  1. Looking for an early 30's roadster in any condition rough is preferred around $1-$3000. Thanks Todd lakesidemetal@aol.com 218-349-9547
  2. That is exactly it, Thanks Layden. Oh the beauty of the internet and this forum.
  3. That's the first answer everybody who sees it gives but then changes their mind, I have never seen a wood spoked steering wheel.
  4. Tired of looking at this on my bench, it came in a box with other parts for my 29 Durant. This sheave looking thing has a tapered and keyed bore. It seperates in two with wood sandwiched between fastened by 8 machine screws, approx. 3 inches ib dia. any ideas???? Thanks:confused:
  5. I got ther around noon on Thursday and 12 hours on Friday for a full 18 hours. The key is to be organized, I was like a pingpong ball boucing to whatever caught my eye. So in 18 hours of a very fast paced walk I did not see everything. I did spend all my money and could not get anymore parts in the suv (it was loaded like a gypsy wagon). Accomodations: I found a nice spot just out of town to camp out by a river $0. The advice on suntan lotion was the best, I never saw so many people sunburnt. As far as prewar parts-I was somewhat dissapointed. But I still could have spent $5k more if I had the space. Next time just might bring the truck and trailer. If I would have had the trailer I would have gone back with a model T or 73 MG Midget for $800. Overall a great experience, sore legs and all plus most of the prices were really reasonable. To newcomers next year- disregard the parking scams all over town (closest to the show $10) There is free parking very, very close to the show.
  6. I have never been there either, but have been told by a few that it is the premier event for pre-war stuff, hmmm. I checked on camping $80.00 (really) too bad big event = big prices.
  7. Thanks for the link. I checked on camping $80 (really) are they trying to keep people away, that's just not right, should be able to get a decent motel room for that. Never fails, big event= price gauging.
  8. Never been there, If I arrive Fri. evening is it possible to find a place to camp or???. What is the best day to be there if I am on a part finding mission? Thanks
  9. I guess I did not have the zigzag tool so I took a big screwdriver about 18 inches long with a square shaft and with a crescent wrench opened and closed it with ease. Thanks
  10. Alright I think I may have one of those tools, Thanks
  11. Anybody know of a trick or can a tire be installed without a rim spreader, I tried messing wih the swivel device but no luck. I figured the old farmers had a method of doing these without the proper tool.
  12. Anybody replaced the rubber balls in the spicer engine/transmission joint with something other than the originals? I also did a test spin on my Durant with a 6 cylinder to see how the starter would operate. I first took it apart the starter and cleaned it up nice but noitced the magnets did not have the usual pull on the armature which slid out way to easy. Well I reassembled the starter and without spark plugs in it the motor turns over very very slowly with a direct connection from my 12 volt Dodge ram,any ideas it should spin over alot faster than that, I can turn it over easy by hand?
  13. This car is a regular on the street. I will pick the owners brain and get the bottom of this, something is just not right.
  14. I was up on the Northshore of Lake Superior today and came across a 31 Model A coupe for sale. The sign in the window said 25k invested never restored, repainted, upholstered and mechanical work has been done. He was asking $17,500. The paint was old and not very nice. the chrome was nice, there was alot of overspray from painting the whitewalls. I don't know but seems a bit steep to me?
  15. That's what I have been looking for, actual test results. Thanks for posting Luv2Wrench.
  16. Is there a way to unspring a spring so I can make a bumper bracket out of an old one I have , it is the perfect width and thickness?
  17. I was just on the Eastwood site, debating two 16 oz. aerosol cans or a gallon for the frame???hmm. Reading the reviews it sure looks like good stuff. This cleaning would have been near impossible without pulling the body off,and it's still very tough.
  18. I was debating a frame on restoration on my 29 Durant but decided against it. Took me two hours to get the body off and propped up so I can park the frame under the body thereby saving some space. After the first stage of scraping with a putty knife I had a huge pile of grime 10 pounds worth (I weighed it). Next step I will roll it ouside and wire wheel it with a 4 inch angle grinder, then??? rust encapsulating primer???
  19. My son is starting out as a young filmaker and I have been trying to talk him into starting up a reality series dealing with the oldies. We could attend swap meets, visit backyard junkyards, barns, see whats going on with people throughout the nation on their projects,Visit Jay's garage, check out famous and not so famous collections, tech tips, bit of history...One would never run out of material. I would not waste much time with the personal stuff just push as much car info as you could get into each episode, not the usual 3 topics Title - something like "Vintage American"or???. We would have to make several episodes, iron out the bugs and peddle it hoping it would be picked up by the History Channel or..
  20. How about preperation, can a lightly rusted body be wire wheeled then coated with rust encapsulating primer before final paint? Also what would be an approximate cost for the final paint job materials for say a Model A coupe size car?
  21. I have been in the process of cleaning mine. I added a bunch of 1/2 inch sharp driveway rock, wood bleach (it has acid in it), and small amount of water. Shake well, let stand, and repeat untill clear water remains. Sure works great but you get sore arms from all the swishing and shaking
  22. Yes the posts are the same.
  23. Finally got the 29 Durant coupe in the garage. Interesting doing research and assembly of these. The Durant came with boxes of parts and here are some that I have no idea where they go, anybody have any ideas??? I tried posting the photo on the Durant site but no luck .???
  24. Found these in the woods the other day, anybody know what they were from???
  25. Just pretend you are driving a motorcycle, you don't want to be in a collision on one of these.
