  1. i'm curious to see what this car might bring. I don't really want to sell it, but the family car's transmission just went, and there's a few other bills that could go and make life much easier. i was just wondering if anybody knew what this car may bring 1941 Pontiac Torpedo Silverstreak Flathead 8, 26253 miles. Complete car. Needs a battery, breaks, and just gone through, and a paint job. http://forums.aaca.org/f190/my-first-restoration-project-312495.html
  2. i feel ya. i'm un-experienced and just making my list. i hope my list is complete. man if only someone lived in northwestern lower michigan and would stop by... lol
  3. in it now? mystery fluid from the 80's, possibly earlier.
  4. it does have a SMELL. i like it. the fiance hates it thinks it needs cleaned. she claims "it needs to be ripped out and replaced, the car totally redone, and seat belts installed before she rid es in it." i tell her i guess i have a way to get a bunch of free time. the most i'll do to that interior is vacuum it, and maybe have it cleaned gently.
  5. Nice cars Richard. I had a 1988 735i at one point. But it was an unfortunate victim of my step-dad's F-150 parking brake failure - twice. totally screwed up the rear passenger quarter panel. i had to sell it cause my "parking spots" on his and my mom's 10 acre parcel were becoming no longer available. i would at some point like to get another BMW, maybe a 01-03 7 series. I've also been thinking, a '49 pontiac streamliner coupe, would make a pretty nice driver upgraded everything. I guess i have too many hopes, and dreams. not enough money to go with them. i need to get a better payin
  6. Thanks Luv2Wrench, my first goal is road worthy, then i will decide from there. yes i eventually want a "beautiful" old car, but this was the first car i bought 11 years ago, and i don't wanna ruin it, so i don't know... part of me wants to fix it, and sell it, and get more projects, part wants to keep it forever.
  7. My car - 1941 Pontiac Torpedo 8cyl 4dr Silver Streak (Either custom torpedo, or torpedo deluxe haven't quite pinned that down, leaning towards deluxe) Has quarter windows front and back. 26,539 miles, interior just needs cleaning, plus there's a little bit of rust showing on the dash board, but not much. I'm hoping for some guidance/advice, as this is my first project. I had the car started a few years ago a couple times, so it'll start. my first plan is to change the fluids, and do a brake overhaul. I found a kit on kanter.com for $198 with shoes and wheel cyl kits for all four tires, a
  8. 41 pontiac 80/90 in the rear diff? what in the manual trans? fill up to the bottom of the filler holes?
  9. What's your "sell price"? My buddy just this last weekend hauled my 41 Pontiac Torpedo upstate Michigan for me from my parents garage to mine, approx 3.5 hour one way. He had asked me what my sell price was in case he gets offers at the rest stops. Mind you, this is the first car i ever bought 11 years ago when i was 16, and it's not really for sale. But if someone offered me enough, I might have to consider it. I told him 20K, it's un-restored with some rough spots, so i knew it wouldn't fetch that...but if it did, i could probably sadly let it go, as 20k would free up some major bills,
  10. This "non-requirement", does it only apply to historic plates, or all plates. sorry for the questions, but i am uniformed currently.
  11. If i go with regular plates, do i have to add seat belts? Do plates from that year allow more than special events?
  12. I have a 41 pontiac. when it's time to license the car, what are the benefits/downfalls to the historical plates? plates from 1941? or is it better to just plate it regularly?
  13. This is my '41 Pontiac Torpedo Silver Streak with a Flathead straight eight. 26259.3 miles on it currently. This will be a work in progress as soon as i can start on it.
  14. I just joined this forum. Today, my friend just delivered my 1941 Torpedo Silver Streak with a Flat head 8 4 door to my house from my parents. I bought the car about 11 years ago when I was 16 (how many can say they bought a pre-war as their first car, and still have it?). I've tinkered with it some here and there, had it running a couple times, but was "too young" to really delve into the car. Now I'm a little older, ready to start looking into getting the car road worthy first, then someday maybe fully restoring it, which won't take much more than a paint job and chrome work. The car
