite plus! I would put these on the back burner and take care of getting things driveing.
  17. Not mine. My computer will not let me copy the link. It came up on the 1925 search that ebay presents me with every day. "You have 13 new choices for 1925 Buick", none of which in many cases have nothing to do with 1925 Buicks. I opened it up and the descriptor is for a 1924 "Sports Touring" while others call it a 1925 Standard. Obviously from the photos it is a late teens cage valve Buick. Seems like they did a little research and used the model with one of the lowest production numbers for rareness appeal!
  18. Yes Carl I remember that Perry Michigan address. I believe the ad was in the old Torque Tube newsletter.
  19. On our way home from Brookfield, WI in July of 2017. Somewhere in Indiana. Notice recently broken Mobilgas Special pump light glass. It was a shame.
  20. WOW Hugh! Great minds think alike! Better get back out to the garage and get some work done for your arrival.
  21. Kyle : The Models 54 and 55 came only in the deep maroon. I love the color The factory ad posted above is how they came. Lots of special nickeled hardware. The windshield stanchions had bosses for the wind wing attachment. Note covered visor. Special steering wheel with walnut rim and spokes. Of course the Spanish grain leather upholstery and dash. Photos of the car I went to buy. The ignition switch was incorrect at the time. Paul Rose's Totally Original Unrestored 1923-54. (Photo taken at 2011 Hershey.) That is except what was needed to have it running and driving reliably.
  22. Kyle: The 1922, 124" WB had 6 different bodies that could have been mounted on them. As said earlier this car was for sale on craigslist and also on the forum I believe. If I look back the previous owner may have contacted me because I had been interested. Friends told me to stay away because it was a compilation of pieces and parts. I had known of 2, 1922-54s and 5, 1923-54s. I have also offered on 3, 1923-55 Sport Touring cars. So I have some information /photos if needed. Recent 1923-54 for sale. I went to buy this one in 2011 as a running /driving car. When we went to pick it up it was neither.
  23. I would have to go back in my correspondence from when I first bought my 1937 Special in 1987. The moldings were being replicated in aluminum. I bought a set then and was waiting until I was able to get the boards recovered. Still not done! The passenger side was a bit mangled and they have sheet metal screws holding them on.
