  1. I'm listing it at $7250. I originally listed it for $11999 and you all thought it was worth between 10000 and 11000. Seems like if it doesn't sell here you will say it's worth 4 to 5k. The American public is just plain cheap or broke, or both.
  2. Well... It goes live on eBay Saturday. Yes, I can polish the firewall, etc. And maybe I will. But that can't hide the wrong colour spray paint and other cosmetic things that a smart buyer will notice. On this forum, you were all saying a few months ago that 12 k was a stretch but between 10 and 11k seemed about right. Now, it's 7k to 8k. What happened? I remind you this one once "sold" on eBay for $10,875 a few months ago.
  3. There was a time not too long ago, park a Model A at the church fair or at a cider fest and the response was everyone loves a Model A. Times have changed! If anyone wants to make an offer, let me know. Younger folks all want new. It might be junk, but at least it's new. Tear down a beautiful farmhouse and barn and build McMansions, and watch them come in droves. I guess I am old enough to remember when these were appreciated and you were lucky to get one for $20,000. How low over time will these go? In 50 years, will a restored top notch roadster sit on the market forever at $3k?
  4. I can remove it, but it seems like it is located in the wrong place. This car came with the pebble grate when I bought it. Someone told me that was an after market addition, and so I removed it and sold it on eBay. I never liked how they look, anyways.
  5. Where should it be? I didn't install it. Don't folks just buy driver's anymore, something to have fun with, the location of the step plate is inconsequential? Seems like this hobby consists of high end buyers who want perfection, and pay for it. Not a problem there. I'd expect the same. Or, low end buyer's who expect perfection, and don't want to spend anything. You know already what I think of that! Same as trying to sell a low end house. Been there, done that! Buyers don't want to spend anything, but they want absolute perfection. Realtor told me that's because they are so tapped out already that they cannot afford any problem whatsoever. This country is way too middle class-lower middle class. Myself included.
  6. Depends on your definition of long. When you are relying on storage on someone else's property and have no good property of your own in sight, it can be a very long time.
  7. THIS part of the forum is appropriate for discussion of what's wrong and right with a car. The Classifieds ads are not. When I bought it this was supposed to be a reasonably priced driver, something to drive and enjoy. Bought at a reasonable price then, so reasonable at the time that could easily sell and get out of it what one has in it. Especially since that some time between purchased in 2014 and now, but likely closer to 2014, club members stated there was an upsurge in interest and values for the Model A. Most obviously, this was nothing more than fleeting.
  8. That's right! America is not the prosperous nation you think it is. My wages don't even keep up with inflation.
  9. Yes, some pi$$ed me off when I listed it before, which is why the whole thread got deleted. I'll list it for sale elsewhere, but I'm trying to sell a car and I get replies to my ad from folks who have no interest in it pointing out what's wrong or perceived to be wrong. How does that help me sell a car? I don't need constructive criticism in a for sale ad. Maybe the classifieds section of this forum needs to be like other forums, where you post an ad and the only thing allowed thereafter is Sold or I'll take it! Will consider trades. Pre 1898 firearms or a Registered Magnum.
  10. Facebook scares me beyond belief. I don't wish to sound paranoid, but there is this huge mining of information out there. You cannot even go into a restaurant anymore without a camera watching you shove your face...
  11. No, no family involvement. I just drove an elderly gentleman, the original owner of a Model A Ford 30 years ago around in his car sometimes, and loved doing so, thinking I'd never own one, as they bought big bucks then. For other reasons you describe, I would like to keep this car. I definitely live in the wrong neighborhood, though, and that's the reason for selling it. I did just take it for a spin, and a neighbor did yell "I love that car!".
  12. I already had. No interest there...
  13. I've vacuumed it out previously. 1970's or so interior, not original, not bad but not pristine. Yes, I could wash and wax, but it does have spots of rust, it has touch up from a darker can of spray paint, it has chipped paint. It was like that when I bought it, in 2014 that did not seem to be a huge concern. The issue was obtaining a Fordor at a reasonable price then. Things have obviously changed. I am just sprucing up that which requires attention. That is, painting, etc. No misrepresentation here. I did do an ebay search. That offered less than mone is purely junk, plain and simple.
  14. Okay, I lied, slightly. Opening bid will be $7250, going live 10:00 PDT Saturday. This covers some of the extraneous fees. I am in over my head. I just don't have the resources y'all do. I don't. Getting this to Hershey would be a major ordeal, finding a place to keep this already is. Let's hope it cracks 9k at least. It's nice to have a truck and trailer, a nice property to keep several cars at, the financial wherewithal to fix anything and everything the best possible way. That's just out of my league right now. Believe me, I'd love to collect Packards and early brass stuff--but I can't.
  15. Now at $9299 on Craigslist...if anyone is interested.
  16. You're on! I think I will list it on Ebay on Saturday with an opening bid of $7000 and see where it goes! I have had this one for over 5 years now. I have over 9K into it. I bought it for $8250. I was hoping to at least break even. You couldn't touch these for $8250 in 2014, so I thought it was a good price.
  17. It sure seems like it! I started to do Facebook, and was alarmed at the folks it identified for me to contact. I don't like that. And so my Facebook experience lasted all of about a minute.
  18. Also how do I get this to Hershey?
  19. How do you even see what others like this sell for? Craigslist only has my local market with limited similar cars for sale. Hemmings is all I know, and that's more national and high end. I never represented this car as a show car. It's a fun driver.
  20. Do buyers really expect to get a car like this for 4k???? Doors don't sag, redone engine, fairly solid car. My wife has backed off on getting rid of it immediately, but it still has to go. It can't sit outside in the winter.
  21. Well, I am at a low price and still no takers. I realize it needs repainting and that all costs. But buyers are unrealistic. Sink 5 to 8 k into it and have a 20k car. Sad to say, but what an awful hobby.
  22. Edit: My car has sold! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT! 👍 I have to say, I am rather disappointed...and no surprise why younger folks just aren't that interested in the hobby, and it's hurting! Here I have a 1930 Model A Ford for sale, have dropped the price now to $9500 on Craigslist, a few inquiries, but still very little interest. I'm told $11k is a fair price for this car. Apparently not. The car runs fine, it's solid, does need repainting and minor body work, has a rebuilt engine. Inquires are basically, did Schwalm do the engine? I have since learned that that's a $6000 endeavour! What's wrong with folks? You actually think I would sink $6k into this car and still ask only $9500? No surprise why there's no young blood in this hobby, and it is full of folks who have unrealistic expectations (want perfect cars, slow to open up their wallets).
  23. I also should mention my lack of disposable income is also due to my need, as well as others now, to save for our retirement. In the past, this was not the case. You could even be irresponsible, and as long as you showed up for work and were conscientious about it, your retirement was provided for you once you made it to retirement age. I do save the maximum I can for retirement, because I want out of the rat race at an early age. Leaves me without the fun money I would like. Most in this country now lack any discretionary income plus have no retirement savings. Welcome to a third world country.
  24. Without a doubt you are correct. I have an advanced technical degree, but my wages don't reflect that. My wages have been little more than flat over the last 25 years. The entry level position pays 5k more than when I started in it, less than a 20% increase over a quarter century. Conversely, old timers I worked with when I started experienced a tenfold increase in wages over 30 years. Real estate has gone nowhere. I still live in an entry level house as there has been no real estate appreciation for years. Anything with lots of land requires you pay more than a developer. So, I can only afford lower end vehicles and storage is a MAJOR issue. It could be far worse, however. At least my college loan debt was reasonable. Young kids today will experience wages that don't even keep up with inflation but yet have massive student loan payments. I would have bought this car long ago if I experienced substantial wage increases and real estate appreciation, allowing me the money to better pursue this hobby and afford a trophy property to properly store my unique finds. For these very reasons, I'm finding it difficult to sell my Model A Ford.
